Bert Posted 28 March 2011 Posted 28 March 2011 So, five players pull out. Not surprisingly they're all in the champions league. To make things worse Gareth Barry is going to be captain. It'll be quite interesting to see how England do without the "bigger" players. Part of me would love to see our best display under Capello though. Ghana have sold a miserly 21,000 tickets.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 28 March 2011 Posted 28 March 2011 Capello loves his bumboy Barry. Enough to drop him in a Euro 2012 qualifier and play him in a meaningless friendly.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 28 March 2011 Posted 28 March 2011 I'd love to see Wilshere piss these about. Don't think we'll win though, not that I'm bothered about a friendly.
Wymsey Posted 28 March 2011 Posted 28 March 2011 Never thought of Gareth Barry being an international. He can look very average at times to be fair.
MikeyT Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 The Football Association has confirmed that on-loan Sunderland striker Danny Welbeck has been called up to the England squad for Tuesday's friendly against Ghana. The Manchester United player has scored six Premier League goals during his temporary move to the Stadium of Light and that form has been recognised by Fabio Capello. England look set to name as many as 11 changes against Ghana at a sold-out Wembley in a completely new team to that which defeated Wales in Euro 2012 qualifying last weekend. Liverpool's £35million striker, Andy Carroll, is set to lead the line and Welbeck is therefore expected to feature on the bench and could make his senior team debut as a substitute. Welbeck has made 10 appearances for England's Under 21s, scoring three goals, but was not involved on Monday night, when Stuart Pearce's side suffered a disappointing defeat to Iceland. Important The 20-year-old was excused from duty because he only recently returned from the injury which caused him to miss the majority of January and all of February at club level. But Capello has decided to call Welbeck, who scored in last week's U21 4-0 win over Denmark, into his senior squad. Welbeck recently told the Newcastle Chronicle that his involvement with the U21s was important to him, despite the decision to not be involved against Iceland. He said: "I enjoy being part of the England U21s and I don't like missing games. "It is fantastic to get picked for your country at any level and pulling on the Three Lions shirt means a lot to me. I'm at the stage of my career where I'm trying to make a name for myself. "Coming to Sunderland this season is part of that and playing for the England U21s is another part of that - my performances for the U21s actually helped me get noticed in the first place."
lcfc_jme Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 Gareth Barry, England Captain. Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!! Literally makes a complete mockery of both the importance of captaincy and principles of common sense. Utterly ridiculous.
Corky Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 Hopefully the captaincy is a farewell present to Mr Barry at international level.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 I'd like to see Welbeck involved. All of a sudden we've got options up top now instead of having to rely on Rooney, Crouch and Defoe, so refreshing.
Uncle Albert Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 Gareth Barry, England Captain. Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!! Literally makes a complete mockery of both the importance of captaincy and principles of common sense. Utterly ridiculous. Correct Jamie! Hopefully like Corky said hopefully this is a goodbye gesture. The eleven.. Hart Johnson Cahill Jags BainesMilner Barry WilshireYoung Carroll Downing Hope Wellbeck doesnt come on, Sunderland players in the England set up is a joke unless its Lee Cattermole. Anyway think this could be a great match with good football!
Joeb.lcfc Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 young's looking good as are the whole team going forward
Stadt Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 Carroll is the most overated player in history. A.Cole or J.Cole surely?
StanSP Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 A.Cole or J.Cole surely? Ashley Cole over-rated? Are you serious?
Dames Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 Carroll is the most overated player in history. He's only in the team because of his price tag. His control has been awful so far..
broughtonblue Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 Carroll is the most overated player in history. Downing must be up there!
Stadt Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 Ashley Cole over-rated? Are you serious? Yeah deadly.
Dames Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 Good finish.. Thankfully he didn't have a touch beforehand.
Jackirius Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 Good goal, starting to enjoy watching England play for once.
