hmm after that performance where is "East Stand Seagull"?

All week she was saying we're just a team with money and that we will get showed up etc and now after we won no sign of her

Got to love people like her who come on then after the game is over, never hear from them again

Really enjoyed today's game. Bamba looks like an absolute nightmare to play against sometimes, arms and legs everywhere but never seems to commit the foul, kochesky looked up for it today as well. Mills won a lot of headers, starting to feel more confident with him.

Vassell looked so sharp, fernandes is like having 2 players sometimes and I think once beckford gets one, he'll get loads. Kasper did **** all and I still love him to bits...you would think he is a lifelong fan with that passion!

Overall I'm chuffed, i always felt confident today but didn't expect it to be so one sided

first time in a very long time i have left the stadium and thought we were brilliant for the whole match, from Kasper throught to Beckford the whole team performed well, Vassell was awesome, whole midfield looked like a really good unit, all four of the defenders played like they actually knew each other for a change, cant really think of any negatives, although i wish we could have a two goal advantage in the last couple of minutes so i dont bite my nails so much! :chant::scarf::appl:

I did promise I'd bore everyone to tears with a comment on our high pressing game today.

Basically it was clear from the outset that Sven had identified that Brighton liked to build from the back. As a result the forwards were instructed to make sure that whenever Ankergren had the ball, rather than running like a headless chicken to close him down, as the fans would demand, we maintained a rigid shape up front which meant that none of their defenders had space in which they could receive the ball.

Two examples stood out for me of this really working. The first was the farcical incident where Ankergren had the ball at his feet for 30-40 seconds because he simply had no option but to boot it down the pitch, which is clearly something that he did not want to do. This was because the front 3 (Beckford, Vassell and King) had all of their defenders marked; there was no way out.

This happened repeatedly throughout the second half, and more than anything, watching this unfold at goal kicks and every time Ankergren got the ball, I was blown away by the level of communication between the front 3. Beckford, Vassell and King were constantly encouraging each other to stay tight and not let the incessant delays drop their concentration, and also to make sure that as soon as the goal kick was given/backpass was made, they were in position ready to defend.

I watched Yakubu score today and thought how much we could have done with him. But then I saw the sheer effort and organisation of out front 3 and realised that that's why Sven didn't buy him. Yakubu would not have put in such a disciplined and energetic defensive job as City's 3 main attackers managed.

Watching Barcelona, the most impressive thing for me is not their passing (although admittedly beautiful on the eye) but the absolutely incessant pressing and harrying, which results in them winning possession high up the pitch. This, more than their tiki-taka, has been the blueprint for their success in my opinion. In last year's Champions League, it was what differentiated them from Arsenal.

And for 90 minutes today, and probably for the first time in the 10 years that I have been regularly watching City, I saw a Leicester team defending effectively as a unit from the front. The number of times we recovered the ball from Brighton in their final 3rd was unreal.

Sure, Bamba was man of the match in many people's eyes including mine. Vassell's most obvious tangible impact on the game was the magnificent cross fro Abe's header. But the true value of the work performed by our 3 most potent attackers was their defending. It's always been said that the best form of defence is attack, but statistics will tell you that most goals come after the ball has been won back in the opposition half. Perhaps, as City showed today, the best form of attack can be defence.

Brilliant! And spot on about Barcelona too. They gave a masterclass on closing down against United.

Anyone know where I'll be able to find a decent stream for The Football League Show? Want to see our win and Forest's defeat :)

Does Zattoo TV work for you in Denmark?

Brighton fans chanting easeh! at 0-0? :crylaugh:

but yes, a shaky start but a solid performance all round! :D

They claim they sung it towards Jobber and his drumming.

We made them look league 1 with our display today. They weren't a patch on S'hampton and I'd expect them to drop to mid-table by the end of the season.

As for ourselves it was great to see us pressing them when we didn't have the ball. There was an occasion in the 2nd half where they kept going backwards and ended up at their left corner flag with nowhere to go the pressing was that good on our part.

They were totally at a loss.

It was an extremely well disciplined effort and it was good to see Mills and Bamba put in a solid shift at the back. The hustling and bustling of CMS didn't stop there either and the midfield and front men clearly hustled as well. Beckford will cause problems for any team and they were clearly scared of him. Good. We need someone with a reputation and comparing his display with CMS is akin to comparing chalk and cheese. Different gravy he was.

Loved it. Hopefully this can continue and we can push on from here against the so-called "top teams" in the next few games.

Evening all.

Naturally I am a little less impressed than most after todays performance. we were still horribly week in defense on occassion and the midfield was still, as a unit, not great.

So, another game another formation, pretty much a 'flat' 4-4-2, a suggestion I made earlier in the week, for I think obvious reasons. So did it work?

To my mind it was very successful down our right, with Peltier and Abe getting up and down as a unit in a very impressive manner, have they been practising? On the other flank it was a very different story, Fernandes looked completely at a loss wide left but his boundless energy and a very solid game from Konchesky pretty much held things together.

With the threat from the flanks reduced to more acceptable levels the center back pairing looked more solid than usual, Mills played his best game so far even though it was still a fair way short of what he is capable and Bamba was, once again, exceptional. Despite the improvement we still managed to give CMS two clear sights on goal and on another day these could well have cost us.

Center midfield was still pretty average, Wellens had the sort of game that gives his critics all the ammunition they need and King, decent enough in defence, really did little in terms of playing in the front men. Despite mediocre service Beckford never stopped working the centerbacks, giving Vassell space to run at the gaps, a fine performance from the pair of them. In addition the both worked hard defending from the front, denying Brighton the time and space to put together their passing game.

In terms of our setup and organisation i thought we were better than we have been, still a lot to work on in my opinion as we could so very easily have lost two, maybe three goals, but still it was a step forward. Overall I think we won the game because we had the better players, team work though much improved, is still not good enough but today a good number of our players put in good performances and did so over most of the 90 minutes.

Great result, decent performance against the form team of the division even if they were not at their best, not as carried away as some but pretty pleased overall.

Great team performance, glad I took time out of packing to go to this.

The Peltier goal, I just don't understand - if the ref has played advantage then why has he pulled it back and if he hasn't, why? The ball was breaking to Pelts, in acres of space, as Vassell was brought down.

As for their red, very harsh - he could easily have gone (like several others) for two bookings from persistent fouling on Beckford and Vassell but the handball, there's no way in my mind that that can be intentional. Free-kick maybe, but a booking - never and I'd be absolutely fuming if that sort of thing was to be given against us.

As for Brighton - On that performance I can't see why they were top coming into the match, very average indeed.

And the BBC, TFLS seems to have some terrible bias in the coverage, we were far better, created more chances but if you were to watch just those highlights on TFLS you'd think Brighton dominated and we just held on and nicked the win, far from the truth.

I much prefer the extended one on the website in the middle of the week, far more balanced and comprehensive.

Great team performance...

4-4-2 works for us SVEN! don't change it, Mills was better but please stop lumping it, just pass the ball to someone to stop the long balls! The Reading fans said he would do that and he's doing it, Sven needs to tell him to cut it out..UNLESS needed

Happy though i really hope this is the turning of the corner!
