The Year Of The Fox Posted 8 December 2012 Author Share Posted 8 December 2012 But you have to be responsible for your own actions. It was a cheap shot that went horribly wrong. Just like the nurse was responsible for her own actions. Not the,djs fault she topped herself
purpleronnie Posted 8 December 2012 Share Posted 8 December 2012 We did what we usually do and go completely OTT after the ross & brand prank phonecall, it completely dominated the headlines for weeks and it led to a complete change in BBC broadcasting and now we have some of the most regulated radio & TV in the world......all this because of a prank phonecall. It was a stupid thing to do on the Aussie dj's part but I'm sure not in the wildest dreams would they have thought it could lead to someones death. They should be punished sure, but I hope Australia doesn't go down the same path as the UK....I'm sure they won't.
The Doctor Posted 8 December 2012 Share Posted 8 December 2012 If those are your criteria for not playing things on commercial radio then you're going to be left with a lot of dead air aye, that would have killed Chris Moyle's show before he went off air. Having said that, maybe it isn't such a bad idea.

Jon the Hat Posted 8 December 2012 Share Posted 8 December 2012 If those are your criteria for not playing things on commercial radio then you're going to be left with a lot of dead air It was more the fact that they came out a apologised, and it sounded to me like they were saying they didn't expect to get through etc, and if it was the case that they got more than they expected, they could have not aired it. Parafox Posted 8 December 2012 Share Posted 8 December 2012 http://www.google.co...Y_o6f9P9YlJTOpw Yeah OK, but I still say, "so what". I'm fed up with the constant updates on every f***king news bulletin. If you dont like the royals then just say so instead of looking for reasons to not like them. I didn't say I didn't like the Royals, I just don't like the furore that the press seem to indulge in over a pretty unimportant episode.
Rincewind Posted 8 December 2012 Share Posted 8 December 2012 If the press hadn't hyped up the Royals importance and the public had not fallen for the hype the incident would not have happened.

Jon the Hat Posted 8 December 2012 Share Posted 8 December 2012 To be fair a hell of a lot of people would find it hard being humiliated all over the world media, and feeling they let their colleagues down.
ADK Posted 8 December 2012 Share Posted 8 December 2012 Like i said, thats why these types of things are quite cruel. They thrust members of the public with no media background into the public eye as figures of ridicule. I'm not sure i buy the hospital saying they wern't bringing disciplinary actions either. Its quite important usually that you don't reveal sensitive data although perhaps that would affect the nurse which did that.

Mark_w Posted 9 December 2012 Share Posted 9 December 2012 I hope both the DJs get AIDs, die of a cold and then Jimmy Saville touches them in the afterlife If you're trying to be funny, you're not. If you're serious, then you need to realise that they really didn't do an awful lot wrong. If you think joking about a child molester is morally acceptable but pretending to be the Queen and ringing a hospital isn't you need help. Danno Posted 9 December 2012 Share Posted 9 December 2012 Ok was a bit far saying that was a joke though. And not a lot wrong? They rang a hospital pretending to be the queen(surely that's illegal) and as the guy above said were bragging about it on twitter until the cowards deleted their accounts. And most likely caused the suicide of a woman with two young children, all for some no mark radio show in Australia. Strikes me as a pair of wankers. The woman commited suicide, but I doubt solely as a result of the actions of the DJs, what they did I think most people listening at the time would have considered unfunny but relativley harmless, you could hardly predict it would have the effect it did. The fact that this girl commited suicide is a tragedy clearly. But on the face of it what the radio presenters did is hardly the worst crime known to man, I wonder why pretending to be the queen and bragging about it is no laughing matter and a terrible thing to joke about, but the abuse of children and a disease that kills millions of people isn't in your mind. Rincewind Posted 9 December 2012 Share Posted 9 December 2012 There were probably quite a few people that thought the prank funny and made fun of the nurses that took the call. If the nurse had lived they would still be making jokes about it for months maybe years. These are probably the same people that are having a go at the DJ's now. If anything it has shown that the procedure for taking calls and giving out information on the phone was at fault whether it is for a Royal or member of the public. Maybe there should be only a limited amount of staff authorised to give out information or at least calls put through to a specialised team.
