Soar Fox Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 I was in a box for todays game and the bloke who owns the box was talking to a member of staff. From the sound of the conversation it sounded like Nigel Pearson will be appointed Monday or Tuesday and that they were waiting for the international break.
Happy Fox Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Are you insane. You don't know he was even interested, he may well have just said no and that was the end of it. And nobody guarantees promotion. You are in right in that sense but MON would do a better job than Pearson, Even Billy Davies I would prefer to NP no offense Nigel.
Kitchandro Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 I am not sure that even MON would have the time to get this team playing together quickly enough to catch the top 2 who are averaging practically 2 points a game. Play Offs is the best we can hope for I'm afraid. There are a few players that are going to have to be sacrificed too as we need to drastically improve in midfield. NP or MON, the only two linked that I think can turn our season around. MON should gain instant respect because of his stature in the game and NP is known and trusted by a lot of the players still at the club. You might be right, but tbh I just want to see us challenging for it. To settle for the play-offs at this stage is just so depressing. I'm not expecting the new manager to take us up automatically, it does look very unlikely at the moment, but there's still about 30 games left, there's still time for us to go on a great run and West Ham/Southampton to go on a poor one. I just want to see a team good enough to get in the top 2, even if we don't quite make up the gap, I want us to play exciting, winning football with confidence. If we really make them fend us off I'll be happy enough. Of course if we finish 6th and go up through an own goal I'll be delighed. But you know what I'm saying. Under Pearson I think we might get in the play-offs but under O'Neill or even Davies I think we might at least challenge for the top 2.

Probably due to the fact that he is a horrible bast**d of a manager very much like Warnock but would certainly do a job here.
Libertine Dream Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 I'm being put off the idea of Pearson. He was great for us but it is true that we are a different proposition now. Is the job too big for him? Is it the kind of job he would succeed in? Getting a team into the play-offs when there was no expectation is one thing, getting an under pressure side challenging for the top 2 is another matter. Will he be able to adapt his style of football? He needs to hit the ground running. If we lose many more games in the next couple of months we'll be really up against it. The team needs to play a completely different style of football to that which we played under Sven and Pearson. Flowing, pacey, attacking football is not a desire but a necessity. The style of football we played under Pearson wasn't terrible (most of the time) but it was a bit one dimensional. Can he get us playing the kind of stuff Swansea, Norwich, QPR, Southampton, etc have played in this league? If we have any hopes of the top 2 (and I appreciate many don't) then that is a must. My first choice is now Billy Davies. Forest played with pace and as a team. These are our 2 main weaknesses. We are just a group of slow individuals, the strikers have pace (apart from Howard) but this is not very helpful when we need to create chances for them, as teams rarely play a high line against us. We need pace out wide and whether we have that or not, we need to start playing as a unit, fighting for each other, believing in the manager and knowing what to do when they get the ball. This is the impressaion I got from Davies' Forest. Yes this did happen the season before last when they should have gone up with Newcastle and West Brom but as the season went on his players tired and they started to struggle. Then last season when they came to us they played slow, drab football with Adebola up front on his own to begin with. From the start they looked to waste time. He plays decent football but watching Hull on FLS they seemed to have a spark yesterday without a goalscorer. Davies had money at Forest, at the time spent the record for a championship team, but didn't use it to great effect and last year decided to moan about his lack of backing, when he'd had plenty of money in previous seasons and high cost loans. That's why I wouldn't want him. NP isn't my first, second or third choice but I see no harm in his appointment at least you know what to expect. MON, Solskjaer and Di Matteo were my choices (Adkins would have put me in dreamland, should have had him when Sousa came) but I think Pearson could achieve something and I hope some of the shorter minded people are proven wring in their disregard for his abilities and he emulates Lambert in many ways. Remember how bad Rodgers was at Reading yet making a massive success of it at Swansea.
sdb Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 I really want NP back. The more I think about it, the more I cherish (if that's not too gay) his time here. Since MO'N, he's the only man to have had this club go places. Always on the up, passionate players (I know people take the piss about 'passhhon!!', but to be fair, tell me you'd prefer the tame shit we serve up most weeks at the moment), and a real sense of unity. Before him we were shit, since him we've been shit. When he was here we nearly secured 2 promotions on the bounce. The football wasn't the best, but it wasn't awful, and we won, and never gave up the ghost. I was outraged we got rid of him and the owners should hang their heads in shame. At least they're man enough to admit the mistake now. I really want him back, he has unfinished business here. Not that we deserve him, mind. Please come back NP. x

