Walshy5 Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 Did anytone notice yesterday the whole of our back 4 are loan players? Sorry about the spelling mistake in the title i cant change it now.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 Yup, was mentioned several times on RL. What I noticed even more was your typos in the thread title
Swalker Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 Yes I noticed. And I think that come christmas transfer window we should try to sign all of them, instead of bringing in new players
Spudulike Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 Yes I noticed. And I think that come christmas transfer window we should try to sign all of them, instead of bringing in new players No great urgency with Vitor as he's with us until the summer anyway. Naughton, I think, until January then will hopefully be extended. Not sure about the other two but I'd have thought the club must be looking to extend if the players want to stay (and Davies has already stated that he does).
Webbo Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 I don't think there's any chance of signing Naughton or Vitor permanently, Cunningham maybe and Davis another maybe but we'd be looking at £5million +. I'm not losing any sleep about this situation at the minute but it is a concern.
Corky Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 It's not an ideal situation at all but Sven needed to do something. We were conceding goals at an alarming rate and that has been stemmed thankfully.
Large Frank Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 Clearly it didn't take Sven long to recognise our defensive deficiencies (as any decent manager worth his salt would have done), but the encouraging thing is how quickly he has acted to form a seemingly effective defensive unit. It remains to be seen whether he has built a formation for the future, or if it is simply a temporary measure until he is able to bring in players who will do the job until january on a permanent basis. Whoever the personnel are, I think they will be moulded into a strong defensive group.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 Looking at the situation, it's like stopping a leaking tap by wrapping gaffer tape or a towel round it - buys some time to get the job done properly. But similarly you need to remember that the job still needs doing before the tape/towel gives in. We all seem to realise that, so I I'm sure Sven does too.
CupidStunt Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 I don't think there's any chance of signing Naughton or Vitor permanently, Cunningham maybe and Davis another maybe but we'd be looking at £5million +. I'm not losing any sleep about this situation at the minute but it is a concern. I wouldnt say there was NO chance of us signing Naughton, its slim, but not out of the question as for Vitor, dont know anything about his potential for the future as far as Benfica are concerned
cc_star Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 No reason why we can't sign them all if we do end up challenging for promotion instead of taking two steps forward and one back it will be a lot easier, but it would take a lot of money to get them, maybe £15m for the lot... maybe more if we keep collecting clean sheets
Edmund Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 Another clean sheet = Couldn't give a shit. Loan players, dead players, transexual players, as long as we keep the goals out I'm happy
Finchy Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 We'll keep them all until the end of the season, and that is all that matters. Who knows where we will be at the end of the season, if we stay up they have done the job and Sven has the summer to sort it out properly with new players. If we go up, i'm sure we could buy them.
Karljohn Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 Be good to keep hold of Davies but Hobbs waiting in the wings is no bad thing, also not writing off Tunch just yet. I think Villa would take 3m for Davies, the amount of kids in the Villa side at the moment must signal the end for him, he's already resigned to the fact that he would be "sat in the stands until January". He was one of the few that was happy to see the back of MON at Villa but the situation clearly hasn't improved for him.
Wymsey Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 Is Davies available for Weds match. His loan expires sometime now?
chesterfox Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 in many ways the defence has become a Sven made problem in all the best of senses because he has sorted it out, but with players who aren't ours. So firstly we have to be greatful that we are again capable of clean sheets but it seems that he has already decided that the likes of Berner,Morrison,Lamey,Neilson are not good enough. This is great management in such quick time, but nevertheless the problem exists...i have faith in his ability to sort it out, i just wonder about Morrison. I know he has had an absolute mare of a season to date but does anybody else think he is still capable of improving?#As I said we should be greatful that Sven has had the foresight to sort out he problem so quickly but would Davies, Vitor even if we could afford him and Naughton even want to come to us? Exciting times ahead that's for sure one other point re Pearson...know it's not the right place but wtf....there seem to be a lot of people who are quite negative about him but for me he will always be a Leicester hero because of the mire he got us out of and I can only wish him well
MPH Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 I don't think there's any chance of signing Naughton or Vitor permanently, Cunningham maybe and Davis another maybe but we'd be looking at £5million +. I'm not losing any sleep about this situation at the minute but it is a concern. what? He is third choice right back. There is every chance we could sign him....
The Doctor Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 Is Davies available for Weds match. His loan expires sometime now? it was a month loan - he arrived in the week before the hull game so he's got weds and possibly derby before the loan is up.

Guest ttfn Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 I think it's really sad. I know none of the players have much affection for the club, but for us to have a whole back four of loanees when last year we felt that we had a future England international playing centre back isn't great. Not saying I'd rather be losing, but you can't help but feel that what was left of the soul of this club is fast disappearing.
orangecity23 Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 I think our chances of getting Naughton permanently may well hinge on what happens with Kyle Walker at QPR. Spurs may be willing to part with one of the two, but perhaps not both.

A club where its the basic same squad each season or instant success and possibility of a promotion? All about the prem.

I understand what you're saying I'm just not sure that Curtis Davies has any less sentiment than say Richie Wellens....long gone are the days when the players came from down the road and a real allegiance to the club and city. It's a reflection of modern football....lets be honest Sven included we are en route to bigger clubs for many of the clubs' employees just as some of the lower leagues are to us.
Guest ttfn Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 That is true but what do you want? A club where its the basic same squad each season or instant success and possibility of a promotion? All about the prem. Is it? I'd love a season in the prem, but the best season we've had lately was League One.
katieakita Posted 7 November 2010 Posted 7 November 2010 IMO, Think its a bonus these loan players have settled in so quickly and unless their unattached we can't sign players till Jan unless they are on loan anyway, but times have changed regarding loyalty i stand to be corrected but the last so called player to be a born and bred City fan pissed off to WBA reserves rather than play for "his club"so for me even if they play for just a brief spell for us as long as they show passion and are half decent i'll accept that. After all Kevin Campbell didn't play that many games for us but is still well remembered. ATB Paul
