21st Century Fox Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 I really don't like the sound of that, way too Americanised. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13792977 Its actually going to be called "The FA Cup with Budweiser".

Fosse Boy Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 I'm far more alarmed about the final being moved to an evening k/o for TV to be honest. Seedings will be next...
AjcW Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 "C'est La Vie" If it means more prize money then it can only benefit the smaller clubs. But as with any sponsorship issues or Sky issues on here, many foxestalkers are still stuck in the dark ages and dont quite grasp the value of branding and sponsorship. Its the way of the world, and the sooner people wake up to it the easier it will be. How is this any different to E.ON?? That was hardly glamorous, or AXA??? Or even Carling with the Carling Cup or even in fact the CocaCola League that we have played in and now nPower, brands that mean we can buy one or two extra players a season?!?! No biggy for me, its the Fa Cup, no Yank is following you around grabbing your bollocks until you recite the Budweiser Credo word for word are they!! Your not being forced to call it anything different it will just be refereed to in a different way!!

This is such a bad choice, it just chips away at the identity of the competition. Its just the constant reminder of how business has its hooks in sport. Sport in its nature is pro-competition where as business (capitalism) is anti-competition, the two just jar so badly. Bit off topic but like I said its just another one of those constant reminders.

But now that the FA Cup is sponsored by a Belgian company and named after a product that is produced in Burton, the FA is all but shitting inside the Cup? Please. And get a grip with this "American" stuff. Corporate sponsorship is so much more blatantly tacky in English football than it is in any of the "Big 4" North American sports leagues.

Absolutely, people still bang on about 'Americanisation' of british sports, I'm afraid it isnt so.

And conversely I can see a far greater value in the ideas of football being a sport based on community, heritage and tradition. I'm plenty awake with regards to knowing "the way of the world" when it comes to football, I just don't much care for it.
ajthefox Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 They could've at least chosen a nicer lager, Budweisers shit.
Ozwin Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 Wembley presents to you - sponsored by Budweiser, the F.A. Cup Halftime Show.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 They could've at least chosen a nicer lager, Budweisers shit. This is more important, Got stuck having to drink them at the World cup out of plastic bottles. Only plus was they were ok priced and you could buy as many as you wanted and take them to your seat. 3 of us ended up with 20 of them just before the Australia V Germany game.......4 nil lose the beers came in handy.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 Perhaps people should be more worried about the fact that for the 2nd year running the final is going to be played on the same day as league games, because the FA lacked the foresight to bring the season forward a bit.
Corky Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 I know the value of branding and sponsorship, it just sounds crap.
brockmyster Posted 18 June 2011 Posted 18 June 2011 Double standards, child football shirts cant have an alcoholic brand on them as sponsorship, yet the two main cup competitions in the country can be sponsored by two beer brands the FA are just money grabbing twats
tylesta Posted 18 June 2011 Posted 18 June 2011 I know the value of branding and sponsorship, it just sounds crap. will agree it sounds crap but imo i always call it the fa cup, i never said who we got in the e.on cup or littewoods cup etc always who we drawn in the fa cup. makes no diffrence to me.
millzi Posted 19 June 2011 Posted 19 June 2011 What they gonna do next? Introduce multiball? Exactly the same thing I thought when I saw this Mul-TI ball! I'm not going to slate Budweiser though, bought a crate/"slab" of Bud today, for $45 and got this bad boy for free.. I only bought the Bud because I wanted the ball In hindsight I kinda regret throwing away $45 like that.
