Milan Mandaric

Hi all Owls fan in peace

Just wanted to know what your thoughts are on Milan's past transfer activity. Little or no money is been spent to get us of that hell hole of a League One and unless he spends any cash looks like another depressing season. Another depressing result at Bury last night, outplayed by Bury and resulting to playing hoof ball....

I get the feeling he will want to sell us for a profit in a few years like he did with you, but obviously nobdoy will touch us in league one, his transfer policy as been like a bloke at a poker table or a Car salesman looking for the cheapest deal.

Cheers

Where are we?

Without Iain Hume, Josh Low, Henderson, Paddy Mcarthy, 'The Walkers'

Things have changed, and it all began with him

We wouldn't be where we are now without him.

in his reign he took us to league 1 . and how many managers were they when he was here

There's mixed views amongst City fans on Mandaric, personally I think he did a good job here because ultimately he left us in better position that we were in when he arrived.

He did always back his managers in the transfer market here though, so i'm surprised he's not done that for you guys yet.

The blokes a crook.

We only ended up in a better postion due to him getting lucky with Nigel Pearson who worked miracles on a shoestring budget!

Your better off without

All this saved the club is bollocks aswell

He made a load of money out of us, went through loads of mgrs who went through loads of players, obviously not a great way to run a club but he did everything he could to make money out of us which means his aims & your aims are aligned. I'd be worried about any land the club owns he'd probably retain ownership if he sells the club

The managers weren't all his fault, Martin Allen had a promising record but wasn't fit to manage, Megson let him down, Worthington wasn't good enough to manage a full season & we all including Milan had a right to expect more from Holloway.

Megson is your problem, Nigel Pearson didn't spend too much & was crafty in the loan market with quality players from ManU, Ars & Liverpool. Megson is just a usless negative cvnt

And for everyone slating Milan... I didn't see too many other people queuing up to buy us, the road to ruin & going down was inevitable & made us stronger anyway

Milan maybe a crook, but he raised our profile enough to be sold to rich owners who hopefully can take us further than he could.

You've got to think about him as a money man, whilst he's there he wants money, the only way for him to get that is achieve relative success this means his aim & the fans aims are aligned even though the goals are different.

But feck Megson off, trouble is Milan is running out people who'll work for him, maybe.

The bottom line is he is a businessman & has only one interest............making money. He works on the basic business principle of 'buy cheap......sell dear'. It has nothing to do with his love for Portsmouth, Leicester, or Sheffield. Pick a team up for peanuts, who are financially on their knees. He will make a minimum investment, give them some financial stability & hope to sell on when they are back on their feet..........& sell the club at a profit. It very nearly blew up in his face here at Leicester, but like a previous post has mentioned - he got lucky with Nigel Pearson. He also got lucky with our new Thai owners showing an interest.

I spent a few years living in Sheffield & I have a lot of affection for what I thought was a great city. I wish you luck for the season!!

A word of warning, he won't continue to pump money in (in terms of putting money in to keep you running), towards the end of his time here he really cut back. Also, no matter how they glossed it up he was looking to sell the training ground off to developers and move us somewhere else. Don't believe a word he says, question absolutely everything he does.

In terms of money paid out on transfers I think we were probably close to being in profit due to sales of some players. Thankfully we had Nigel Pearson in charge who picked up some bargains.

LMAOOOOOO

Sorry not your fault but as i lived in barnsley for a while and had some good owls m8's.

When millan took over at your place i tried to answer a few ? on youir site to let you guys get an idea about him.

Got told to fvck right off n keep my nose out. Was told i was just pissed off cos we had lost a great owner.

Bet they don't think he's so great now.

He took us to our lowest ever position and it was his fault.

The season we went down our manager squad for the season was as big as our playing squad.

Well if your lucky he'll find a buyer soon.

It's not his transfer policy you need to be concerned about it's his total inability to employ a good manager, probably down to the fact he sticks is oar in and tries to determine who they should buy and the need to be 'in charge' of the club as well as the team to the point where it is totally counter-productive.

He appointed one good manager at the club, and when it should've been good to invest to push us further it wasn't provided.

I am firmly in the dislike MM club. In my humble opinion he was interested in us before we went into admin, but he let us fall from grace just so he could get us at a fraction of the price. Then everyone claims he saved us. TBF he did buy a load of players in his first season but all that change and chopping managers did was end us up in LG1, (one of only 9 clubs to never have been there). I fear for you wednesday fans he will not want to make a loss and will measure his spending. Totally unlike our current owners who think nothing of relaying a perfectly adequate pitch at £100,000 less than a season before totally changing the playing surface. They then splash the cash on 15m worth of players with no thought of a return. Having said this they spent all of that with a view to getting to the prem this season which will return 90m as I understand it. Huge profit in anyones books, however this is where they differ from milan he would pocket it and sell while the going was good. I have little doubt that our current owners will pump it back into the club. :scarf:

i think milan must have handed out some rose tinted glasses to a few people when he left

the man is a shitebag

Would also like to know how much did he spend on players when you went down or did he just bring loans in...

We spent very little really, but we managed to keep some key players, and were fortunate we had decent players in the academy at the time, and were able to bring in young quility from the premiership (Tom Cleverly) fairly easily.

I think Nigel Pearson had a lot more to do with our success after getting relegated than MM did tbh.

Mandaric was like a financial life support machine for us. He fulfilled that role very well imo. His approach to on the field matters was a bit haphazard, especially in the early days, but if he's not just throwing money around, signing anyone and everyone (Hellings, Kaebi et al), maybe that means he's learning?

I'm in the anti Mandaric camp for the following reasons.

1. He bought the club on the cheap when completely unfounded rumours of admin appeared in the Daily Mirror. It was reported by 'sources' that he would buy us for £25 million thus saving us from administration (even though we were't in danger of going into admin). He actually bought us for £500k.

2. He 'saved' us from relegation in his first season by sacking Rob Kelly and appointing Nigel Worthington, only he didn't, Kelly (for all his limitations) had amassed enough points prior to his sacking to keep us up.

3. He bought in players without the managers knowledge. He's admitted to buying Bruno N'Gotty from Brum prior to us having a manager. He brought in Loanees when we were between managers, none of these played.

4. He appointed a director of football Don Mackay who worked alongside Lil Fuccillo and signed Sergio Hellings, Jimmy Neilson, Kaebi. They then mysteriously left in double quick time after just 6 weeks and the listed players amassed 3 first team appearances between them. There are people who know why they left.

5. He has a woeful track record in appointing managers and got lucky with Pearson when he was recommended to him by Lee Hoos.

6. He managed to get rid of Pearson by courting Sousa.

7. He managed to reside over our first ever relegation to the third tier of English football.

Now in his defence in his first full season of ownership he did bring in players costing money, so he was willing to invest initially, but every season from that point on he cut back and cut back. He's bought Wednesday for exactly the same reason he bought us and that is to make a quick buck.

He saved the club and left us in a better position, so I like him.

What better position is this? When he came, we were in the Championship and now we're still in the Championship.

As for fans, our ticket prices hit the £30 barrier under him.
