European Football 2010-2011

Can you believe it? With the help of some unknown seaside superpowers, minnows Stade Brest are still clinging on to the top spot in Ligue 1.

Stade Rennes and/or Marseille could overtake them with one game in hand, though.

Meanwhile, AC Arles-Avignon (with that particular Breton amongst their ranks) continue to linger in last place - worst league record for total points in Europe thus far?

Didn't Montpellier do something like that last season?

Yeah, but I wouldn't classify them as a typical "small" and rather unknown team like Brest is.

Montpellier HSC used to be one of the better and more renowned sides in French football (and only returned to old days in recent seasons).

Wasn't really sure whether or not it was the same type of thing. that'll teach me for knowing nothing about French football lol

Barcelona 8-0 up at the moment.

Just the six hat-tricks for Messi this calendar year. And yet he won't win World Player of the Year. What a joke.

I wonder if the numpties who said they'd prefer rooney in their side still think the same now.

I'd rather have had Rooney in my side in January and February.

And the Prem isn't?

You only have to look at the top of both tables and you'll notice how much more open the Prem is in comparison.

I like La liga but it's easily the most predicable and monopolised league out of the lot.

Just two teams challenging for the title, unlike the two in the premiership (when was the last time someone other than chelsea or man utd won the title) or just the one in serie a (inter have won something like 6-7 successive titles - real open league that is)

The prem is predictable in terms of the big four but even that has all changed with the demise of Liverpool and the rise of Tottenham and Man City.

Granted Chelsea and Man Utd usually come out on top but it usually goes down to the last ten games of the season before they start to pull away from the others.

Wheras there is already a seven point gap between 2nd and 3rd in La Liga. As for Serie A, Inter have only really dominated in the last few seasons and when they have, there's always been competition from Juventus, AC, Lazio and in the past Roma. Having a quick glance at Serie A current standings it looks wide open. :dunno:

And the Prem isn't? West Ham and Wigan would do any better against Barca and Real?

Probably not, but surely that backs up my point?

Barca and Real are untouchable just about, no teams in La Liga will get close to them in this year and in years to come.

No holding back from Jonathon Stevenson on BBC's live text.

Red card: That's disgusting, I hope they throw the book at him. Lionel Messi races forward again and two Real players do nothing more than try to break his legs - Ramos catches him, then in the ensuing melee Ramos shoves Carles Puyol to the floor. He's sent off, the idiot. Pathetic end from Real Madrid. What a shame.
