O'neill a no no

I don't think that, but surely we are being naive to think they've not heard something similar already in private?

I would be being naive is that's what I thought yes, but I don't.

My top three preferences

1) Lee Clark

2) Simon Grayson

3) Billy Davies

Clark and Grayson have allready said they aint interested

Re O'Neil to #lcfc - not looking good. @guardian_sport reporting he's said no. I've been calling for days, unsurprisingly goes to voicemail

What do you expect Stringer?

Yet you would think he would just do that himself being as he is not 12. I am not saying he is coming but without a direct link to him the reports are about as accurate as the Belfry story.

When I said 'friends' in single quotes I was hinting that the 'friends' are fictional because the source is MoN himself... As if a newspaper hasn't contacted MoN himself or his agent didn't leak this to the media.

2nd in league one... 3 points behind Charlton (Chris Powell), 2 points ahead of Sheffield Wednesday (Gary Megson), 4 points ahead of Notts County (Martin Allen).

We really want someone who gets their team 2 and 4 points ahead of Megson and Allen in league one?

I think people are being blinded by this 40 game headline.

I tend to agree with you there but if you look at where we are in the league and the managers of clubs above us or just behind us, it doesn't fill me with much confidence either.

I agree Babs, I'd not take the risk on Clark, it seems needless given the money and expectation our board has.

I just hope they know what they are doing, for me they've got to go on the charm offensive for Sparky or Di Matteo. Sparky because he's done well everywhere he's been and Di Matteo because he is a progressive manager who plays very good football, has cut his teeth at a lower level and he's little bit chinese like our owners. (that last bit is a joke by the way before I get lynched by the anoraks on here)

NO... Clark said he was not applying, two very very different things. Read the words coming out of the mans mouth and not the headlines.

Davies and Di Matteo fit the criteria they have set, Hughes doesn't but has a decent record. I think one of the three would be my preferred choice.

O'Neill would not talk to the papers so they no nothing if he had refused the job it would be on a yellow strip going along the bottom of ssn! There just stiring things up.

Not one paper has a quote from O'Neill, and they have all quoted the same line that "top" said which was the first thing we heard him say on sky, and we hadn't even spoken to O'Neill then. Some one has found out we held talks with him at some point, Martin will not make any decision without mulling it over, I don't think he will come but I won't abandon all hope untill they have a quote from O'Neill himself.

I really want to believe that but Martin's never been media friendly, has he?

I tend to agree with you. I have a feeling that we may well be better off with a 'tough cookie' in the job.

Its for this reason I'd go with Hughes.. He has lots of experience, including at International level and don't take any grief. I couldnt see him continuing to play any of the lads if they werent performing.

Hughes is my shout..although somebody yesterday 'with contacts?' said that Hughes wasnt coming.

Then again, after last night I have no idea who or what to believe.

I'm gonna sit back and wait as I don't profess to have a clue about who may or may not be coming..

But Hughes would be my man.

I think people are reading too much in to the ' know's the league ' guff, if Hughes or another high calibre manager becomes available then they'd be all over them. Davies would underwhelm me, but I have no doubt he'd do ok here. He makes my skin crawl though, but so does Warnock and we've lived to regret not appointing him, so who knows. I just want this over with by the weekend, we need to start taking bodies.

Personally I still think there's a chance of him coming, because the story of him rejecting job isn't confirmed, also the papers also said a day ago he had a 48hour deadline to decide what turned out to be BS.

As I understand it Davies has been close to being our manager on a couple of occasions.

I have friends who are derby fans and he nearly joined us despite derby getting promoted but had a change of heart. Instead we got Allen. Then we were supposedly were waiting for him to get the sack when we appointed holloway. But mm lost patience. Then a few days later Davies got the sack.

He would be a decent choice, but not great at spending money. The current squad doesnt need many players. Just some organisation and direction. Davies would provide that.

Nobody knows anything just yet I don't think, so i'm calm in that respect. But i'd like to think Hughes will be considered and he's woprked with a few of the lads before, whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is debatable. Schmeichel, Fernandes, Vassell and Johnson have all been overlooked by Sparky but that might be a good thing, they'll have a point to prove and he is a motivator.

To be fair i wouldnt mind him if we was going to end up with Holloway/jones/clark etc but i dont think he would leave celitc.

He isn't a bad manager SPL is roughly championship standard and he has a win percentage of 77.42%, wouldn't get any grief this side of the border

I think Lennon has his own personal mission with celitc like not backing down to those bastards who keep giving him and his family hassle and trying to win the league.

good observation Ric and I wasnt aware of that... I agree hes a motivator but my choice of Hughes is based more on the fact that he's a disciplinarian.. I wouldnt be at all surprised if he transfer listed those players he felt werent putting in the effort and would not care that he had done.

I have a feeling (and thats all it is..) that this squad had become too pally pally with Sven.. Hughes wouldnt allow this to happen.. at least I dont think he would.

Thats why he'd be my first choice

Clark - just a bit too early for him to make such a big jump IMO

Davies - can be more moody than Beckford...!

So Hughes it is, for me

Fair enough would be an option for me if we fail to get some of our choices.

Bang on with all of that. If Hughes doesn't fancy it, then Di Matteo all day long for me.

Lennon would be a nostalgic choice and I loved the bloke as a player, but he's hardly set the world alight at Parkhead.

First thing Hughes did was drop Fernandes, I don't think he would be too pleased to see him again haha! These next fees days will be interesting
