Yoan Gouffran - allergic to grass

Of all the things for a footballer to be allergic to, grass would have to be one of the most unfortunate. And that's exactly what Bordeaux's Yoan Gouffran suffers from, according to a report in Le Parisien.

Such an allergy is, of course, a major impediment to a professional football who will play 36 of les Girondins’ 38 games this season on the surface, and as a result, the 24-year-old former Caen star has been forced to see an allergist in order to alleviate or at least control the problem.

“For a footballer, it's embarrassing,” [bordeaux manager] Jean Tigana told the capital-based publication. “He would have [been better to] play on synthetic pitches in Nancy or Lorient.”

But, he doesn't. Let's look at the bright side, though -- you never have to worry about Gouffran taking a dive. Such an offense would be more an act of masochism than cheating.

Couldn't find a thread for Scottish football, but Colin Calderwood has taken over at Hibs.

Should be a decent appointment for them.

Forest fans might disagree with you.

Took him three years to get out of League One with large resources and was sacked with them bottom of the Championship. He might be more successful north of the border a la Levein but there's little from his record in England to make me think so.

Gayern only managed to get a dull 0-0 at Hamburg and are still lingering in the middle of the Bundesliga table.

Schalke, too, are finding life difficult with all these new, million-heavy signings.

After the recent win in the Europa League, they scraped another point away at Frankfurt.

Bremen are marching up the table following a 4-1 away win at Moenchengladbach.

Freiburg have moved up to 7th after a home win over Kaiserslautern.

The two top teams, Dortmund (Hoffenheim at home) and Mainz (Leverkusen away) play today.

Feyenoord had three 18 year olds, three 19 year olds, and two 20 year olds on the pitch.

That's 8 out of the starting 11 being under 21.

Bizarre result for Feyenoord. They've started slowly but that result was something else.

They only conceded 31 goals all season last season but have already shipped 24 in 10 this season.

Dortmund got a point at home to Hoffenheim by drawing 1-1, despite going 1-0 down, then Sahin scoring a penalty but having to re-take it and missing.

Mainz got back to winning ways after last weeks' set-back, by grabbing a good 3 points away at Leverkusen. They're now 2 points clear of Dortmund at the top and 8 points clear of 3rd placed Hannover. Superb.

Struggling Stuttgart managed to beat St Pauli at home 2-0 as well, lifting them out the relegation zone and seeing Pauli lie 10th after 9 games.

All you need is a miracle, all you need is a man made of steel, or rather named Steele, in this case Michael Stahl from German Second Divison club TuS Koblenz.

His cracking goal from the middle of the park (a distance of 61 metres) in the cup game against Hertha Berlin was certainly Gudjonsson-like:

Not sure if he meant that. Reminds me of that Jason Cundy goal at Ipswich

Sounds familiar...
