It's fascinating how the general tone of this thread has altered, indeed become more pleasant, since people have discovered that it is being more 'widely read'.....

As I said yesterday... Glass houses and stones springs to mind...

Constructive criticism?.... Mmmmm

lol lol

Everything that people wanted to say has been said

I haven't written anything I wouldn't tell him to his face, of course not everyone can probably say that.

Id happily tell him some of the crap he spouts is deluded rubbish....because in my opinion it is. Perhaps if I put on a scottish accent when I tell him, he may well take it the wrong way :dunno:

If anything, the it's the "you should be ashamed of yourself" group that are pretty fickle. Didn't notice many sticking up for him before that facebook quote was posted?

I didn't post anything because this thread is recreated once a fortnight and I couldn't be bothered to repeat the same old crap that's been said dozens of times before. When it comes to light that a man might lose his job over some of the baseless accusations on here then that changes things.

Baseless accusations?

If it's people saying that he's not giving a clear description of the game, then I wouldn't say that it is baseless. If it's any other accusation though (I don't know what the deleted posts said, so I can't comment!) then I guess that's a different matter.

Why don't we get bruno to replace him. I preferred listening to him on tour that the sound of Alan Young. The man don't know what hes talking about. Ok he did good in his career here but commentating is not for him. He talks a load rubbish.

E.g When he said no one plays with wingers anymore and you didn't see any of the promoted teams last year playing with wingers. Thats the olden days. Now come on that is just stupid.

He watches a different game every week to everyone else because does anyone agree ever with him. He talks a load of sh..

Also what i've read on here he don't even no our players names yet! He is clueless.

I think the wingers thing was a misunderstanding, wingers were originally the two wide men in a 235 formation so from that perspective there are no wingers these days. They are now wide mid-fielders either in a 433 or 442 formation, yes they have similar skills but if you ever saw teams playing the 235 formation the wing play was entirely different to today's version.

Alf Ramsey started the decline of the old fashioned type winger in the 1966 WC when he dropped both wingers and played players normally associated with a central midfield / inside forward role.

Dont feel hurt Alan, commentate fairly and honestly.

There are thousands of people who RELY on player and radio leicester for our information about the team we love.

1) Stop showing your bias toward and against certain players.

2) Tell me about what is happening DURING the game...draw me a verbal picture.

3) Acknowledge and accept that the game played the way it was 20 years ago...and

possibly that the way it was played then...might not work now.

4) Let people finish their comments when they disagree with you.

Nailed it, particularly point 4. When somebody phones up and politely offers a different opinion it must be given the airtime it deserves, otherwise it is only AY's opinion that is heard, and that clouds listeners' judgements. It's not like with (for example) Andy Townsend on the TV where viewers can see that he's talking rubbish - listeners depend on Stringer and Young to paint a picture. If you don't give airtime to other views and accept the points made therein, then you have a totally subjective commentary, and that benefits nobody.

As much as I disagree with a lot of what they say, at least Stringer and Young's enthusiasm is a breath of fresh air when compared with what preceded them.

The coverage could (and should) be better, but it's nothing that a little tighter editorial control couldn't fix.

i like the man i agree he with some of you saying he has his fav but dont we all , basically hes there to coment on the game as he sees it and we all see the same game differently i argue with my mate all the time on the events and players in a game e.g he thinks kaspers crap i mean i ask ya but thats still his opinion and alan young has his opinion , it maybe that i just cant forget what a good striker he was for us but thats just my opinion !!!!

It's not Young's job to describe what is happening on the pitch that's what Stringer's paid for.

Young is there purely to offer his opinion on the game as events unfold although that should be a balanced and unbiased opinion. Trouble is when people disagree on someone's opinion it often results in accusations of bias and favourites.

Every manager that ever managed is accused of having favourites so it's hardly surprising when pundits and fans have them.

I think people are misunderstanding the two man commentating dynamic. I've stated this before (and I know he reads FT) that Stringer is as much at fault for the poor professionalism of team as Young is. Young is the ex-pro who is supposed to give his evaluations of the overall game, tactics, and player performances.

It is Stringer's job to give detailed (as best you can) descriptions of the action.

Now no one can argue that Young isn't doing his job. He's giving his opinion, however biased, repetitive, and misinformed it may be. He is passionate, but whoever is running the show needs to have words with both of them regarding their act. I've said it before when offering criticism of the show in the past, be it the commentary or the 'moan-in'.

I've gone as far to ring in on the moan-in, and Stringer sold me up the river to win points with Pearson (which he lost in dramatic form the week afterwards!).

I have seen them trying to do something different. But a soccer-am shoot-out with members of the team kicking past a dummy, does not work on the radio. So whomever commissioned that idea needs a word with themselves.

I don't use Official Foxes player, but if I did pay for it, I'd be damn well furious.

I do hope that Young doesn't lose his job, but the producer of the show takes on board the criticism and they actually produce a professional product. Listening to R5 last week, the quality gap is immense. They should be striving to aim for that standard week in week out.

EDIT: Also Stringer no doubt holds a grudge for an article I wrote on BBC 606 which to he didn't take criticism well.

I've read this all through and I really can't argue with any of it Big Fella.

The issue I've had is with many people being pretty nasty to Young when, I believe, he's actually doing the best he can and essentially telling it like he thinks... Whether you agree or disagree...

As I said earlier I would actually rather hear what he feels, rather than a load of neutral spin and impassion.

But you are very right here to be fair... The whole presentation could be an awful lot better than it is.

I get most of my Leicester City action on BBC Radio Leicester... and I totally agree with the majority, Alan Young is unfortunately not great at this.

I feel like we've asked him to paint our house blue. He trumpets in painting the neighbours house red. Wrong house, wrong colour.

I've always thought Stringer is ok, except from what we foxestalk chatters on live chat call "w*nk" moments where it sounds from Stringers commentary that we've tore their defense apart and is about to score a screamer of a goal, but it ends as a goal kick to the opponent's side...

Oh, and he comment of someone's hat or hairstyle is sometimes ... off the mark? ;)

Why do the 2 incidents have to be connected?

they was the 2 strikers on the pitch..

Howard got sent off for swearing at the linesman, in the heat of the moment I thought, and I'm sure others did as well, "f'ck off ref you're not going to send him off for that are you?"On reflection the ref probably got it right but I didn't think that at the time.

He criticised Beckford for not chasing down the ball when we were hanging on in injury time, I wasn't there but if that was true I'd have criticised him too. Young also said all through the commentary that he thought he would be a good signing when he first signed and that we hadn't seen the best of him yet.

All he did was give his opinion, whether you agree with him or not it gives you something to talk about. Would you really prefer some simpering sycophant who tells you how great everyone is while we're losing 3-0?

Hopefully that Thanks was genuine and not sarcastic, what you said was a bit on the daft side.

I fear it may have been sarcasm...

I have not read back on this but for my two penneth it was all summed up in one call a few months ago where Young lectured a fan on how it is his club as well and he is as passionate as anyone and then when they brought up Pearsons previous reign he said "Well I wasnt here then so I cant comment" My response although rather flat was along the lines of "So its your ****ing team is it, but only when you're ****ing well paid for it!!!!!!!!!"""""

Apart from that I agree with all the other comments about when someone diagrees with the big dud. Bring back Matt Piper ;o)

he said more than chasing down, he didnt STOP criticising beckford, from before he came on the pitch to the end, i dont recall him once praising him?? , maybe someone can post the link so we can listen again as id like to hear him saying what you said he does,

people that went seem to have said beckford played well, made himself a couple of chances, if it was him that got sent off can you honestly say you think he wouldnt have ripped him???
