If there was video evidence of these girls doing what they did to the same extent as "Tram Woman" I'm sure there'd have been a different verdict. Our judicial system is unfortunately tied down by this pesky thing called "proof." One assumes there was not enough of it to convict in this case; moreover it sounds like these girls had a fucking clever lawyer. Admittedly, if reports are accurate then that's absolutely tragic but that's not the point really, is it? They should have been send to jail just on the assault anyway.

I think that's the problem most people have, everyone knows if this is the other way round what happens. Would have made the front page of the Mercury as well.

I think my point of an 18 year old going out, getting hammered and kicking someone's head in is a better scenario and questioning whether they'd get away with it because 'they're not used to drinking alcohol'. You would hope that would be sufficient for them to be treated in a more severe manner. I think that peoples main gripe is the apparent dismissive manner/behaviour of the judge who has provided the worst possible get out clause for the 4....

Someone replied saying that there's no actual evidence against the 4 girls saying 'kill the white slag' and whatever other racial slurs they were alleged to have uttered. That's the key thing here. It's essentially just a war of words (only when it comes to the racial accusations). I'm not sticking up for them here. No way. I'm just making the point that you can't charge someone for an accusation when there is no physical evidence of it available. Two of the girls I happen to know. They deny using any racist language. They said it was a drunken brawl, and it was nothing to do with her being white. Im not sure how much truth there is in that, but I digress. Drunken fights happens every weekend. Considering the damage been done, Im not sure I understand what people want here? I think we all agree they should be done for assault. And if the racism can be proved, then that too.

Its a bit of nice gossip for the elderly ladies and their pals during tea, but beyond that, people dont care. Its not the first time Somali girls get drunk off their tits starting street brawls and its certainly won't be the last time, I can assure you. The difference is this time the papers got hold of a story and they got scrutinised.
