Thracian Posted 29 August 2010 Posted 29 August 2010 correct, a Leicester team with DJ in the side will be pushing for the title, he'd make that big a difference. It would but the damage has been done. It started long ago and concerned an injury. The row took off because, allegedly, DJ wanted the problem seeing to. Whatever the rights and wrongs of it (and personally I think he'd every right to want to see his ailment properly cleared up) DJ ended up sidelined and City fans almost universally backed the club. I'm not sure DJ has ever wanted to play for us since because there's no doubt in my mind that if he wanted to play and wanted to score goals for us he was definitely good enough to do both. In fact I'd say he's by far the club's most gifted striker and certainly the quickest and yet the chance that sticks in my mind is the one he lofted over the bar at Burnley when it seemed almost impossible not to score or at least get a shot on target. Did he really want to score, I wondered! Yes or no basically there's an impasse and there seems no earthly sense in us keeping him here in that situation. Yes, I think it's a shame and pretty typical of the way we constantly fail to cope with people who are individuals instead of line-towers (the club being no different in its attitude to non-compliant fans who, quite rightly, want to stand and sing whatever the blinkered dictators of the Health and Safety brigade and insurance companies think and say). But there it is, and our job now is to replace DJ which won't be easy because he's one of the very few players in our club who's good enough for the Prermiership. He'll not be much lamented but once again we'll have lost a genuinely talented player.
Jon the Hat Posted 29 August 2010 Posted 29 August 2010 I take your points Thracian, but I seriously doubt he will bag more than 10 in the Premiership unless he somehow gets a run out at Chelsea...

Just days before the close of August's transfer window, the Blackpool target was missing from the struggling Foxes' 2-1 home defeat by Reading. But Sousa said: "DJ is our player. He belongs to Leicester. And we make the best decisions for the club. "Blackpool keep pushing but until now we don't decide yet." Sousa did admit, however, that he is not the sort of manager to keep hold of an unhappy player. "DJ does not have his mind in our club," Sousa told BBC Radio Leicester. "Then it's a good decision to stay out [of the side]. "He started the season scoring goals and was very happy. And he's an important player. "But when his head is not with us, then it is better to leave him out as he can give us nothing." If Campbell does return to Blackpool, where he spent a successful on-loan spell last season scoring 11 times to help the Tangerines' to Premier League promotion, he may not be the only deadline departure from the Walkers Stadium. Sousa, whose Foxes side are yet to win a league game in four attempts under his command, admits that several of his players are targets for other clubs as he prepares an overhaul of last term's beaten play-off semi-finalists. "Everyone is important, but not indispensible. It depends on the minds of our players." © BBC

Guest Bilo Posted 30 August 2010 Posted 30 August 2010 Sounds more like a manager who wants to keep a player fighting a losing battle and knowing it. If he's disrupting morale in the dressing room, he needs to go for whatever price Blackpool offer.

He just doesn't want to be here - pre-season and first few games he will have put the effort in, in an attempt to get noticed and sold.
Guest Posted 30 August 2010 Posted 30 August 2010 Really couldn't care less - he has proved NOTHING at the City. I hope we sell hium and move on.

Interesting. Should be an exciting transfer deadline day. If he does go, hopefully it will be to a stupidly high bid by them.
sdb Posted 30 August 2010 Posted 30 August 2010 tomorrow's gonna be mental - depending on who goes in/out, we could end up with one of the strongest or weakest squads in the league.
MikeyT Posted 30 August 2010 Posted 30 August 2010 tomorrow's gonna be mental - depending on who goes in/out, we could end up with one of the strongest or weakest squads in the league. Never a dull moment being a Leicester supporter

s11nny Posted 30 August 2010 Posted 30 August 2010 Imagine Fryatt, DJ, Dyer, Hobbs, Berner all going................. i dont think fryatt or DJ leaving would have much of an effect to be honest, they can easily be replaced. however I would be worried about hobbs, dyer, berner and especially KING!

Why are people concerned so much about Berner going. Looks a pale shadow of his former self.
Jon25747 Posted 30 August 2010 Posted 30 August 2010 Why are people concerned so much about Berner going. Looks a pale shadow of his former self. Hes solid but he looks sooooo slow, if he goes ill be upset but only because he has been a hero for the last 2 years
J.Lisemore Posted 30 August 2010 Posted 30 August 2010 If he goes for the 1.5 Million being stated then thats a good deal for us IMO.
Jon25747 Posted 30 August 2010 Posted 30 August 2010 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11728_6349134,00.html Does this mean anything? Skysports.com understands that Blackpool have contacted Portsmouth about a possible move for David Nugent. Nugent has been heavily linked with a move away from Fratton Park despite Steve Cotterill expressing his determination to keep the striker. The 25-year-old has struggled to make a significant impact since joining Pompey from Preston in 2007 and was loaned out to Burnleylast season. A move back to the Premier League could now be on the cards after Blackpool made an enquiry over Nugent's availability. Ian Holloway has been busy in the transfer market in recent weeks and is still actively looking for players with less than 24 hours remaining until the window shuts. However, Blackpool will face a fight to prise Nugent away from Portsmouth as Cotterill's men are currently bottom of the Championship and so short of players that they will not want to lose any of their key men.
Corky Posted 30 August 2010 Posted 30 August 2010 I don't get this at all. If Sousa thinks his head is not right then why try and keep him? If it's not right now when there's a chance he can move on it won't improve or change when the window closes.
Edmund Posted 30 August 2010 Posted 30 August 2010 Because only personal terms have been agreed and Leicester are trying to milk as much out of Blackpool as possible. Blackpool are trying to weasel a performance related deal whereas Leicester want the cash up front. Both clubs have been playing battleships all summer.
