Alan Young

You hear one thing on the radio from Youngy, then you hear something else from the fans and usually the fans are right.

Youngy's opinions are very unreasonable, he just talks shit literally every time Beckford comes off the bench he's like 'ohh what is beckford doing, he should be closing them down or getting a shot away' - does he think Beckford is some sort of ****ing superman?? Expects him to do everything, but doesn't say anything about Nugent and from what I heard against Palace, Nugent was very lazy.

Some things he says are annoying like sticking up for Howard when he got sent off the other day but I like the fact he speaks his mind. I remember when he first started he was a breath of fresh air. It's hardy like Radio Leicester was any better before hand. I used to find it bland and boring. At least Stringer and Young dare to make opinions known instead of never critising anyone and always playing it safe.

I have nothing against Young and actually think he talks sense some of the time. The only problem is when he has a player who he does not like, usually a player who is not a grafter who runs himself into the ground every match, he targets them as some useless lump.

In the case of Beckford on saturday, he was the opposite of how Alan Young described him (I was at the game, listened to his opinions on the iPlayer later) he led the line well, almost fashioned a couple of goals through his own work and generally put the effort in.

I'm all for Mr Young having an opinion of a player, but if he is going to completely disregard an individuals performance on the basis that he doesn't like him (it is evident the way he goes on about it) then he clearly shouldn't be payed for accurate analysis that the License payer has to fork out for.

Why are Young's theories any more 'half-baked' than anyone else's?

He seems to find Beckford a player who doesn't get involved in the game as much as he could and finds this very frustrating... I agree

He seems to find Matt Mills nowhere near the player we all feel he could be.... I agree

He finds Neil Danns goes missing in games... I agree

I ask again... What sort of commentary do you want? A completely PC, neutral analysis of a game or someone who is simply expressing their views on a club they love. Don't forget that Youngy isn't actually doing the game commentary is he? That's Stringers job I believe? Young comes in to expressly give his view.

If his view does not concur with that of others then cest la vie... Are you expecting everything he says to 'fit in' with everyone else's view of the same player. God, you only have to come on here after a game to see the huge discrepancies between views of the same game, the same players, the same incidents immediately after a game!

The problem I think Young may have is that he wears his heart on his sleeve too much.. He therefore doesn't neatly fit-in to the modern day, PC world of saying lots but actually saying nothing at all.

To take Beckford as an example, i reckon he thinks that Beckford has massively under performed so far this season and, compared to the rough and tough, all effort type player that Youngy was, he finds Beckford an arrogant Prima Donna that is being paid far too much for the effort he puts in. However, I also believe that he is first and foremost a City fan who is actually willing Beckford to start hitting the back of the net.

It all depends what you want from 'Stringers side-kick'... Someone who sometimes gets it wrong ( like we all do) but who 'says it as he sees it' or someone who gives an impartial view on everything.

I don't always agree with Young... For example, I'm sure he said that Becks had a good game on Boxing Day! When I personally thought he was pants. But I commend him for actually daring to give his own view on things, rather than trawling out a lot of neutral impartiality like most people seem to do in a similar position these days.

You make some good points regarding his passion etc.. which i like, but the problem with our squad isnt just down to Mills, Danns and Beckford(the names you listed), Young goes on as though they are in a very unpleasant way. he's not too good with callers who disagree with him either. Maybe its just his accent making it sound worse then he means.

give me neutral impartiality over defending steve 'the big man' howard's sending off, and slating beckford for coming on the pitch wearing a ring, any day.

the thing is beckford havent even got on the pitch and he was slating him... then every thing he did he criticised, but as people at the game have been saying he did well when he came on.. and even after howard got sent off beckford was the poor striker on the day..

But I'm not the one coming on here defending his right to an opinion and then stating other people aren't allowed to air theirs.

Called for him to be sacked, where have I done that then? I've said he has major bias towards certain players and this clearly plays out in his summary of events. and I've defended peoples right to air their opinion of his, just as many have defended his right to air his bias whilst being paid to do so.

I don't care who he is, who he played for, or what he's gone through. I just want someone who has opinions, but is fair about it. If Howard has been an idiot say so, don't try and defend him when you would have slaughtered other players for similar.

And breathe...

The word "You" was used in a general format, not specifcally attacking you, there are posts on here calling for him to be sacked.

I would be demanding the resignation of dozens of people everyday if the only basis was their opinion differed from mine. This morning alone I would have about 20 lined up already.

They are his opinions and they are what they are, just because they are not in line with your own or others on here is irrelevant.

