stockyfox Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 This afternoon, I have purposefully watched the QPR V Forest match. As we have to play both teams away, I wanted to see how we compared with them. As such, I have to say that whereas they are two very good championship teams, we are no longer a good championship team. This is because we are now, in essence, a mid to upper Premier League team. Our players are demonstrating Premier League qualities in their individual performances. We are seeing an increasingly Premier League style display of teamwork in our approach play. We retain the ball Premier League style. We are scoring goals that are worthy of the PL. Weale gets better and better. His display at Sheffield was at times world-class. The back 4 – Kyle Naughton, Ben Mee, Sol Bamba and Aanholt are all international class. Ritchie Wellens? His 'Player of the month' award says it all. Yuki Abe and are Andy King both international class. Paul Gallagher has emerged from 'semi-obscurity' into a key play-maker controlling the attack, whilst Darius Vassell can show a turn of speed that a gizelle might find hard to match. Then we have 'the Yak'! Next we look at the bench and behold seven players that would be automatic starters in most other teams. Our performances v Man City were not 'bravado, rise above your usual standard because it's a team in a higher division' efforts. We played cultured football, PL style football. We scored four against Millwall and again against Barnsley because we were a class above them which they were kind enough to state openly and without qualification. And at Sheffield, we defended with a resolute 'they shall not score' Alamo determination. The team came off the pitch at half-time yesterday smiling, laughing and joking – which even the Sky commentators refreshingly acknowledged. 'They don't want to come off' said one. I don't fear anybody in this league but I sense that more and more teams are beginning to fear not only our team but also our fantastic supporters home AND away, all of which helps to put the fear of God into other teams and their fans.
Bert Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 As much as I admire your optimism, let's not get ahead of ourselves. We've still got a hell of a lot of a hard work to do, not only to get into the Premier league, but to establish ourselves as a PL team once more.

shailen Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 I do get the feeling that everyone thinks we will defo get promoted, but we are still a fair way behind the rest of the teams in the play offs. If we lose a few games ppl will say that we are out of the running and quite rightly, so we still are playing catchup.
sdb Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Every time i've watched QPR they've been average. I don't get how they're running away with this league. We're looking very good at the mo but we have to be at least that to make the top 6, given our horrific start. Cardiff are as good as us and that's who we'll face at some point in the PO's, if we even get there. Lets not get ahead of ourselves!
Webbo Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 We're not even certain of making the play offs yet. We've been playing well lately but lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Zingari Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 We're not even certain of making the play offs yet. We've been playing well lately but lets not get ahead of ourselves. agreed , it's going to be a very very tall order to even get the 6th spot many a slip twixt cup and lip

We've still got a hell of a lot of a hard work to do, not only to get into the Premier league, but to establish ourselves as a PL team once more. Totall agree with you Bert but the big difference now is that I have confidence in the team and the team play with an air of confidence. Previously, I have hoped that we wouldn't lose. Now, I expect to win and so do the team! You forgot we have PL coaches and an international tactical genius manager who has links that most PL clubs don't have. Not only do I not fear anybody in this league but I don't fear most of the PL Absolutely. After watching the Manchester derby, I thought we could well give United a run for their money.
Swalker Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 I do get the feeling that everyone thinks we will defo get promoted, but we are still a fair way behind the rest of the teams in the play offs. If we lose a few games ppl will say that we are out of the running and quite rightly, so we still are playing catchup. We are still playing catch up yes but we are the in form team and have climbed the league very fast. If we keep the form up we will get there and from what I have seen we have looked comfortable and have won in 'first gear'. Every time i've watched QPR they've been average. I don't get how they're running away with this league. We're looking very good at the mo but we have to be at least that to make the top 6, given our horrific start. Cardiff are as good as us and that's who we'll face at some point in the PO's, if we even get there. Lets not get ahead of ourselves! They are an average team but they are effective and ad a good start. Who we play in the play offs- one I don't care because on this form we can beat anybody in the championship easily and two is very unsure because there are so many teams in the mix this year and the 4 in the spots- Norwich, Cardiff, Leeds and Swansea none are on sublime form and all have been dropping points since Christmas. We're not even certain of making the play offs yet. We've been playing well lately but lets not get ahead of ourselves. We're not certain but we are in a strong maybe stronger position than last year because we have the luxury of having something to aim to get to whereas last year once we were in it we were just trying to stay in there.
KFS Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 I was thinking about this after the game yesterday. I was pretty content with Pearson and his style of play last season. Okay, it did the job and we got into the playoffs. But, if we ever go backwards from what we have now, I would be so upset. I'm really enjoying the way we are going! :sge:

