Bruno Berner - new First Team Coach?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Speaking to the Sports Editor of Tages-Anzeiger (the main Zurich newspaper) yesterday. He's been told that Bruno has been offered the First Team Coach job with City - to replace Didi Hamann. Sven apparently considered going outside the club and the likes of Sammy Lee and Peter Taylor; but, has now decided to go for an internal appointment. He's been very impressed with Bruno - his attitude, personality and tactical knowledge - and thinks he has the skills to go a long way in Coaching. Apparently a one year contract as Player / Coach is initially on offer. Bruno was hoping to return to Switzerland this summer, but this offer is attractive and he is considering it; though ideally, he'd want a 2 year contract. Watch this space.

I'll wait until I see this on a credible sight first before I believe it, but if it is true...

Bruno as coach

Bruno will be the first to admit he won't get much playing time this season but for him to get a role as first team coach will be a great appointment hope this happens

Peter Taylor is a decent COACH but a horrible MANAGER, Bruno in the Chris Powell role could be a good move

I think that would be a great appointment, i love Bruno and i hope he sticks around, this could be a great opportunity for him, 1st team Coach, being mentored by Sven, who could say no??

Bruno to step into Hamann's old role?

This is what I said yesterday! Me and Sven on the same wavelengths

Also, if Peter Taylor ever returned I would nail that cvnt.

Not for me..

I think peoples heart over rule there heads too much with things like this..

Chrissy p was an example..people wanting him manager etc but look how he's done so far..

100% win rate at Leicester

Seems fair enough for me, not really sure how much a coach needs to do but he's been round long enough to probably go along with what he knows.

This could work well. Bruno is great to have around, and is already familiar with the club and players, etc. We'll always have the option of him as backup too.

WTH was Sven thinking, even having Taylor on his shortlist?

Yes, I know they had some success together for England, but Taylor's history in Leicester is a little different.

He sent us on the road to administration - an experience from which, nearly a decade on, the club has yet to fully recover.

The mention of Peter Twat in the OP makes the story seem suspect to me. Am I wrong? It'd be nice to keep him at the club without him having to be 9th choice LB.

Maybe Sven does not know the history of Taylor debacle with our club

would be very happy with this. Bruno could do a great job. Though I don't think Peter Taylor would dare return, surely if the mans got ant sense!!

Bruno is popular at the club and would be a good move.

However, Taylor should be nowhere near the club. He may be a good coach but bringing him would create untold negativity and hostility and would provide a needless distraction.

Even if Sven did consider Taylor, I'm sure that someone at the club would have had to point out to Sven that it would be possibly the worst appointment he could make.

Bruno as Coach sounds pretty realistic to me. Sven was quoted as saying he was considering an internal appointment - we all (including me !) jumped to the conclusion that it would be Oakley (or Howard). I think Sven could have spotted something in Bruno - everybody seems to have a good word to say about him as a guy and he's a pretty experienced player (just like CP - another left back !). The signing of Konchesky and/or Masilela and/or Ball would mean no first team role for Bruno. (Reserve) Player / Coach would be ideal. I hope he decides to accept the 1 year contract offered - and not move.
