StanSP Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 With Arsenal planning to unveil three new statues to commemorate 3 of their legends (Adams, Henry, Chapman), it got me thinking who would you lot pick if you could have 3 statues dotted around the ground in honour of the chosen players? For me, it'd be Muzzy Izzet, Steve Walsh and although not in my era, Keith Weller.

josh_baskin Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Shilton and banks, like on the photo together. Failing that Elivis Hammond.
Sampson Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 I would have: *Arthur Rowley *Arthur Chandler with 6 swans perched on it *one of Banks and Shilton holding the ball together as in that famous photo, as said above. The problem with putting players like Walsh and Izzet up is that statues are supposed to be there for all-time and you don't know if their names will last after most people who saw them are dead, as the above players' have done.
Christoph Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 inb4 over sarcastic statement naming three of leicesters worse players

Steve Walsh is widely regarded as Mr Leicester City, his name and it's association with this club should live on for a very long time.
cc_star Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Heskey & Collymore, to remind us for-evermore of what if.....
hackneyfox Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 It's a disgrace that Stoke have a statue of Banks and we don't. No other Leicester player will ever have a World Cup winners medal.
hackneyfox Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Steve Walsh is widely regarded as Mr Leicester City, his name and it's association with this club should live on for a very long time. Steve Walsh regards himself as Mr Leicester City. From all accounts he isn't a particularly pleasant individual, he was a legend at the club but who else would no of him? Don't they have to be almost household names nationally to warrant a statue?
Sampson Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Steve Walsh is widely regarded as Mr Leicester City, his name and it's association with this club should live on for a very long time. But you don't know that though. I remember Graham Cross being referred to as "Mr. Leicester City" too, but very few do anymore. I mean most people who saw Dave Gibson play would say he was a much better player than Walsh (comparing apples and oranges) and if you'd have talked about great ex-players in the 1970s and 1980s when most were still old enough to have seen him play Gibson's name would have been the first to come up, but Gibson's name hasn't lived on as much as other players' have. Walsh was a great servant to the club, but personally I think a generation or two has to pass until you really know what place they will have in the club's history. Which is why I think people like Rowley, Chandler, Banks, Shilton etc. would be much better nominees. I don't think Walsh will be known by the majority of fans 50 or even 80 years after he's finished playing as they are/will obviously be in Shilton's case.
ScouseFox Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 I'd say Lineker was more of a "Mr Leicester City" than Walsh. If you asked across the country to name a player related to Leicester, it'd probably be him.
purpleronnie Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 It would be nice to see, it might add some character to the surroundings, it needs it.

Fox92 Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Definitely Banks. A Leicester and England hero. There will probably no other player to collect a World Cup Winning Medal that has connections with Leicester/play for Leicester at the same time.
z-layrex Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Dudley Junior Campbell, Yann Kermorgant and Paulo Sousa.
Sampson Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 As said before, I think one of Banks and Shilton together holding the football as in this picture would be the best idea:
moseeds Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 As said before, I think one of Banks and Shilton together holding the football as in this picture would be the best idea: This is the single best idea I've heard all year!
artursteppe Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 O'Neill, Wellens and Gallagher! Just to give their adoring fans something to smile about. Being serious, it's difficult - Weller, Muzzy and Shilton probably.
Guest MattP Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 A statue of Steve Walsh would be pretty embarrassing to be quite frank when we have World cup winner, a world cup top scorer and man who scored 250+ goals for us being overlooked. Whilst Walsh was a great servant to the football club, the vast majority of his time here was spent in a very poor part of the league and his disciplinary record was appalling.
canadafox Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Banks and Shilton is a great idea, Arthur Chandler (club's all time leading scorer) and Gary Lineker
josh_baskin Posted 7 December 2011 Posted 7 December 2011 Can't believe nobody has yet mentioned the birch?
