Lambert09 Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Personally I think he would have got the best out of Mills. He was starting to look good under Sven, IMO he lost his job the day Mills got sent off at Hull. Had he been in the team against Millwall they would not have scored 3. Its all for the best now though
deep blue Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 I'm still a big fan of Sven and think he went too early. Under him we were guilty of inconsistency, something we're still guilty of under NFP. Something tells me though, that his reign at the club isn't over. I think he'll be back. I've nothing to substantiate this and his return would mean that we've either been unsuccessful under NP or that he's been poached, but I do think we'll see him again. 7 wins out of the last 10, I think. It's taken Pearson longer than we would have hoped to address the inconsistency, but we seem to be on the right track now.
Captain... Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Sven spent lots of money, too much maybe, where as Nigel is more tight with our budget. I'd rather have a manager like that. Additionally, Sven changed the team on a consistant basis (look at when he dropped Vitor after he scored two goals at Glanford Park) for my liking and in the end, having spent lots of money, we didn't get results, but more than that, the team didn't look motivated and sometimes not even organised. Don't understand the love in either, he was our manager for a short while and didn't achieve anything. I don't see him as anything more. Would rather have Pearson as manager anyday. Agree with this, my favourite was dropping Weale after a man of the match display at Sheffield United, giving the reason he doesn't want to drop him when he is playing badly that will affect his confidence, he prefers to drop players playing well. That was when I lost respect for Sven. Pearson spent additional money on Morgan, Drinkwater and Marshall (all three of which weren't exactly cheap). So, in that regard, he stretched the budget even further. The only player that Eriksson brought in and who hasn't lived up to his potential (yet) is Mills. I will add Ball, Pantsil, Johnson, Fernandes, Kamara, Bednar, Kirkland, Ricardo, plus most of the kids he brought in on loan. I still like Sven and would have loved to have seen him stay with us. Realistically he should have been 'bumped upstairs' last summer and a promising young manager brought in as first team coach, someone who would not mind getting stuck in to the realities of championship football. I think he should have been brought in as director of football after the Cardiff play-off semi, can you imagine that, Pearson picks the team, Sven has the press eating out of his hand and sweet talking anyone Pearson wants into signing for the club. Credit to Sven he did bring in some good players such as Kasper, Nugent, Knochesky, SSL, Danns and at a good price.. players which we would possibly have not got if 'Sven' wasn't here. Nugent and Danns were out of contract so Sven gets no credit for signing them for free, Kasper I will agree was a good deal, as was Bamba, SSL at around 750K seems fair, no idea what we paid for Konch, but considering he was surplus to requirements at Liverpool and not getting any younger I don't think we should have paid much for him. My other big criticism of Sven was the players he sold, they were criminally under valued, Fryatt, Hobbs and Morrison went for next to nothing.
Leicfox Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Sven-Goran Eriksson is still convinced he could have got Leicester City into the Premier League. Not surprised...He has a habit of silly thinking.... 1) Thought Nancy was having an affair with Tony Blair. 2) Thinks Steve McClaren is one of the greatest football managers...ever. 3) Thought splitting the players up and asking them to write down what they thought was going wrong was a good idea. 4) Thought that The Fake Sheikh was his best mate. 5) Thought Notts County were going to be the next big club in world football because they play in black & white like Juventus. 6) Thought bringing Owen Hargreaves on after 68mins and taking off a striker even if losing was good tactical nous. 7) Thought he'd get away with his affair with Ulrika because most men thought she was fit on Gladiators. 8) Thought he'd signed rights to oil, gold and iron ore from a hardline communist state. 9) Thinks by telling the FA to not appoint an England manager until after the European Championships he might get a job. 10) Thought selecting Walcott over the likes of Bent & Defoe for the 2006 world cup squad was a good idea. He's still a money making shagging machine In my eyes though.
Underdog Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 I thank Sven for bringing those players in but that is all, he couldn't motivate them for a toffee, NP seems to be doing this and results have steadily improved. Couldn't agree more. Sven bought some quality to Leicester - players who would never have come if NP were in charge. Sven's trouble was that he had quality players but didn't know how to mould them into a team, something Nigel seems to have managed eventually!

