sg6 Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 How did we not win that? The balls into Nugent and Beckford were simply not good enough. Midfield were atrocious in the the second half, desperately need wide palyers that can take on players and have a decent final ball!! King's touch was awful and he was way too weak, Fernandes in for Doncaster next week.
Happy Fox Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Why is NP so reluctantly starting the same midfield they are not good enough at all, I was hoping he would change things but a) we don't have the personnel, b) He is playing things safe c) come January he will overhaul our shit excuse of a midfield.
Narborough_fox Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Poor. As the person behind me said. We were dangerous in the first 25 - 30 minutes when Dyer was down the left but then we changed it around and looked lacklustre. It was all to narrow and a winger should be right on the bye-line. It was too narrow. Very much like a "Sven" performance.
Jace Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 I think we need to drop down to league 1 again so we can learn how to win against crap opposition again and then go from there
Happy Fox Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 In three words- not clinical enough. A game we should be winning, especially if we want a shot at the performance- and results like this is what separates the top few from the rest. Absolutely dominant in the first 15-20 minutes, and should've found a goal with all our possession and constant battering of them. But as always, we lacked the ability to find a goal, no one in the right position, and we let them get back into it. Again, the first 15 minutes of the second half we are dominant and do get a goal. After the goal, we are confident and they are shaky. In periods like that we should be killing the game and getting another goal, but we are just not clinical enough unfortunately- and we must improve and quick. Today, Southampton managed to scrape a point at the end of the game in which they were losing. We couldn't find the crucial goal in a game which we were dominating- that's why they're top of the league. We must find wingers in January. Lloyd Dyer is absolutely awful, and shown that again today. Looks lost on the pitch, no positional sense at all, and doesn't have a football brain. When he has the ball at his feet, you'd expect him to take the man on with his pace but fails to do this as he is too predictable. And moreover, his final ball is absolutely appalling- cannot cross to save his life! So many times our attacks break down due to this. Kasper Schmeichel- definitely one of the buys of the summer. Made a few good stops- no fault of his the goal- although I thought he would save it as he's made a couple of blinders in the past few games! I am seriously worried that if we don't go up this season, he will go to a Premiership club. He will it is the fact of life sadly
Guest nathan. Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Today just emphasized how weak our midfeild is no penetration at all Konchesky was more productive with the ball than Wellens and King put together. Thank god its nearly January

Leicester are going nowhere with this present midfield, although we have so many on the books none are good enough to get us out of this league
Kitchandro Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Tragic result really. Dominated the game but the goal return was pathetic. We should have had in the first half really. No idea how we didn't win. Too many mistakes I suppose, both in the final 3rd and at the back. And now bloody Barnsley are above us. I bet Hull are taking the piss too for Christ sake. Feel like crap.
wattolcfc Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Decent enough performance first half, in fact I'd say it was entertaining. As soon as we scored we just sat back and let posh come on to us, no closing down and terrible marking for the goal. How Wellens is in the team, let alone made captain baffles me. King did nothing at all and dyer is too predictable. How Beckford missed that header is beyond me and 2 in 14 is not looking good for our summer panic buy. Pearson knows what he needs and will sort it out, I am confident of that.
MC Prussian Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Leicester are going nowhere with this present midfield, although we have so many on the books none are good enough to get us out of this league Where's Michael Johnson when you need him?

I noticed, about mid way through the second half, Pearson tearing strips off Beckford when he failed to track back and challenge their midfielder. A couple of minutes later he was taken off. I think Pearson knows that Beckford aint the answer. I expect him to sign a striker in January.
Happy Fox Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Leicester are going nowhere with this present midfield, although we have so many on the books none are good enough to get us out of this league That was the point I was making. From NP's point of view he cannot change things because our alternatives in reserve are no better therefore he playing things safe and come January he will overhaul our midfield and get the crap performers out.
