davieG Posted 17 January 2011 Posted 17 January 2011 If you were feeling a little gloomy when you woke up this morning, don't be too alarmed - today is statistically the most depressing day of the year. A combination of factors, including post-Christmas debt and sullen British weather, make today worse than any other day, say psychologists. The annual mood-killer, dubbed 'Blue Monday', tends to fall on the third Monday of January as the New Year cheer wears off and the comforting warmth of summer seems like a very distant prospect. The top three techniques which work best to lift your mood on this most miserable of days are: helping someone in need, receiving a compliment out of the blue and listening to the sound of the sea, according to a survey commissioned by charity ActionAid. Bellend Sebastian Posted 17 January 2011 Posted 17 January 2011 You're one of my favourite posters, Davie. Did you see what I did there? The mood in Chateau Bellend this morning was less than upbeat, but that was more to do with someone's irrational dislike of the fireplace
Bryn Posted 17 January 2011 Posted 17 January 2011 Ha, I actually did feel a bit mopey when I woke up this morning. Weird.
Corky Posted 17 January 2011 Posted 17 January 2011 The glorious weather outside has certainly eradicated any feelings of depression

samjohnson Posted 17 January 2011 Posted 17 January 2011 I woke up in a perfect mood... it was the events that followed which put me in "grumpy mode" - get pretty much all the way to college after waking up late to get a text to say "Lesson Cancelled"
StanSP Posted 17 January 2011 Posted 17 January 2011 Most depressing day? Bullshit. Who makes this crap up?!

Go, enjoy, the world is your oyster....or something.
Finnegan Posted 17 January 2011 Posted 17 January 2011 Most depressing day? Bullshit. Who makes this crap up?! Nobody makes it up, it's just being misinterpreted by the press. It doesn't mean you're supposed to be sadder today than any other day. It just means that, according to their research, more people than 'average' experience seasonal depresion this week. Hardly surprising.
