S1DDO Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 This is mine: Weale Konchesky Bamba Mills Pantsil Wellens Abe Johnson King Schlupp Waghorn Same formation as saturday, time for a settled back four.
Guest Col city fan Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 When I used to play FM, it was these sorts of games that I used to dread the most. I'd want to give all my best and available reserves and youngsters a go, and get any unfit players closer to match fitness. I'd often go into a cup match expecting an easy win and get knocked out by a lower league team, so you have to get the balance right between giving opportunities to fringe players and using enough quality players if you want to stay in the competition and avoid embarrassment. I expect a second string team should get through this round, so I think we should rest our best players for Soton in the league on Saturday. To play a bit safer, I'd take a strong bench. The rule is 7 subs for the League Cup which is good. This diamond formation is definitely the way to go, at least until we get some good wingers in, and we seem to be a lot better away from home at the moment, so I think this should work well. I had a tough time choosing between Weale and Smith, but I see this as a good opportunity to try to give Weale back some confidence - we all know that he was a pretty reliable keeper under NP, and he should be looking to sort himself out now to be ready if he has to be thrown into the first team again. It's also a great game to get Johnson and Ball on the way to being fully fit. I'd want to see how well Gallagher can perform in the hole, making clever passes for the strikers. I picked Mills because he's captain, and while he had a much improved game on Saturday, I think he could do with this game to settle in more and gain a bit more confidence. Also, we'd get some idea as to how well he'd work with St Ledger in central defence. If it goes horribly wrong, there's plenty of quality on the bench that should be enough to rescue the game. Bench: Smith Bamba Konchesky Fernandes Danns/King Vassell Nugent I'm still an FM fan ( sad I know) and your team is exactly the team I'd pick for the same reasons.. I'm hoping for good performances from the front pairing especially. Let's see schlupp and wags score a couple each and get their confidence up.
marbelladave Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Weale Peltier St Ledger Bamba Ball Abe Moussa Oakley Johnson Schlupp Waghorn Think this is more or less ok., might give Smith a go in goal and pair Howard with Schlupp up front but neither with any great conviction. Need to win for reasons of moral, otherwise just an opportunity to give a feww squad players a game.
ithuriel Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 I'd go with saturdays team but obviously with Weale in goal and Schlupp up front to rest Nugent.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 23 August 2011 Author Posted 23 August 2011 I would play Nugent, keep him scoring. I would put him on the bench, give him a rest
Libertine Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 As long as Johnson starts I'm happy. Hope he plays more advanced though, seemed to play a more holding role against Rotherham?
marbelladave Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 I would play Nugent, keep him scoring. Don't think either he or Vassell are 100% fit....... Play Schlupp off Howard, just for the amusement value. At the very least Schlupp would get a worthwhile lesson in how not to play center forward.......
FrankieWorthoYaggedMyWife Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Weale Pelt Mills St L Ball Abe King Johnson Dyer Schlupp Wankhorn
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 If Johnson is fit, he should play.
Lambert09 Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Ball can do one. Waste of space. Would rather have oakley play left back tbh
Gaffer Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Some of the shit you hear on Fox Travel "Bring tunchev in and sell mills to crystal palace for a mill" "Spend a few mill on that league 2 strikers Adam... He'll cut it!"

blueblood88 Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 If Johnson is fit, he should play. Exactly, he needs game time to get properly match fit, if we're not going to ease him in to the team, there was no point in signing him in the first place. Once fit, I would have thought he will be the man we build the team around.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 subs: smith bamba nugent king dyer something similar to this would do me thinks
Monk Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 I'd give Waghorn a shot, but he is fast running out of opportunities to impress, and if transfer rumours are to be believed perhaps he won't even play. A goal or two tonight would do him the world of good.
Fmfox Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 if it was me i think i would go with: Weale Peltier Bamba Mills Koncheskey Gallagher Abe Johnson Dyer Schlupp Waghorn (4-4-2)
nickelbyfox Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Subs: Weale Bamba Konchesky King Dyer Waghorn Nugent Agreed this seems a good selection, as really think Johnson could be a key asset this season if he can find some form!