Guest ttfn Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Scousefox I completely disagree with you about Beckford. Firstly, he certainly doesn't appear to be constantly on the move, although I could be wrong. Secondly, whenever I see him run off the ball, 9 tomes out of 10 it's the wrong run. A great example today was when Posh had a corner and we had a counter-attack. The ball was with Danns on the right and Beckford, in a central position near the half-way line, ran left. This led to Danns launching an absurd 60 yard crossfield pass and the move was dead. Beckford should be running the channels ahead of the ball. Instead, time and again he is running into positions he can never realistically exPect to receive the ball. Maybe it's a lack of confidence, but I've said from the start I don't think he's good enough. It's not a popular view and I hope I'm proven wrong but it's looking increasingly like we've signed a prolific League One striker who isn't going to hack it at this level. And before anyone brings up his (mediocre) Premier League record, history is littered with players with decent top-flight reputations dropping down a level and failing to cut the mustard. All this said, Beckford was far from our weak link today so it seems a bit stupid to have this in the post-match thread. It's more to show that other views are available than ScouseFox's. Funny how differently people see the game...
accessory Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Abe and Fernandes at least have basic technical skills and know how to control and pass a football. That's more than can be said for any of the midfielders on show today. Another shameful home performance, capped off by pub player Lee Tomlin grabbing their equaliser. I bet that will impress his neighbours on the Saff.
accessory Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 That was the point I was making. From NP's point of view he cannot change things because our alternatives in reserve are no better therefore he playing things safe and come January he will overhaul our midfield and get the crap performers out. This is the manager who signed Wellens and Gallagher last time he was here. I have little confidence that he will make any better decisions this time around.
old koppite Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 The comments on here are about the midfield are spot on. I watched our game on the live stream, and just watched first half of barnsley. I know Barnsley are on a good run, but all of their midfield players are playing with much more energy than our lot. Ok, some might say might say B's young 'uns are a bit like headless chickens at times, and they might not look as "classy" on the ball but they look much more like they will make something happen. I don't see NP having much more patience with things as they are - if there is money in Jan then sure he'll get some new central midfield.
Dylan Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 This is the manager who signed Wellens and Gallagher last time he was here. I have little confidence that he will make any better decisions this time around. Signed them on a limited budget, and did a job for us for what we had. Now he has a bigger budget- meaning more options to bring what he wants.
Fox92 Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 There are too many players that are not good enough, such as Dyer and Gallagher. Pearson has done a good thing changing to 4-4-2 but, I really hope, he is planning on replacing Dyer and Gallagher. The whole midfield is poor though, I mean, King is not fully commited in tackles and rarely wins the ball. I honestly think we need a brand new midfield, and I think we can get it as well. Nugent and Beckford are going to have no impact when we play long balls constantly. And I prefer St. Ledger over Mills. I think Konchesky, Peltier and Kasper were good today. That is about it.
Kitchandro Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Where's Michael Johnson when you need him? I'm not sure he's the answer either tbh. We need at least one midfielder in the transfer window, I don't care how many central midfielders we've got, we need one who can dribble and really create with individual skill. And a winger. I don't really blame Pearson for today, he picked the team I would have picked, we battered them for most of it, conceded a sloppy goal, he made the substitutions I would have made, but we just weren't good enough to score more than one for whatever reason. It needs sorting out in the transfer window, as much as it pains me to say it.
funkyrobot Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 If Wellens isn't dropped next game then we serious questions about favoritism, i can't remember the last time he had a decent game. If you think wellens needs dropping after today's game then what about king? He had absolutely no influence on the game, as always he trotted around the pitch whilst the game simply passed him by. It's not that he does a lot of work that goes unnoticed like Thracian and others argue. The fact is unless he sniffs a goalscoring chance, he does fcuk all.
Corky Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Only got ourselves to blame for not winning the game. The Posh fans and players seemed ecstatic with the result- no wonder, they should've been buried before the break. Got the goal eventually and didn't capitalise, conceding a soft equaliser, and we had no spark after that. Howard is not the answer. Two points not dropped but wastefully thrown away.
dave the caveman Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Nugent ... scores about 1 in every 4 or 5 games, Appearances: 16 Goals: 6. Implied ratio: 1:5 Actual ratio: 1:2.6 Status: top scorer Despite: receivng the same abysmal service from a woeful midfield as other strikers who are so far away from scoring they might aswell castrate themselves Conclusion: he's one of our best players Question: why, out of all the easy targets, have you picked on nuge for criticism?
body102 Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 I would like to see just for once Beckford left on when Howard comes on . Maybe they could gel with Beckfords pace and Howards flick ons .
Fox92 Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Where's Michael Johnson when you need him? Probably not fit. Why are you posting about him all the time? He isn't fit, and reports suggest he doesn't even want to play. We are wasting ££ if we are paying a % of his wages, which will be high at Manchester City. There is a reason why he doesn't feature.
accessory Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Beckford's poor touch negates the advantage of his pace. Maybe it's time to give Schlupp a start.
