Beckford Appeal Lodged

Here is angle number 2 showing the foot of beckford. For me he is simply stepping over his fat head.

How can anyone justify that as a red card from that angle is beyond me lol

Having seen the second video.... Wow. The Lino should never officiate again.

Question is, did he intentially leave his boot down there to catch him? Now give me something to walk over and 9999 out of a 10,000 I can probably do so without accidentally dragging my foot over it. Which leads me to believe he meant to catch him, so there is most probably something within the rules that means he is correct in being sent off.

It's quite ludicrous though that he could face a three match ban for that. There may have been intent to make contact with the other player, but quite obviously there was no attempt to harm him in any way. So much so the other bloke didn't even seem to know it had happened. You probably have more dangerous contact going on at bloody corners than that.

I think they will keep the red card but reduce the length of the ban. How can they not do that at a minimum when you look at Rooneys appeal.

That is what the red card was for - the supposed tap on Dunk's head with Beckford's boot.

Clearly bollocks, anybody can see that.

If you're going to go as far as sending somebody off, you've got to be bloody sure about what they've done. Although apparently not these days.

I stand by refs a little bit, but things are getting silly. It's all very well if a ref MISSES a foul, they're only human. But for them to actively make potentially game changing decisions based on unclear evidence is ridiculous - and it goes on too much nowadays. If you're not 100% certain of what you've seen, leave the card in your pocket!

lol I can't believe he got sent off for that, absolutely nothing in the tackle or anything after. Unless he used bad language towards the official, how can he possibly be issued a red card, the appeal will be successful.

Well at least our ref against Cardiff can't possibly be as bad as the ones we've had in the previous two matches...

OH NO please don't tempt fate, we always get shit refs.

Poyet backed Jermaine Beckford after his straight red card and questioned the red card shown to his midfielder Matt Sparrow late on.

Neil Danns was also dismissed in added-time for a second yellow card, although Poyet said his challenge on Vicente Rodriguez could also have been a straight red.

"The second half was crazy, absolute madness," said Poyet.

"But at the end, in these types of games, you have to take the points, then you analyse the incidents afterwards.

"I didn't see it (the Beckford incident) in the game.

"The first surprise was that the referee didn't give the free-kick, and then the linesman flagged. We don't know why.

"I didn't see it. I saw it afterwards and it didn't look that bad. It doesn't look aggressive.

Speaking of leaving boots in near peoples head. Did anyone else see one of their players (fairly early on in the first half), leave his boot on Kaspers head when he came out to collect a ball? The Brighton player had half jumped to avoid getting cleared up, but clearly applied downway force to the side of Kaspers head whilst in mid air/coming back down again.

The FA should really take a good hard look at themselves and think what part they play in ensuring that there is no respect for referees. There should be some sort of system whereby the manager of both teams rates the referees performance at the end of the game. Over a season the poorer referees would be exposed and relegated and the good referees promoted.

The FA does not make referees accountable for any decisions. They should remember that the fans are their customers and they deserve matches not to be ruined by poor officiating when they've paid £30+ for a ticket to watch a game. In almost every other profession service providers are accountable to their customers.

The FA, however, are consistently intransigent and out of touch with reality. I wouldn't be surprised if they refuse to overturn this red card despite the overwhelming evidence it was not justified. This coming so soon after the woeful performance from the referee at the Boro match.

We as fans would see this and think if the FA don't take incompetence seriously then why should we: "Respect the ref" ?

Think it already happens. Ratings are given from each manager after the end of each game based on referee and other officials' performances.. Not sure what the scale is.

I honestly didn't know that. It does make you wonder how some referees maintain their employment at such a high level if that is the case.

Why is everyone complaining about the ref? Surely he is just going by what the linesman is telling him...which they are supposed to do....if you dont see an incident but get told somebody kicked out you act accordingly!

Posted

The ref was pretty poor overall, so just because he went on the linesman's (sorry, assistant referee's) advice on this incident doesn't mean he was faultless throughout the game.

They were both awful.
