Striker Yakubu, on loan at the Walkers Stadium from Everton until the end of the season, has been massively impressed with 22-year-old King's contribution. The Nigerian international has had Premier League tussles with Lampard for Everton and Middlesbrough and says King shows many of the same qualities – and is convinced he will be a Premier League player. Yakubu said: "He is a really good player who is playing like Frank Lampard in the way he moves from the midfield to the attack and scores goals from all over. "He has been really great for us and it is good to have more than one player scoring goals." King has been in scintillating form for City this season with 14 league and cup goals and featured for Wales in the Nations Cup against the Republic of Ireland. He has scored four goals in the past three games, which is helping to drive City towards the Championship play-offs. "I see him every week playing and training and he is getting better with every game," said 28-year-old Yakubu. "I'm sure he can play in the Premier League as you can see the quality he has." Yakubu also revealed that a lot of his friends in the game are starting to sit up and take notice of City's surge towards the play-offs under former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson. He said: "When I said to people they should watch Leicester on the television they thought I was joking but my friends at Everton and Portsmouth (another of Yakubu's former clubs) have watched us and can see we play well. "They are all backing Leicester and it is the same with my friends in Nigeria." Both Yakubu and King were on the scoresheet in last weekend's 2-0 win at Derby and Yakubu's goal for City was a master-class in close control allied to power. It is already being tipped as a potential Goal Of The Season among City supporters, but the striker was modest. "For me, I got a goal and that is it. I always believe I can score goals and it helps the team move in the right direction. I had not scored for a couple of games and I was pleased to put that right." It was Yakubu's third goal since his arrival from Goodison Park but the Nigerian international says he is not interested in targets. "I just want to score as many as I can to help the team into the Premier League. "When I first came to Leicester I believed we could do it – and that is how I still feel. "Having a manager like Sven is one thing and I think we have the players too. We will be fine." City defender Jack Hobbs has completed his loan move to Hull City until the end of the season. He joins up with former boss Nigel Pearson
ajthefox Posted 16 February 2011 Posted 16 February 2011 Not sure how much I agree with the comparison but it can only be good for Kingy to hear this kind of thing, especially coming from someone who has played against Lampard and others of a very high calibre.

breadandcheese Posted 16 February 2011 Posted 16 February 2011 Lampard is a poor man's King It's an obvious comparison to make and one that's been made on here many times. King possesses that same quality of ghosting into the box from midfield as Lampard and before him David Platt.

Pushes forward at the right times rarely ever waiting for the ball in the box but arriving with it making him horrible to mark.

He appreciates the opportunity Leicester gave him and I believe when we get to the prem he will be happy with us. Leicester's version of Scotty Parker.

Collymore Posted 16 February 2011 Posted 16 February 2011 Lampard gave one of the best individual performances I have ever seen when we lost 4-3 in the cup. Lawrie Dudfield's 2nd half performance agsinst West Ham reserves is another. I think King needs to be more consistent to be classed premier league quality.

ajthefox Posted 17 February 2011 Posted 17 February 2011 Lampard is constantly on the ball. That's why I'm not so sure about this comparison. Nice and all that, but Kingy very rarely moves with the ball and instead is always looking to offload it quickly and then get on the end of something later in the move. Lampard is often casual in posession and keeps the ball. They score similar goals but I don't think they're that similar in terms of playing style.