If any of you have a real issue with him and what he says, there's a phone-in try giving him a call, he's on Facebook, send him a message, write to him, c/o Radio Leicester. Far more productive than anonymously venting your spleen on here!

This thread is hilarious.

I'm not a fan of Young (or any "Match Analyst", if that is the correct term) Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it his job to give his opinions. He's better than the BBC TV match commentators by a fvcking mile, because they're just biased cvnts.

I have to agree with people saying that actual match commentary is poor. The 5 Live radio commentary was by far superior, on monday, as you actually knew what was going on, rather than Young and Stringer talking about things which were extremely irrelevant to the match.

but its not irrelevant.. people PAY to hear him.. people PAY to hear about the game and the players.. whats the point in paying if your going to hear something false? ??

this so called less productive annonymously venting has been quite the oppossite though, people have discussed it in large, Youngy has read it, he can see the full picture, how people have taken it etc. to me this was a prefect place to discuss it,,,

I don't think it's there job to actually give opinions though - it's their job to describe the game accurately so I have an idea what's going on. At least, thats what I pay for Foxes Player for.

I'm in two minds though. I actually like Stringer and Young, I think they have much more personality then your standard radio commentator, and I do find them entertaining. I also like the fact that we have not only a former football player, but a former leicester player commentating aswell. That being said, I'm not listening simply for the Stringer & Young comedy act, I would also like to know what is going on in the game, if not all the time, at least for the majority. We seem to have 5 minute periods where the game only gets mentioned once or twice and I have absolutely no idea where the ball is, or even which team has it.

My other criticism is that I agree that Young seems to have his favourites - fair enough, everyone does, but regardless of whether you like/rate a player or not, it doesn't mean you have to interpret the game to try and conform to those views, which is what often seems to happen. If Beckford is playing well, or Steve Howard is having a mare, then say so; be objective, and don't try and make excuses for them or villify them based on your personal beliefs. It's not fair on the fans, who rely on the radio for an accurate portrayal of how the game is going/who played well etc., or the players, who some fans may have their opinion swayed on.based on biased radio commentary.

I would like to see young and stringer continue. I'd just like to hear more of the game, and for young to be a little more objective!

I'm sure SENSIBLE and CONSTRUCTIVE comments about Stringer's commentary and Youngy's analysis would be taken on board in the appropriate manner. No need to get nasty and personal.

I think you are probably in a better position to comment than most. Obviously you have your own favourites and preconceived ideas on players and managers etc, do you put that to one side and call it as you see it. Or is your mind already made up and it will have have some bearing on what you say?

I just can't help feel on Saturday had Bamba or Beckford been the ones sent off they would have been torn a new one by the commentary team.

Up until Monday Young had repeatedly stood up for Beckford; he certainly doesn't have it in for him.

I disagree with 90% of his opinions but he's absolutely entitled to them. As others have commented it becomes an issue where the picture painted for the listener is coloured by Young's personal bias towards some players, which has been dangerously close to happening in recent weeks.

why are posts being deleted?? thought we was discussing the situation well

I'm not sure what else has gone, but a couple I've had to remove certainly do not fall into the category of "discussing it well".

Bit harsh this thread. Read abit yesterday, messages of support being posted on youngy's facebook. He's more than aware of what's been said.

Feel for the guy, he's passionate about his and OUR club. He's a supporter aswell as a commentator. You wouldn't be spiteful about another Leicester fan.

Hope he stays on BBC Radio Leicester, I enjoy his views, does his job well I think. I mostly enjoy his views at the end of a home game, we get in the car, and we hear youngy debating various topics with callers in a decent manner.

If you don't like him, don't listen, and certainly don't call for his head.

There are some players I like - some I think get unfair criticism but I have to call it as I see it.

I know the Prem ref Peter Walton a bit and we had a chat before the Wolves - Chelsea game (which I was covering for Talksport) on Monday. Despite my 'link' with him, I still gave him stick for what he got wrong. He would understand. I have a job to do. I try to be fair and balanced to the best of my ability.

But yeah sometimes personal views can cloud judgement a bit.

there was a thread started other day that came about because a reply hadnt used a "quote" and so was taken all out of context so people will try and quote when replying, so your dammed if you do and dammed if you dont

What were those "hints" again with regards to Alan Young? PM is appreciated.

If anyone should fear litigation, then it is the individuals who were daring enough to come up with such claims.

Unfortunately we're only part timers so cannot realistically be sure of reading every post between us also we're all different and have varying views on what is unacceptable, it's not easy that's for sure and it's not foolproof but we try our best and try not to be personal or biased in our judgements.
