davieG Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Maybe he's decided that all the gripes and moans he gets on Foxestalk isn't worth the big wage.
Happy Fox Posted 22 January 2012 Author Posted 22 January 2012 Don't believe for a second Wellens wants to leave, still starting regularly, on better money than he'll get anywhere, unlikely to get a move to a bigger club, getting on in years. For the time being perhaps, his days are numbered and that is why he wants to go and I am glad because he is not good enough for us.
5waller5 Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Maybe he's decided that all the gripes and moans he gets on Foxestalk isn't worth the big wage. So we have got a part to play in our club's promotion after all!!! Yay!!!!
Guest Col city fan Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 No, you suggested a reason for him possibly wanting to leave was through being booed and jeered at the ground. I was saying that he doesn't get a huge amount of jeering at the stadium. In two-and-a-half years at the club I'd say it has only occurred in the past month or so. I think you're right Corky... I've rarely heard a lot of abuse given to Wellens at games.. Although moreso recently to be fair. Most of his aggro comes from here.. Wonder if he DOES come on and read it? Probably I would think....
The Padster Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Time to look forward I think. I doubt Wellens would be playing much next season so let's get in as much of the squad now that Pearson wants to have next season so we aren't making 20 transfers in the summer. Sounds right to me. Pearson has had a word saying something about "getting on a bit." and "more than likely to be a sub next season" - so he can get a more dynamic midfielder in- and Wellens has thought he still has something to offer so wants to go.
Matt Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 If he can't do a full weeks training, he can't play every match as simple as that for me. Added with the fact he drifts in and out of games, is hit and miss, there are better players out there, and no-one deserves a guaranteed place. If he want's to go let him go, whats the point in having him here if he doesn't want to be here. Some of the deadwood is slowly moving out the club I feel.

So is that not enough to piss a player off? How is he getting off lightly? Some other players never get jeered or booed for mistakes.

However, if true then I reckon Pearson is doing exactly what he said he would do. I don't expect great things from us now this season. But if Pearson stays on I think we will be a much better team next season.

I think we'll be a better team without Wellens in it ..... he inhibits other players IMO, once he's not around I think we'll see more out of other players, especially the younger ones.

Mission Unlikely Promotion Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 This whole Wellens debate will just roll on to be fair 'the first time he's been good enough to be in the team all year'? Funny that... You could have said exactly the same thing about Mr Beckford who's constant lack of effort and desire have been nicely overlooked by many on here. Weighing it all up it would seem better that Richie goes. He won't be a regular by the looks of it and the constant bombardment and scapegoating of him would make any player want to leave I would imagine. This

Just occurred to me the difference between the two is that Becks has been dropped plenty of times because of this .... Wellens has warmed the bench once? Twice?
Mission Unlikely Promotion Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 He's too good for Leeds. I cant believe the stick Richie Wellens gets on this forum, he was our Player of the Season only last season!!!! Yes i think most would agree he has had a dip in form generally this season but really the stick he gets is way over the top
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Unless Nigel has 2 centre midfielders lined up then we shouldn't sell. Richie is a good player in this league, plenty of experience which is needed to blend with the youthful players Pearson intends to bring in. Think the constant abuse from about 75% of people on here is ridiculous so if I was him I would probably want to leave.
Dan Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 It's probably a good move. I don't understand our fans' bias towards Abe and against Wellens, it's embarrassing. I do think this year Wellens really has lost it though, he's been my favourite player since we signed him yet this year he's been extremely disappointing and if he wants to leave due to lack of game time, then let him go.
Frost Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Been slating our midfield for ages and now its all going. Yet again, we'll not win promotion with Wellens or Abe in the middle of the park. Keep up the good work Nige, if true of course.
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Great Post Wellens along with a number of other players has had four managers (counting Pearson twice) over the last one and a half seasons, imagine how that would affect anybody in their workplace certainly unsettling if nothing else. Wellens had a cracking game on Tuesday night but none of the "Out Brigade" had got the balls to come on here and say so, same goes for Beckford. Some of our fans think real life works along the same lines as a footballing computer game which it obviously doesn't - to those who take every opportunity to fire insults at our players take time out to read some of the more constructive posts on here and try to learn more about the game and life in general before sending out crass statements. Bang on ! I think little Happy Fox and his mates should start trying to actually PLAY the game instead of "pretending" that reality football and all the slogans and catch-phrases that go with it actually entitles them to think they know what they are talking about !!

Good to see you've come back mi son. Happy Fox usually talks some sense but this whole Wellens out thing has gone on for too long IMO. He'd be wiser to leave now I reckon... This all smacks of 'his time has come to move on'. I have always rated Ritchie and agree with you that the criticism on here of him this season has been over the top. But a move away could be the best thing FOR HIM.. If he leaves I will thank him for the effort he has put into playing for the club.. And wish him all the best.

Probably right as usual ........but IF he goes ,and i really hope he does'nt, the haters will realise the old saying ....... You'll never know what you have till it's gone !!
EnderbyFox Posted 22 January 2012 Posted 22 January 2012 Sorry "Wherethefoxhat?" are you judging people for critizing Wellens when not long ago you made a thread saying how good we are without Andy King? So its okay when you say how awful King is, but people can't comment on Wellens'? Hypocrite

Probably right as usual ........but IF he goes ,and i really hope he does'nt, the haters will realise the old saying ....... You'll never know what you have till it's gone !! No probs mate. As I said earlier it all depends what you want to believe don't it? Wellens has been the subject of conspiracy theories, being too 'lazy' to train, and has been at the centre of blame for others not performing. This is where the whole thing has become ridiculous. The one thing I do believe is that Pearson is not the type to have anyone at the club who believes himself to be bigger than he is. I commend him for this. IF Wellens is fed up because he's not playing every game AND was making a big issue of this, then Pearson would be quite right to let him go
