They want to see if he can remain fit for a whole pre-season, if not he will be off-loaded! It's great to see him being given a chance to prove himself!

Sven was asked in the interview on FoxesPlayer and "Tunchev has trained every day, every session and is looking better all the time. Has a contract with us until August and I hope to be able to make a new contract then"

also said Michael Ball looking good and he's likely to get a contract also

I really hope he does well and earns a new contract, a lovely guy and i always felt the back looked more comfortable and stable with him there.

Really hopeful that he will come through pre-season unscathed.

For all of his effort and determination he fully deserves a new contract.

Plus of course he was and hopefully still will be a class act on the pitch.

Good luck Tunch.

Sven-Goran Eriksson has given Aleksandar Tunchev until the end of the month to prove he is ready for the rigours of a Championship season.

The Bulgarian defender is joining in all the pre-season preparations with City as he continues his return from a long-term knee injury.

He will join City on their tours of Sweden and Austria, and will be in the squad for the mouth-watering final friendly of the summer against Real Madrid on July 30.

If Tunchev comes through the pre-season training programme without any setbacks, Eriksson said he could be offered a contract. His present deal expires at the end of the month.

"I really hope he will pass the whole pre-season without any real problems," said Eriksson.

"He has a contract until August 1 so, at the end of pre-season, we will take a decision on that, so I hope he can do it.

"He has looked after himself and has done a lot of work over the summer, and he has to. But it is impossible to say what is going to happen in three weeks' time."

Although City have signed defenders Sean St Ledger, from Preston North End, and Matt Mills, from Reading, they have sold Jack Hobbs to Hull.

Eriksson said the departure of Hobbs, who was on the verge of the England Under-21 squad after a promising first couple of seasons with City, was in the player's best interests.

"He is young and talented and wants to play most of the games," said Eriksson. "Probably he wouldn't have many games here, so I think it was the right step for him.

"We wish him good luck and thank him for all his efforts."

Meanwhile, Eriksson said he was delighted with his recent acquisitions, Lee Peltier, Kasper Schmeichel, Neil Danns and St Ledger.

"Kasper has experience in this league and he has played Premier League football," said the City boss.

"I know he is a good keeper as this is the second time I have bought him. I bought him for Notts County.

"Lee can also play in midfield. He is young and a very talented player.

"He is hard-working and very busy. He will do well for us.

"Neil brings a lot of energy and scores goals. He scored 10 goals last season, and he can play wide or down the middle. I am sure he will do very well.

"Sean is a very good defender, proven in league football, but also on the international stage for the Republic of Ireland."

As much as people love him and would like to see him play for us, I don't think he'll be able to stay injury free and will always be troubled by injuries.
