Jack Hobbs signs for...?

Sven knows what he's doing. Can't say im delighted about this though, but who knows, Bruma might be brilliant.

If we were to go up though, how many of our loans at the moment would stay? i think can only see Naughton staying tbh.

Theres a permanent deal lined up for Yakubu in the summer isn't there?

I'm sure plenty believe this is the right choice but I'm very disappointed. Gutted even. He's still got loads of potential IMO.

Agree, am wondering if there's a bit of a timebomb in the squad ticking if we don't win promotion this year. Come July, when Bruma, Mee, Naughton, Van Aanholt and Yakubu are back at their parent clubs, and we have a number of players back in our squad who Eriksson has made clear he doesn't rate, that doesn't feel like a great start to a pre season.

Yes. If Bruma works out I wouldn't be surprised if he's allowed to leave Chelsea.

He's shown nothing this season that suggests he can re-capture his form from last season. Even in the games he's played well in (Millwall away for instance) he's still cost us goals.

One thing that was missing from Hobbs's game even last season was toughness. And I mean a real mean streak that most central defenders need. Last season he left that side of things to Wayne Brown. Going to Scotland will do him the world of good and playing under Lennon might help him bring that side of his game to the fore. He does have it in him otherwise he wouldnt have belted Sousa. Unfortunately he reverted to type and cried about it after.

Can you imagine the talent of Hobbs combined with the attitude of Steve Walsh? If he had that in his game he really would be irreplaceable. At the minute though he looks so shaky on the ball it's best he doesnt play at this level as his confidence is diminishing with every second he stays on the pitch.

That's not true. Leeds, Man City, Swansea - all recent games where he was immense.

But then he makes a mistake one game and is dropped.

My problem is unlike players like Vassell and Mee, he's not been given the benefit of the doubt when he's made mistakes.

I'm sure marbelladave amongst others will tell me I'm talking crap and that's fine but I really believe the unsettled defence has made it difficult for the centre backs, especially the younger more inexperienced ones like Hobbs.

I'm convinced that if he had been given a few more games with Bamba and the same left back he would be close to recapturing last seasons consistency.

Likewise I'm not sure Vitor or Davies showed us consistently good performances either.

We now only have one permanent centre back. Sven is risking it all on promotion.

Sorry for continually repeating myself but I'm very disappointed.

Really?

Lets hope he finds some effort between now and the end of the season then. He's playing like he's un-droppable now and so's Vassell recently.

Oh... to be one of Sven's favoured ones

It seems you're not happy?

Perhaps you should start another thread

No, more than happy - its just seems that the fact Sven has signed them means more than their on the pitch performance to most people & to Sven himself.

What I mean is you can't argue with the results or anything, its just a shame that some people have a bad game and people are baying for their blood, but Yakubu or Vassell's form dips and the hypocrites don't say a word dunno.gif

WIll Hobbs get in Celtic's team or is he likely to be cover up there too?

I think he'll get in because they were desperate for Faye on deadline day, don't think they've got their first choices fit

Pretty sure they have zero fit centre backs, or at least very few, that's why they wanted Faye on DD.

The general feeling amongst everyone is that hobbs should stay. For whatever reason, he's been massively inconsistent this season and people can make all kinds of excuses for him (playing on the left hand side, various centre back partnerships, different style than under pearson), but all those excuses are basically the problem. The lad has bags of potential and promise but if all of that falls apart because you have to move from the left to the right, it doesn't look too good to your new manager. Lets all try and remember that our current management team are working on the here and now and hobbs hasn't exactly done himself any favours this season. The hope is that he goes to celtic, re-captures his form and returns in pre-season showing the quality we all know he possesses. The fear is that he just cant cope with the pressure of competition (like fryatt) for his place and asks to leave in the summer. Either way, it's not worth worrying about right now as we're in one of the best veins of form i've seen for a while (at this level) and if i've learnt one thing from being a city fan all these years, it's to enjoy the going when the going is good as it can disappear real damn quick.

I agree with Marbelladave's opinion on why he's not quite looked the player he was, in that its basically come down to us being a more open side where everyone needs to be comfortable on the ball, Hobbs looks like he is (or could be) a great old fashioned centre-half in the Steve Walsh mould, but our defence isn't being asked to play like that, instead being asked to play higher up the pitch, its quite likely there won't be a full back on hand to back him up. This is on top of the playing on the wrong side, playing with about 30 other people etc.. Perhaps he'd just be better a club that prefers their CBs just to get rid of the ball (like Pearson's Leicester)

Like you say he either needs to rediscover his form, if he does we can have him back so its not a problem & if he doesn't rediscover his form then its not our problem anyway as we'll just get rid.

At his age he needs to be playing and gaining experience and not sitting on the bench so the loan move is good for him & therefore good for us, I'd rather he stay though, I don't get the logic in giving experience, coaching & training to someone elses players at the expense of our own, it stinks of short-termism, but I suppose whilst the short-termism is good we can celebrate. Also, he a player that people can identify with, we gave him his first team breakthrough & we reaped the rewards, he's potentially a future club hero in the making, something which is more substantial & permanent than the wave of transient loan players, something which fans identify with and someone who embodies the club, however Hobbs himself was a loaner who we signed permanently, so there's nothing to say we can't sign our current loaners and they can become people we identify with.

Hobbs knows he hasn't been good this season.

He can get regular football with Celtic until the summer, and come back refreshed and kick on. If he wants to make it here all he has to get his head sorted and convince Sven. Sven isn't the type of manager to leave players in the wilderness, he won't rule out a return for Hobbs.

SPL clubs can't sign anyone out of the transfer window, either permanently or on loan unless they are a free agent.

This can not happen!

Celtic fan here. We can't sign anyone outside the transfer window this is a non-starter sadly I have been impressed any time I have seen him.

:(

I had high hopes for our future with Morisson, Hobbs, King, Waghorn as the spine of our team. Now only King is getting a look-in. Hopefully not a sign of things to come.

Stringer has gone off the boil recently if you ask me. Said Waggy was going out on loan, now it seems he isn't. Said Hobbs is going out on loan tomorrow, but that can't possibly happen.

He's talking a lot of shit recently

If the players are better why does it matter? It's a good thing. Let's get Hume back shall we?

Waghorn only didn't go because it looked like Vassell may not be fully fit, Derby then tried to sign the Kilmarnock player who ended up going to Wigan, so they still have the need to sign someone & Waggy still needs to play 1st team football regularly. I'd love to see what he could do in 2 full games for Sven new improved, reasonably organised, but superbly attacking side, but its not gonna happen.

Hobbs will go (not sure where the Celtic bullshit came from though) if Bruma comes in, Stringer has the correct info and I'd sooner him let us in on it even if it does jump the gun slightly than not be told at all and just found out on the news
