Babylon Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Arrrrrrrrrgh... what a nice send off on holiday. Two weeks in the sun and Thracian is even happy. Thanks City, still a work in progress but the basics were a lot better today. Adios amigos.
ScouseFox Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Two more points. Our pressing and tempo were superb. We harried and hassled Brighton and you could tell they wanted time on the ball to play their game. And they were dirty, very dirty. There was one moment when Beckford went down the centre of the pitch second half and their midfielder hacked him two footed from behind after he'd played the ball. Lucky to only get a yellow. And Ankegran (sp) is an absolute joke. Clown.
Thracian Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 . Brighton were ok but are fighting way above their weight and Southampton are a much better team I think it's more a case of us neutralising Brighton's threat so well. For most teams, Southampton included, just stopping CMS will be an achievement. Imagine marking the bloke. Your mind would be inside-out by the end. I was a little concerned first 10 minutes, espectially the way we were squandering possession and allowing easy crosses. But after that, City worked so hard to cut supply lines for Brighton and, by keeping the ball so well, they made it harder still for the visitors who finished well drained of energy, hence the succession of fouls whenever we threatened to break at pace.

Bob Weasel Fox Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Very Pleased to find out we had won 1-0 as i was at work until gone 5pm, did we play well? Come on you Foxes
The Year Of The Fox Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 1st home clean sheet since November apparently?
accessory Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Anyone see the penalty shout near the end? Looked from the Kop like LuaLua had a fair case. But Brighton had a few decisions go their way during the game (including Peltier's ludicrously disallowed goal) and couldn't complain about the result. We looked a lttle shaky during the first 20 minutes. However, once the players started to make their superior quality tell, Kasper was rarely troubled. I think he only had one serious save to make in the whole match. The clean sheet was just as important as the result; especially with tough away trips to Cardiff and Middlesbrough looming. Bamba was immense today and had arguably his best game for City to date. Mills was also dominant in the air and made vital challenges particularly in the closing stages. This side isn't yet quite the finished article. King was again anonymous for long spells, Beckford didn't quite fire on all cylinders, and one or two players still have notable distribution issues. Nevetheless, we remain in touch with the leading pack. If we're still the same distance (or maybe less) from them in a fortnight's time, then even I may be forced to conced that Sven is making progress with this squad..

LestaFox92 Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Dont get excited son you wont be apart of it

I need to go and have myself a lay down.
MC Prussian Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 [/b] I need to go and have myself a lay down. Surreal doesn't even come close to describe it. Love is in the air.
5waller5 Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Ooh I dunno, defence sounded pretty shoddy a bit too often... "sounded" It was rock solid, we won't face a quicker pairing of centre forwards all season and we marked them out of the game .... In fact Bamba's just asking CMS to get out of his pocket now as it's stretching his best trousers!

If we're still the same distance (or maybe less) from them in a fortnight's time, then even I may be forced to conced that Sven is making progress with this squad.. Yeah, definitely wasn't a penalty. Thought Pantsil was going to take him down but he managed to get a foot round and get the ball. Just. Happy with the win, and hopefully we'll start building some momentum (5 unbeaten now is it?), but I don't think it was as convincing as it could have been. The first 20 minutes in particular we were getting pulled around with their passing but eventually we got our shape, stopped them playing out from the back and competed a bit better. The reason I say it was a little unconvincing is that towards the end we looked a little nervy and didn't look like we were ever really pushing too hard for the second. It's all very well holding onto the 1-0 win against a decent Brighton side but if that's the approach every time then we'll pay for it on occassions against teams that have more than just the one approach to attacking. I thought we looked a little tired towards the end as well, as I did at Barnsley and Forest come to think of it. Are we as fit as we could/should be? Thought Abe, Bamba, Vassel and King were top notch. MOTM to Yuki I think, never imagined he'd pop up with a headed goal! Mills was a lot better than he has been, good in the air but passing still a little suspect. Suppose we'll just have to live with that. One other thing of note: we're picking up a few too many stupid bookings. Fernandes' booking today was nonsensical and meant that one of our most combative players was needlessly on a tightrope for 70+ minutes. With a ref as poor as today's that's not the best situation to be in. The decision for Peltier's goal was a disgrace and his consistent ineptness was appaling. It's a good job we got the win and aren't talking about the decision having cost us as it might have done.
brockmyster Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Good team performance, Bamba and Mills were rocks today hopefully the start of Mills justifying his pricetag. Peltier showed his potential today and as a whole unit the defence just looke so much better than it has done at times this year. Bring on those sheep shaggers
Bert Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 A little thing I put on twitter earlier - We've only kept a clean sheet when Peltier has gone off injured this season.
Narborough_fox Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Was sat in front of Bernie today, almost didn't make it to the end of the match

Dicko Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Great to see us get a clean sheet and we played well and worked hard for it. I thought the back 5 were all excellent, and a clean sheet will do them the world of good. The midfield, while a little narrow admittedly, pressured the opposition well and look as though they are beginning to understand how each other plays and where they need to be. Vassell worked his nuts off up front and deserved a goal towards the end. Beckford looks class. He isn't going to bust a gut tracking back and he generally doesn't look interested until he gets the ball around the area, but he really does come alive then. He'll frustrate a lot of our fans I think, but he'll also win us a fair few games. Top marks to Sven as well tactically. He knew that Brighton like to build from the back, so he pushed Vassell and Beckford right up on their fullbacks at goalkicks etc and forced them to bang it long, where Mills and Bamba were solid in the air and winning back possession for us. Good result against a good side. Roll on next Saturday (not that arsed about Weds!).
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Brilliant performance, met some Brighton fans before the game and they even said we will probably win also found out that their stadium is in the middle of nowhere! But anyway fully deserved 3 points, our season starts now
21st Century Fox Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 I can't entirely see how we've missed out on CMS, for the money we'd have paid his shelf life would have been fairly short if we were to get promoted. Judging by how he got shut out by Bamba today he wouldn't have many chances in the Premiership. I suppose the outlay may have been worth it for a seasons worth of goals to get us up but I think Beckford will be better value for money once he's settled and hitting his stride.
