Leicester plan ANOTHER signing spree

Published 22:30 30/11/11

Nigel Pearson has been promised wads of cash for the New Year as ambitious Leicester prepare for another mega spending spree.

New boss Pearson will be assured of substantial funds next month to build a squad capable of reaching the Premier League.

Pearson’s predecessor, Sven Goran Eriksson, forked out £12million on players in the summer, and chairman Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn has promised to keep coughing up the dough.

“The ambition is still the same. We want promotion," he said. "I will support him [Pearson] in every way we can to get us there.

“He must see how the players are and the squad we have now. Then we will talk to him later on and discuss more about the future.

“I have always said I will choose the manager who can take the team to the Premier League and I believe he can do that.”

Pearson, who managed Leicester from 2008-2010, has guided the Foxes to seven points from his first three games since returning to the club following a spell in charge at Hull.

As the Foxes prepare to spend, two players are set to leave after the sacking of Eriksson last month.

Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson is keen to terminate a loan agreement which runs until the end of the season, while fellow midfielder Gelson Fernandes wants to return to French side Saint-Etienne.

Johnson has only made three Championship starts for the club, while Fernandes has not started a single match since Eriksson was axed.

Dont mind them two leaving, Pearson with financial backing can recruit much better than Sven IMO

Don't want the two stated to leave, far worse players in the squad but nice to know we may see a new winger or two.

I think there heads turned when Sven left, they probably don't want to be here anymore so I'd rather we get rid and like you say get a couple of wingers in!

I think the squad is pretty much there in terms of being good enough for promotion. A wide midfield player is needed and maybe cover at right back as Pantsil isn't good enough imo.

As for Johnson, I never rated him anyway. Shame about Fernandes though. But we have easily enough cover at central midfield.

the quotes are what was said when pearson took the job so nothing really new, would hazard a guess the players leaving is just paper talk also.

fernandes came on last night. albeit late but still.....

Cover at LB & a RW we're desperate for & there is a few positions would could strengthen like LB, LW cover at RB if Paintsil wants out etc...

We have quite a few players who could leave especially if they all want a slice of the matchday experience & will start grumbling if they don't get it, Johnson has been a failed experiment, better off gone IMO. Think Fernandes has a part to play if he wants it, we'll have to see if he does though.

I don't give a toss about any individual. Pearson needs to finish January with a squad of players who want to wear the shirt and who have the ability and atitude to deserve it.

I've nothing to say about Fernandes and Johnson because they've both done so little here I doubt I'd recognise them in the street let alone remember anything they've done for the club on match days.

My guess is that both wil be fast forgotten. But, as in the search for the Holy Grail I just hope Pearson "chooses wisely" in spending the Thais' money. It is so easy to go wrong when you've money to spend in abundance - yet the reality is that every new signing needs to give us something on top of what we already have.

Thankfully Pearson should know where our shortcomings lie and which areas of the team need strengthening most.

Even though we're sixth in the table most fans would surely agree that we've not done our spending justtice so far.

But I'll be amazed if we don't become a truly formidable outfit in the New Year.

Six-one in three games is the sort of reading I enjoy - it's so Southampton-like.

Happy Days!.

How would they know any of this

Are they tracking Thai bank movements the were busy in summer?

Completely made up, cheap journalism.

Why would Gelson have got a run out if he was intent on leaving last night?

So many holes

Hope the money part is true tho, but thats what was said for Sven's January, and that didn't turn out to be a major spree.

I really hate newspapers sometimes, nothing quoted says anything about spending lots of money and actually looking to buy anyone, but the article is written in such a way that it looks like we are loaded and want to spend lots of money.

It is not a clever thing to have other clubs reading things like that when we make an offer for one of their players, January transfers are always inflated, this kinda stuff is just going to make other clubs increase their demands. :frusty:

Nigel with money to spend is a mouth watering prospect. Not sure we will be linked with as many "big name" signings as we were whilst Sven was hear but i think Nigel knows the sort of players he wants and will be able to make us a formidable opponent.

They are loan signings and if theyre not 100% in it then regardless of their ability they wont have the right mental attitude for a team gaining promotion. We still have danns, king, wellens and the versitile abe which is more than enough. All are good enough to get us up there in this league under the right guidance. backup we have moussa and oakley, one CM i would love to see here would be daniel buttercup, think he would be a great addition. Dyer, Gallagher, Danns (who can also do the job) offer us the wider options, all can do slightly different things i do think we can strengthen here, however with amount of playing time dyer and hally are getting they will do a good job when theyve fully got their eye in so we dont need any dross. Kebe or Boyd from peterborough would be good, im sure nigel has one or two in mind.

I think if we want more strikers/defenders then others in the particular area need to be sold/youngsters loaned. Nigel is aware of what the owners expect so he wont be taking any chances with for the first team, im expecting good experianced signings who will come in and make a difference. with the money probably available and maybe only the need for 1-3 players we could sign some real quality if theyd want to come to us (thinking of some prem players, none in mind though). Dont need no overhaul and all the gelling nonsense again

Isn't Johnson on quite a decent premiership wage compared to the rest of the squad? or have I been playing too much football manager? if he is surely its not good for the morale of the team if he is not fit enough to start yet earning more than most players so if this is true I would welcome a loan termination. As for Fernandes we have Wellens, Abe and Bamba who can play in his position so can't see any major loss either

Not bothered about the two of them, we've got better players in the squad and enough cover where they are. Think it will be a very quiet window with only a couple of new faces coming in.

Two wingers and maybe a striker (not essential) will do nicely. Don't want to unsettle the squad too much as I think NP has already shown he can get more out of the players already here than Sven ever did. Not sure what he's like on a regular basis but Zaha from palace had a cracking game last night

If Fernandes and Johnson go then we'll need 2 new wingers, a central midfielder and a target man.

Spot on...

If possible, I'd keep Fernandes, as he's probably the best defensive midfielder we have. Probably doesn't help being played out wide. As for Johnson, I'd let him go back, hasn't looked match fit since he has been here.
