Whats happened to all of Matt Mills fans?

In december i started a topic 'Matt Mills distribution' a few agreed with me most said i did not have a clue about football, obviously never played, defenders dont need to pass it blah blah blah do these people think Mills has been hard done by and still rate him or have they changed there mind? Also i cant find the post anymore for some reason its been removed

Look at my sig for a hint of how relevant I believe distribution to be to a CB if they have other attributes

I'm more concerned about how easily Mills is dominated by opposing player

How piss poor his marking up is

How often him & whoever he's partnering are left looking at each other as yet another goal goes in and neither of them have communicated as to who is picking who up

How often he's out of position

Zero leadership as a CB

Less than zero leadership as a supposed captain

Indifferent defender, piss poor captain whose reds & their associated suspensions have left us up shit creek... as they did before he joined us.

What I like about Matt Mills I could write on the back of a postage stamp... If I could write really small I'd say "Looks a bit like Freddie Flintoff"

with a bit more coaching Hobbs would have been ten times the player Mills is

I was probably one who you would class as a "Mills fan" because I was not slagging him off all the time. I defended Mills in the thread started by you and by similar threads started by others because they were over the top and unconstructive, and I think it is better to support the players and give them the benefit of the doubt, rather than slag them off.

I have also cursed under my breath in frustration watching Mills pass the ball out of play or get sent off. Mills hasn't turned into a bad player because he has had a bust up with the manager, but one of the key qualities in a Leicester player, for me, is that the team comes first and you give everything for the team ahead of your own personal ambitions. Mills has shown himself up and lost the trust and the benefit of the doubt afforded him by the fans by what he has done.

mills is decent, nothing more. more interesting to me is people who don't like bamba, the guy is immense. he's athletic, strong, quick, good control, and he can play football. I don't get all this bomb scare stuff, some people talk like he's juggling the ball on his goal line and balancing it on his neck! if anything I wanna see more of his mazy, crazy runs!

There is a list as long as your arm of LCFC CB's who've failed to form a partnership with him since he joined, which is extremely poor in a position where partnership is everything.

Awesome individual though if a bit heart-attack inducing at times

I couldnt agree more, need him back in the team asap!!

Good defender who has underperformed at Leicester. Unfortunately I think his disciplinary record is through being over zealous, rather than poor defending. I'm not condoning any behaviour off the pitch and no one player is bigger than the club, but when he signed I was really quite excited. Unfortunately, whether it be the price tag, the Captain's arm band or playing alongside Bamba he has only played well occasionally. I hope he can turn things around, but if he is a hot head and disrupts the team spirit, then it maybe best to move him on in the Summer. I'm sure one of the promoted clubs or lower Prem teams maybe interested.

Can't help feeling disappointed that it hasn't worked out for him, or for us. I thought the price tag was a problem, not that it was a problem to me. It added pressure on him & it added to people's expectations, which were always going to be difficult to live up to. He had his poor games & he had his good games. I thought he was good enough a player that the good would far outweigh the bad........that he had the ability to prove his doubters wrong.

I will wish him well..........wherever that may be.

The lynch mob have been piling in during recent days, just like they were this time last season when Eriksson offloaded Jack Hobbs.

And look how well that turned out for us...

If Jack Hobbs was still here, he would be sixth choice behind Morgan, SSL, Bamba, Mills and Tunchev. Hobbs was decent, but in the same class as those mentioned IMO

you say that, but the fact hull have the best defensive record and hobbs has been in a fair few teams of the week suggests you're underrating him

Mills IS a good centre back

Playing alongside Bamba must be so difficult, with SSL he looked far better, one poor game recently and he is dropped, no wonder he is pissed off

Wonder if this was always Pearson's plan, we all knew at least one CB would have to go, how many of us thought it would be Bamba

Pearson is showing very little man management skills

And he is a Leicester fan!!

He's a good player. Not worth '£5m' though thats been reported by a good source not to be true. Even if it was then the price-tag isn't his fault. He's better than Bamba IMO, and as good as Morgan. SSL is the best defender. We tend to see the worst in Mills on the field due to his price tag. All I've ever seen him do is make good block after winning good headers. Yes his distribution is pretty poor, we all agree on that. But if he kept the balls short he'd be no worse than SSL and Morgan. If he could pass the ball accurately with long range passes as well as most of you expect him to then he'd be playing in the Premiership.

Off the field, I don't know whats gone on. Not listened to the phone in as its just people ringing in with specualtion.

I think what winds people up is the fact that he's no better than Hobbs. We sold him for however much it was, and got someone in for the reportedly £5m sum who's of the same standard. (Comparing another defender to Hobbs is not an insult either)

I certainly hope be stays. For all the stick he's had, he has put in some terrific performanes here and there. I guess it all depends on what really happened between him and NP.