Simmo86 Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 That's see where we are at 5pm on 5th March. Will have played Cardiff and QPR away by then, wiil give us a good indication of how good a team we are!!
broughtonblue Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Just worried that if we do reach the 'promised' land, will our loanees stay, 4 of our back 5 and our main striker were loans on satday. Could be a long season in the prem if we don't keep them
stockyfox Posted 13 February 2011 Author Posted 13 February 2011 Just worried that if we do reach the 'promised' land, will our loanees stay, 4 of our back 5 and our main striker were loans on satday. Could be a long season in the prem if we don't keep them 'In Sven we trust!' Now, if I thought that Sven was considering pastures new, home or abroad, then that might prompt a few restless nights!
Captain... Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 A Ipswich Town FLC L 0-3 Awful against a poor side. H Leeds United FLC D 2-2 Poor apart from a 10 minute spell which only just preserved our home record under Sven A Millwall FLC L 0-2 Dire performance. A Hull City FLC W 1-0 Scrappy, but deserved win against 10 men H Swansea City FLC W 2-1 A good win against Play off rivals A Preston FLC D 1-1 Should have won convincingly against a relegation threatened team - didn't H Millwall FLC W 4-2 Could have been very different with the penalty and they had a man sent off A Sheffield Utd FLC W 1-0 Struggled to finish off a team in the relegation zone H Barnsley FLC W 4-1 Scored 4 cracking goals, but didnt play that convincingly against a decent Barnsely side A Derby County FLC W 2-0 We beat a very poor Derby team at a stroll Before we all start getting down on our knees and sucking their collective cocks, if you have a look at the stats for the last 10 games, W6 D2 L2 it's not bad, but hardly going to worry Manchester United, but if you look at who we've played, who we've lost to, and how we've played it is not as convincing as the original poster suggests. We still have a lot to do, and some tough games coming up. Don't get me wrong the way we are playing is good, and the results in 2011 fantastic, but lets not get ahead of ourselves, we are on the up but we are a long way off being a premiership side in more ways than one, it wasn't that long ago we couldn't beat Preston, and were losing to Millwall, Ipswich and Watford.
Alexikokopops Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Bloody hell, 6 weeks unbeaten and suddenly we'll be finishing in the top half of the Prem next season. Everyone's got a bit giddy all of a sudden
shailen Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Thing is since jan our team has got better with acquisitions like bamba, yak, mee and PVA. They have been the reason we have stayed unbeaten, we do look good now and i have every confidence we can get into play offs. Thing is we are still 4 points off which doesnt seem alot but remember it means we have to get five points more then those teams to guarantee play offs which is a tough.ask

We'll be pushing for Europe next season, donchaknow?
shailen Posted 14 February 2011 Posted 14 February 2011 Although we are level on points with this time last season We'll be pushing for Europe next season, donchaknow? Yeah but last season we were in the play offs after 31 games, this year we are not. Think the leagues gonna be tight between 1-6 so there is likely to be a higher points total for 6th place then last year which was 70.

We've still got a hell of a lot of a hard work to do, not only to get into the Premier league, but to establish ourselves as a PL team once more. Bert sums it totally up for me here... We are doing extremely well at the moment but football can change just like that and we must not get ahead of ourselves and say this and that.. Sven will be drilling that into his players aswell and keeping there feet firmly on the ground
