Tottenham and other disturbances / riots

Recommended Posts

Heard a few rumours now about a riot being organised in Leicester on the 12th.

Anyone else heard anything?

There was an event on Facebook trying to start one last night but it appears to have been taken down now after numerous complaints to the police. One idiot even set up an account called Leicester Riot.

I can't help thinking that some are being overly analytical as to the causes of these riots. They may have started in Tottenham for genuine reasons, but the spread of them almost certainly owes more to one-upmanship, the desire to 'get in on the action,' and a perverted sense of entitlement to luxuries thousands of us cannot afford than any entirely understandable anger at the government for cutting public services. I'm going to stick my neck out and say the overwhelming majority of rioters don't have a fvcking clue about institutional racism within the Met or the consequences of cutting EMA.

It's opportunism, they see those in tottenham basically robbing and looting and getting away with it, so other scum, low lifes are no going around in each city.

The police is in a no win situation, because if they act and go in with force, the softies of this country and the chances of getting sued and lose your job if you hurt someone are so high, the softies will be up in arms etc. If they do not do anything people's lives are being ruined, the police\army need to inact curfew or martian law!!

Without being arsed to trawl the whole article, what went wrong? If you're talking about 53 dead rioters, I take that as a positive.

My point was that the riots were caused by over violent police in the first place.

I guess because these people are supposedly 'deprived' this is a valid excuse for the crimes and it's the fault of the 'middle' classes, whatever that means.

Agreed. But there are socio political questions to be asked around "How did we get here?"

"How did this become cool, normal, justified in the minds of young people?"

Where are the ethics, values and the morals?

I'm not attempting to provide excuses, far from it - answers though, this has happened and what causation factors exacerbated and motivated the behaviour and how did it get there and at what point could intervention have prevented this situation - if any?

Come on Bilo - you know it's more complicated than 'one-upmanship'

Unfortunatley morals cannot be taught at school, especially of these feckers didn;t even bother to turn up. I agree with Nick the issues stem from a multitude of angles, from upbringing and good parentting, to media, and societies general degradation.

You're pissing in the wind until it all calms down, Nick. I’m disappointed by the some of the posts on here. It’s amazing how quick middle-class liberals can turn right-wing when their forty acres get threatened.

Considering it is not where we want to be, I strongly suspect some idiot gave my wife the map. angry.gif

Did they give her a bike and a map to a local?

I could start walking now and we could be drunk in no time?

I'll allow you to riot in one of the fields on the footpath - that would be most entertaining.

so that's why they are burning buildings looting etc etc. for ****s sake this is not the way to destroy people's life's who have done nothing wrong. the rioters need a good ****ing kicking from the police and army . shoot the whole lot of the scum and rid this country .

I dread to think what was said judging by some of the comments being posted here.

It actually made some really entertaining reading - so much so, a year on in, I dredged up the Mr. Daggers thread just so I could re-read your post...."Point on the Doll to where Mr. Daggers touched you"

I never get tired of it.