Remember how bad Rodgers was at Reading yet making a massive success of it at Swansea. I just hope Pearson is capable of getting us playing the football that Lambert has been getting his team to play though. Norwich were exceptional against us last season, certainly with the ball anyway. WHilst we did play very well at times under Pearson, were never quite that expansive. Maybe with more money and better players we could be, but he must have the attitude to play a positive attacking passing game and instill it early on. Granted Forest weren't as good last season, but considering where they were before Davies took over, he did really well to get them where they were. He also did a similar job with Derby and Preston. I think all of those were punching above their weight, much like Pearson was with us. Davies' teams have continued to finish above us that's for sure. I would have loved MON or Di Matteo but they've never looked anymore than a pipe dream.
RowlattsFox Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Not related to Pearson, but I didn't want to start a new thread for it as its just my opinion rather than a link. But what about an approach for Roberto Martinez, I know he turned down Villa in the summer so maybe its unlikely but maybe his opinion has changed considering the position of his Wigan side. Think he'd be a decent manager with some backing and without losing his best players.

I do like him but I think he still feels he owes it to Wigan to see it through, at least til the end of this season. That is, unless he is sacked.
LukeyZade Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Davies did a gd job at forest with s*it players. What can he do with ours. and he got into the players like a proper manager should. Moaner? Shows he gives a s*it dont it? we need a leader and a disciplined manager he suits it most at min

Beaze Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Agreed - don't really understand the negativity towards him. Besides, I've had a fiver on him and MON in the last couple of weeks - and that's what really matters!
Langston Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 People are honestly turning their noses up at a man who got us playing winning football with not all that much to spend? That brought pride back to our club, and that's taking Hull in the right direction after they could've easily fallen away following their relegation into this division? Give me some kind of strength, please.
Guest Bilo Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 There you go Nige if you're struggling for a template. You're welcome.

wurmer Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Some people will never be pleased mate! They should piss off and support Man U, Chelski or Man City....
He's not bald Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Wont be doing this week what I did last week and checking for updates every 5 mins, I'm positive our so called owners have completely lost the plot and will probably end up giving Peter Taylor another chance and then maybe David Pleat as DOF and a couple of million might even tempt Akinbiyi and De Vries back!
Foxhateram Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Some people will never be pleased mate! Never wanted him gone in the first place. The bloke was building something here, something special then Sousa undid it all. Sven has slowly realised that NP's men are the ones that can take this team forward, and our team has not looked too different since his departure in fairness. The best bit is that NP can actually take on this team knowing most of the players, as the core of the squad are his men from before anyway. I think he has unfinished business here and will make this team hard to beat, which is exactly what we need right now. Nigel Pearson's blue and white army!!!!
DanTheFox07 Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Id be happy to take pearson back! arguably we might not have still been in this division if we had not sacked him to put sousa in charge!!
Happy Fox Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 I don't know what to think of Pearson can he emulate his past successes here, all I will say is he will undoubtedly get the players functioning as a unit.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Am i the only fan who feels really disapointed with the names being mentioned with the club we all love? Surely we arent that much of a tin pot club that we only attract poor options?

What do you expect the only high caliber appointment would be MON but that is not happening, NP will do a sufficient job.
Salieri Posted 6 November 2011 Posted 6 November 2011 Whether Nige is the right man or best man for the job is debatable but one thing is for sure for me, that he deserves a chance to prove that he can take us to the next level. He was shafted last time around, if he fails this time due to results then fair enough but he at least has earnt the right to see if he can finish what he started. If he gets the gig i'll be delighted for him and behind him 100%.
