Corky Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 I wish Dyer would stop cutting inside from the left- he hasn't got a right foot so isn't going to shoot or make a telling pass.

Guest Col city fan Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 I wish Dyer would stop cutting inside from the left- he hasn't got a right foot so isn't going to shoot or make a telling pass. Lloyd Dyer had more shots than any player in the first half? including the strikers....
Leicester_Loyal Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Midfield was non existent. Scrap the lot of them, they are all shocking. Only one I thought was ok was Dyer, and even he was poor. With that midfield, we won't be going up, thats for certain.
RonnieTodger Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Remarkable isn't it? Before the start of the season we had 8 central midfielders thanks to Sven and we're still looking for a moderately creative one. King, Wellens, Danns, Abe, Fernandes, Johnson, Oakley and Moussa are all falling short of what we need. I personally, see 3 positions that should be filled: 1. A proper winger pinging decent balls into the box, and might have the ability to take a set-piece or two (consistently) 2. A (as many have said) creative midfielder able to pick out a killer pass without needing an age to decide. Having said that, I thought it would have been Johnson 3. An equipped target man who might be able to poke in a goal or two. I honestly can't fatham how 8 central midfielders, who you'd think would all be able to do a decent job in this league are not providing the goods. However, I don't think the whole blame should be on them. We had several opportunities in the first half and didn't make them pay. Did anybody else also get the impression we were trying to walk it in? Frustrating. Still, at least Pearson will have 31 days to bring in some cutting-edge players and hopefully offload any dead wood.
Corky Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Lloyd Dyer had more shots than any player in the first half? including the strikers.... Yes, when he hit them with his left. Twice I recall he got into promising positions to then turn on to his right side, which meant nothing came from it.
ithuriel Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Went to the match. Peltier, Smeichel and Konchesky played very well. Gally, Dyer and Nugent fought gamely in attack. We really, really need a new midfield.
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Yes, when he hit them with his left. Twice I recall he got into promising positions to then turn on to his right side, which meant nothing came from it. Unlike many on here I think the opposite is true. I reckon that Lloyd often cuts back in on his right when he sees absolutely nothing to aim at, or to pass to. The times he did cross with his left foot, and, IMO delivered quick and whipped-in crosses, there was no-one anywhere near getting on the end of them. How this team needs a sniffer, a six-yard area striker who instinctively knows whats coming in and when. This type of striker would have gotten on the end of the balls coming in today. When Lloyd cuts back in, I reckon its cos he knows he's got to.
FrankieADZ Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Should have beaten them by a good few today...but thats football for ya....a pain in the arse. I still dont rate St.Ledger, even tho Bamba does the odd gaff....I can see he rushing to try and fix them...but when St.Ledger does it he moves are quick are a dead snail. Cant wait to have Mills back in the team.
Cropwellfox Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 forget the playoffs - despite the millions invested we didn't look any better than an average championship side today. Beckford isn't going to miraculously recover his goalscoring touch mid season, despite 8 central midfielders in the squad we need to start again with the midfield and we need to integrate 2 new wide players into the team. We'll stumble around between 9th and 13th for the rest of this year, you just know Hull will get into the playoffs and once again there'll be plenty of fans laughing at our expense. Any team that gets to Christmas having not won two on the bounce all season isn't going to achieve anything. We should concentrate for the second half of the season to get a unit with collective understanding together and start to gain the momentum that can kick us on next season - as Middlesborough did last year into this season. It's not about spending millions on players to be effective - it's about having a team and not individuals, and Pearson needs to be given time to do this.
SMX11 Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 I think we just need to steadily build for the future instead of this clear desperation of getting promoted. At the end of the season there needs to be a gutting of some of the squad. Wellens, Howard and Oakley should be the first out of the door, they are over the hill and will only deteriorate even more than they currently are (the latter two shouldn't be anywhere near the team). We need hungry young players with a sprinkling of experience just like Pearson has done at Hull.
Oh tommy wright Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Yes, it's the midfield NP. Don't look anywhere else. As I've stated before no idea what the answer is. As with many of you I am starting to think that they are simply not good enough... The strikers have very little service so bringing Howard on is very much an act of desperation. Just all a bit depressing at the moment. At least no fat prat with the drum today!
Babylon Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Couldn't agree more. Top strikers instinctively know where the cross is gonna end up....where the through ball is gonna finish. The number of times we had the ball in their box with neither striker anywhere near it was crazy I think you are some what overplaying the quality of the balls in to the box.

Guest Col city fan Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 I think you are some what overplaying the quality of the balls in to the box. Many weeks I would agree with you Babylon. I don't think thats true today... Gally and Dyer put some lovely crosses in today, with no-one gambling on them. I can't recollect their keeper actually having to make many saves at all. Everything that was popped in was easily intercepted by their defenders and either hoofed away or put out for a corner. This wasnt due to the quality of the crosses, it was due to our strike pair not reading anything or having any physical presence, IMO
Babylon Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Nugent runs around and does.... what exactly I know, thanks to our largely inept midfield & the fact Beckford looks a million miles away from the player we though we were signing that Nugent will be one of the last people to receive attention negatively, but aside from a couple of good performances I'd struggle to tell him apart from someone like Iain Hume, runs around a lot, scores about 1 in every 4 or 5 games, not good enough, he'll be one of the highest paid players in the division outside of West Ham's relegated Premiership players, he needs to start doing more too Whilst the midfield will take the brunt of the criticism our forwards had the ball in their area more than they're probably ever going to all season & nothing happened, the keeper was barely challenged He has played more than a couple of good games. Compare his record pre and post Beckford. He has been asked to do different things since his arrival.
gazzer Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 this manager is worse than the last one and the Club has wasted a lot of money getting him

How many times did any of them get the ball and just whip it in? It was all touch, touch, inside, outside, inside, lame cross.

I don't know why people are saying the corners were poor, there was only one poor one in about 8. TBF, I think in the first half we were just a bit unlucky. On another day we could have been 3-0 up.
gazzer Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 Somebody post a face palm picture for me. why can't you do it yourself
FrankieADZ Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 The guy has cost us more than St Ledger has, not that I've been impressed with either. I feel more comfortable when hes there compared to St.Ledger...but still...both dodgy at times.
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 December 2011 Posted 10 December 2011 What????? Where were you sitting? sitting in the kop, Tommy Wright (one of my fave old players as it happens)...first half there was tons of stuff coming in... first 20 mins wave after wave of attack...leading to about what? 6/7 corners. I can't recollect our strikers getting anywhere near anything. With the exception of Beckford hitting the post and missing a sitter of a header.
