JimmyB Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 The missus is currently travelling to Hull with Fox travel and has just text saying Schlupp has gone to join Chrissy P at Charlton. I've asked for more details and will post as soon as I hear anything. Could be BS, but If true, slightly disappointing for me. Although he could get plenty of game time there depending on the extent of Kermorgants injury..
SMX11 Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 He needs first team games and if it is true then I would welcome it. Not sure it would happen until Waggy comes back though.

sphericalfox Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Does Charlton have a special loan window of their own?
Guest MattP Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Does Charlton have a special loan window of their own? Exactly what I thought!
wellyfox Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Does Charlton have a special loan window of their own? Beat me to it you can get an emergency loan but have to apply the the league I think. But they only normally let keepers move not fwd's

Finnegan Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Be nice if there's some truth in it and he goes in January. I'm sure there'll be a few cynics sneering that Pearson's not giving him a chance but I think it's pretty evident that Schlupp's going to be limited to mostly sub appearances with Nugent and Beckford in the squad. Charlton are high flying, have a good coach and are playing at a good level. If they're eyeing him up to start games then it'd be a fantastic half a season for him.

Was going to follow up with this sentiment exactly. I might suggest that Sven would have likely done the same with Schlupp. Lets hope a recall clause will be in there should we get caught short near the end of the season.
RyanB89 Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 I hope not, im not convinced he will get that many games down there
sdb Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 I think he's good enough to make a positive impact on our own season if i'm honest.
Charl91 Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 I hope not! What if Nugent or Beckford get injured? There isn't anyone else I'd start in their place apart from Schlupp

deep blue Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 I hope not, im not convinced he will get that many games down there I think he's too good not to get games, even at Charlton; and yes, with the pitch time and the quality of coach they have, it will bring him on. Have to admit though, I'm still a little disappointed that he hasn't been more involved with us than he has this season. Can't help feeling there's even more scope for improvement amongst a set of better quality players.
smudger63 Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Once Waghorn is back from his loan to hull, Schlupp will be even further down the pecking order. While i know he is only young, he`s shown enough to suggest that he has alot of promise, but he needs games to keep progressing, and for his experience. The fact we have no regular reserve games is no good at all for him, or for a number of other squad players, for that matter! I do have a really bad feeling though, that Schlupp may well go the same way as Gradel, under Pearson.
wakeyfox01 Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Yeah, but Gradel was 20 in the League 1 season and hadn't played for us before that. Schlupp is 18 and has already played a handful of games and had a loan spell out. Don't see the comparison at all
Bryn Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 I don't understand the wariness regarding loaning young players out. It's an appropriate thing to do for him, you can't expect him to lead a promotion charge at his age, he hasn't showed the ability to suggest he's capable of doing so anyway and he needs games. A loan spell for first team football would be good for him.

I do have a really bad feeling though, that Schlupp may well go the same way as Gradel, under Pearson. Schlupp versus Waghorn? You are joking I presume! Fifteen minutes into a game Schlupp would leave Waghorn for dead and Schlupp is a far better all-round finisher, dribbler and user of the ball. This is exactly what I expected. But at least Pearson's had the decency to let the lad go and play instead of seeing his career stagnate because we've invested so much in Beckford and will doubtless be getting more strike power in come January. No complaints - 10 and 15 minute cameos or worse are no more use to Schlupp than Gradel. But I'll be surprised if he ever wants to return. If we go up, we'll need even better strikers than we've got now and if we don't and if he does well enough to help Charlton get promotion to The Championship I feel sure he'll want to stick where he's more certain to get games. Ironically there will be few who know of his ability better than Powell. To me we've wasted a big chance to develop him properly ourselves. I'm damned sure Southampton would have made more of him which is perhaps why they get so much for their starlets while we accepted so little for Gradel. We just don't see - or have sufficient faith - in the potential in our own backyard.

What chance has Pearson given him? None! And Schlupp would only be "limited" by the choice of the manager. Clearly Pearson either rates Beckford or he's being continually reminded of what he's cost. I'm undecided about the bloke. But of the games he's played so far he's only merited his place in a couple. Had Schlupp played the same way - or anyone else - i'd have been pleased to see the back of him on loan or on a rocket ship to Mars. But Beckford's record is not to be ignored and while I can see glimpses now of how he got the goals and how dangerous he can be, I still don't see him as a team player. In fact I believe he's more likely to cost us promotion than win it for us. Not because of goals he might miss - every striker misses scoring chances - but because of the chances he won't see or set up for others. Either way Schlupp could easily have been given far more match time under both Sven and Pearson but we've preferred to go for experience, and not without some beneficial effect under Pearson. It's the choice we've made and the one I expected. Time will show how wise it was. .
Charl91 Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 While I really do like Schlupp, I don't think he should be starting. We can't justify not starting Nugent, since he's been solid for us, while Beckford has a solid track record, and while has had a dubious start, is improving in confidence and quality week by week; if we don't show faith in him, it could knock that confidence. I do think he should be brought on from the bench more often instead of howard though. We saw what pace on the counter-attack did against Blackpool against tired legs!

And why should he when Nugent has been one of our best players and Beckford seems to have turned a corner in terms of his attitude and effort, the goals will soon flow for JB if he keeps it up. Or by the possibility that he isn't good enough for more than a short cameo here and there yet at this level? And you claim to not be a cynic? Beckford has so far played well under Pearson, even if the goals are still an issue. True, he hasn't been great, but neither has Schlupp and the manager will also judge them in training - is it that hard to believe that maybe Beckford is doing better in training than Schlupp? Bollocks would you, you still insist Schlupp needs to be given a chance, likewise with King. To quote an old saying "Nice guys finish last" - that selfish streak is a great trait in a striker, so long as it is honed correctly and of all the people to be able to do so, I'd back Pearson to get Beckford to apply it properly. Experience is pretty key now, we fell behind target due to a poor start and now need to get rolling as fast as possible - choosing older, wiser heads with good knowledge of the league would be a better choice in that than a bunch of raw, young pups.
Fox92 Posted 3 December 2011 Posted 3 December 2011 Best of luck if he joins.. I'm sure he will enjoy Charlton and Powell will look after him well. I am sure if we still had 7 subs, he might get on the bench. I still think he does a decent job coming off of the bench, to inject a bit of pace. Having said that, I would probably accept a loan bid if one did/or has come in, just for him to experience more match time (like he did at Brentford), especially with Charlton being top of the league I rekon he could enjoy it.