To right and so many are juding him on rumours and from one side of the dispute.

Think one problem since our new owners arrived is the fact we get to know very little of what is happening.

Not that we really have a right to know the in's and out's of the business.

But over the years I have supported the club it seems to be the tightest the ship has beem run reguarding info.

As a player I think we should keep him N so hope the sun storey the other day is wrong that NP will let him go for free in the summer.

If that is true don't think our owners are gonna be happy Np could find he's being told to sort it or leave.

But thats more speculation lol

agree with this, morgan has no pace! will get found out soon enough!

In the 2 full games Morgan has played, he's been up against some of the fastest players around in the form of a very lively Norwich team & Tyson at Derby, he was involved in a few one on ones in those games and his strength meant no one could pass him, also the 1st few yards are in your head, meaning he's already in the right position whilst the attacker is still watching the flight of the ball

So pace does matter, but what matters more is experience, ability, effective partnership with someone who knows where you're going to be & you know where they're going to be etc... & etc...

Posted

He's still a solid defender. On current form he's our 3rd choice. Let's be honest, if you think Pearson wants him out for footballing ability reasons alone, you're a little bit silly.

I did'nt think Matt Mills had any footballing abillity his marking was bad he would of better off marking a ghost, we all no about his distribution was he a good tackler i dont think so the only thing he had going for him he was'nt bad in the air so does that make him a good defender ? IN 43 years watching CITY i have never disliked a player and along comes Matt Mills. I HOPE YOU NEVER PUT A LEICESTER CITY SHIRT ON AGAIN :chant::scarf:

The facts of the case mi lud, are these:

Leicester City sit a full 17 points behind Southampton and 16 points behind West Ham..

That's a lot of points...

It's also highly unlikely that we will even make the play offs.

Therefore, the season, at least in the league, has been an abject failure compared to what most of us thought it would be.

These are facts, and are indisputable.

Matt Mills has played most games as centre back. He's been the club captain. He's been sent off twice.

Therefore, Matt Mills has also been an abject failure in terms of captaining the club to perform at what has been a very average level this season.

He's not the only one...

Beckford was signed for one thing... To score goals... Three league goals and two assists is dreadful so he's also been a failure.

Richie Wellens, one of my favourite players, has put in some dreadful performances.. So he too has failed at this seasons objective.

These are also facts and are indisputable.

The only players this year that have truly stood out IMO have been Kasper, David Nugent, the Konch and most recently St. Ledger.

All the rest have improved a little, but over the season thus far have been decidedly average.

The question is this...

Do fans want to see the same set of players again next season?

Are we gonna be happy, for example, to see Matt Mills back captaining a City side come the start of next season?

From what I've seen of him the answer to that question is a resounding 'No'.

Why? If he's not come up with the goods this season why on earth will he next?

The same with Beckford... All I've heard all season is that he's 'gonna come good' and when he does he'll 'set the championship on fire'..

Well, when exactly? The season is now not far from being over and neither Mills nor Jermaine are exactly setting the division alight are they?

No, I would be happy to see the back of certain players from this squad and for certain new ones to be introduced. The reason being I'm not convinced that they are going to improve particularly. Especially Matt Mills...

Defended him in the past and don't think he's a 'bad' defender'. But Bamba, Ledge and Morgan are far better options right now. We've got to be a ruthless club right now and those pulling their weight must be moved on.

This is a bold but absolutely correct decision.

There are some facts in that comment but also some opinion. Richie Wellens has been probably our most consistent and most creative CM in recent games it's not surprise that our results have turned around at the same time his form has. Jermaine was a panic buy because Sven couldn't get Maynard in the summer that's not his fault but the Beckford Nugent partnership is one of the strongest we've had in a good few years you can guarantee that if Beckford isnt on the score sheet Nugent will be. The trouble is we haven't had a CB Partnership that has really worked yet until now with SSL and Morgan they really do compliment each other perfectly and they look solid. I do feel sorry for Matt mills to a degree I'm Bambas biggest fan I've got full on man love for him but it must of been hard for Mills to deal with him and try and spark up a partnership mainly because he thinks he's a CAM ffs :P but my sympathy runs out at trying to either A) going against the team and management decision to leave him on the bench B) trying to impose his "authority" on Pearson to sway his decision. Your either with us or against us and it's time for Mills to choose where his loyalties lie

Posted

Still here... never a huge fan, but i still believe hes a talented defender, has good positional sense and is generally solid and is a threat at corners etc. Think making him captain was a mistake, he didnt handle the pressure well enough. Still prefer him to Sol who even though i love watching him... just makes me nervous.
