accessory Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Jesus Christ! Hate it when people question Sven's calibre. As with Heskey, a debate on Sven is one of the quickest ways to discern how much someone understands about football. Look at what he's won and achieved, look at where we were when he came in, look at the contacts he has and the top players that love working for him. The guy has earned his name as a top manager. You don't have to be an all-shouting, all-raving lunatic to motivate players. As the manager has admitted, his knowledge of English club football (especially in the lower leagues) has been limited. His prior record elsewhere in Europe suggests (though doesn't guarantee) that he'll do better with his own team this season. But he got the team selection and tactics badly wrong today and we are entitled to expect better from him, especially given the fatcat salary we are paying to lure him to our club.
easilee Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 I put this to you...if Sven wasn't Sven and was some unknown backwater manager... Given the money spent this summer would you accept that dross we had to suffer this afternoon? Course you wouldn't... Yes cos it's the 2nd game of the friggin' season.

If a backwater manager had spent 10mil and we experienced the disappointment of the game today. You'd be pretty angry as you would have the feeling that the money was wasted and that the season wouldn't get any better. Guess what....we haven't and it will.

Freeman's Wharfer Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Yes cos it's the 2nd game of the friggin' season. Took the words right out of my mouth! I've certainly seen worse in the past decade and this isn't Sven's second game, I'll judge him on his whole time in charge so far. Everyone knows what the aims and expectations are, I don't think the pressure needs cranking up even more after just one poor performance. It's a marathon not a sprint but for now I'm happy to have Sven in charge.
Guest parky0607 Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 am i the only one who dont think sven is a good manager??? sure he did well with england and whatever but i dont think he can motivate the players, the reading manager today was always in his technical box shouting and telling his players what to do, all sven does is just sit down and watches, he very rarely gets up, also i think everyone only likes him because he can bring in big names, (though they can not play together), after watching todays game i really do wish someone like pearson becomes manager. This has epic fail written all over it

There's always one. Shut up and get back to us after we've played 10 or so games, not 2. We could win the next 8 for goodness sake.
Smudge Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Is this thread for real? Seriously, 2 games into the season and another 44 to go. Oh dear. The thing that surprises me is that you and anyone else of you caliber would even comment on this crap.
Ozwin Posted 13 August 2011 Posted 13 August 2011 Pissing me off how people think we're bloody Barcelona all of a sudden because we've bought a few players. None of our signings are exactly world beaters. Most know this league and are getting back into the swing of things. It's only been 2 bleedin' games, I bet Wet Spam didn't go into meltdown when they lost their first game. Reading aren't exactly a bad team either, they made the playoffs last season for **** sake and have hardly signed anyone so with the exception of Long and Mills they're basically the same team.

Basil Brush Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 Knowing West Ham fans, they probably did. haha
Ashley Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 Sven not a good manager? Just look at his winners medals. Need I say any more?
GH1 Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs and blaming you.... For god sake 2 league games, let's stay positive
MikeyT Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 Yay this thread is still open! Only after 2 games of the season and wallybrains are moaning about Sven. Hahaha! Oh deary me. Played 3 incuding the cup game and won 2!
Syko Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 Sven out! It's not good enough! I suggest we all make flags/signs/tshirts/start a Facebook group/tweet stringer and march outside the ground before Tuesdays game!! 6pm outside the players entrance. Who's with me?
buzzy Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 Sven not a good manager? Just look at his winners medals. Need I say any more? but when was the last time he won anything 11 years ago

Played 3 incuding the cup game and won 2! Fickle, that's the word. If we beat Brizzle on Wednesday and get a decent result against F*r*st next Saturday all the doubters will magically disappear and :sge: will be king!
Fox92 Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 I did critisize Sven last season, and I'm starting to wonder now. I'm not going to take it to far because we have lost one out of three in all comps this season. But I did think to myself, are managers like McDermott better man-managers/tactical managers than Sven? Managers like McDermott and Paul Lambert of Norwich seem to buy lower league/average players, and get the best out of them, theres no doubt about it, hence Norwich are in the Premier League now. We have spent over £6million to try and win promotion and have a team of, what looks on paper, good enough Championship players. Where as, teams like Reading have a squad full of average players (yes, players like Harte were brought from lower leagues etc), but them seem to look better - is this down to the manager? I think, well of course it is. Is it motivation? What is it? Then again, they can't be, can they? Sven managed England, and he has won more throphies as a manager than most. I am wondering though. Some of his decisions seem to be strange, a bit. One up front at home etc. I think its so frustrating.
HEGGSY Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 44 games to go 132 points up for grabs and 3 weeks left of the transfer window...enough said.
Happy Fox Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 44 games to go 132 points up for grabs and 3 weeks left of the transfer window...enough said. Who else do you expect us to buy or loan? imo we need at least 2 strikers and winger
Fox92 Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 imo we need at least 2 strikers and winger Thats not just your opinion, thats mine as well, and I think nearly half the stadiums. We need two good wingers. And a good goalscoring striker.
Callabinho Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 Stupid threat, at least he showed one thing today, that he is fair! Schlupp deserved his start it just didn't work out!
shade Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 **** it, I'll put it out there again, we need two central strikers. think starsky and hutch.
Nick Posted 14 August 2011 Posted 14 August 2011 I put this to you...if Sven wasn't Sven and was some unknown backwater manager... Given the money spent this summer would you accept that dross we had to suffer this afternoon? Course you wouldn't... Says the man who was for his appointment, then against it, then talked round, then behind the team, then amazed and excited by the signings, then said he'd definitely give the manager till Christmas.......... Oh look, two games in and a poor team performance and we are shouting the words unacceptable and pointing at the manager. Do something useful with the broken record, Go play Frisbee and mind you don't cut yourself. Let's face it Col unless we win you'll call for the managers head - surprise me, write a different post between now and Christmas.