A couple more: 11) Then didn't play Walcott despite desperately needing a goal 12) Described Steve Howard as the Christian Vieri of the Championship
EnderbyFox Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 I still like Sven and would have loved to have seen him stay with us. Realistically he should have been 'bumped upstairs' last summer and a promising young manager brought in as first team coach, someone who would not mind getting stuck in to the realities of championship football. Mills aside, pretty much all his signings have done very well, some will have increased in value massively so he clearly remains effective at this part of the job. A strong first team coach to bring the players together and give them a structure to play in was what was needed with Sven looking after the big picture. This is not being wise after the event, I was making these suggestions nearly a year ago.... This. Although results wise we started this year pretty poorly, i remain thankful to Sven for the job he did when he first took over last season- when I saw some of the best football i've ever seen us play. Just a shame we lacked consistency and our run came to an end.
yorkie1999 Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Juventus play in black and white like notts county!
Jordan Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Sven pissed money away without really assessing what we need. No point in buying loads of players without thinking of formations and systems. The fact we didnt really have any wingers was a disgrace. Np knew we needed a leader at the back and signed Morgan. He knew we needed another winger and signed Marshall. Knows how to build a team. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Leicester really needed an upgrade at GK, and Sven grabbed Schmeichel on a bargain. Nearly all of Leicester's back line were loanees, and Sven signed highly-rated players at all of those positions. Sven liked to play a diamond-shaped midfielder four, and got a lot of CMs to fill those positions. Also, he signed a lot (perhaps too many) CMs because he saw how Wellens, King and Abe faded when the long Championship season dragged on. Are Nugent and Beckford not upgrades on Fryatt, Waghorn and Howard? This isn't necessarily an endorsement of Sven's strategy and tactics (IMO teams need wingers in this league and I think LCFC are better off with Dyer in the lineup). But Sven wasn't just throwing shit against the wall and seeing what would stick when he signed his players this summer.
Webbo Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 I always liked Sven, still do as a person but we were going nowhere under him. Even though at the time I thought they had sacked him too soon, in hindsight it was the right decision.
Tielemans63 Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 I always liked Sven, still do as a person but we were going nowhere under him. Even though at the time I thought they had sacked him too soon, in hindsight it was the right decision. Agree with all of the above. I wanted him to turn it around but in my eyes he had lost the players - we were totally rudderless at the end of his reign. The players said as much afterwards.
paddy Agyemang Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Bullshit Sven you would have spent all our money tho
Foxhateram Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 I like Sven but his best day's are well behind him. He didn't do his homework on our league (which he admits) and got caught out. The players had lost faith in him and therefore it was time for him to go. All the best for the future Sven
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Spending lots of money doesn't get you promotion, take Southampton for example, top of the league and hardly spent anything! Also Reading and blackpool, they are both in the Play Offs without spending much money
MC Prussian Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Spending lots of money doesn't get you promotion, take Southampton for example, top of the league and hardly spent anything! Also Reading and blackpool, they are both in the Play Offs without spending much money Southampton were able to hold onto a nucleus of good players and build upon a successful League One campaign, all with the same manager. The player situation at Reading is similar and Blackpool managed to keep the core of the team that took them up to the Premier League, also all under the same manager. Hardly comparable to Leicester.
Kitchandro Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 This. Although results wise we started this year pretty poorly, i remain thankful to Sven for the job he did when he first took over last season- when I saw some of the best football i've ever seen us play. Just a shame we lacked consistency and our run came to an end. Yeh I'll give him that. If we had kept that team, signed Fernandes and played him in his correct position, signed Nuge and Kasper, and brought in good (not average) defenders, and the players performed to the level we were in January/February, we might have had a great side this season.
Karljohn Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Looking back he wasnt that special, we played some great football at times but our away form under him was shocking, I will never understand why he couldnt fix the awayday problem, and when we did eventually get a shutout away we drew 0-0 week after week, he was simply out of touch and how he ever thought Mills was worth anything over 1m I will never know. Average manager dining out on past glories.
Salieri Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 I harbour no bad feelings towards Sven. He made a few very good signings for us but unfortunately for him, couldn't get them to gel quickly enough. Hope he goes on to be a success elsewhere.
Foxhateram Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Sven would of made us win tonight with his smooth team talks! NP OUT!
iamafox Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Sven would of made us win tonight with his smooth team talks! NP OUT! I'd take it that you're a Pearson hater then?
Foxhateram Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 I'd take it that you're a Pearson hater then? Yer god damn hate him! worst manager we have ever had! Bring back KELLY, I convinced Milan to appoint him you know!
iamafox Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Yer god damn hate him! worst manager we have ever had! Bring back KELLY, I convinced Milan to appoint him you know! Worst manager we've ever had? Are you serious? Took us to the League 1 title and on the brink of the Championship play-off final in his 2 years in charge! And he has the greatest win ratio of any permanent Leicester manager! How is he the worst manager we've ever had? It was Milan's fault that he let him go in the first place!

I have actually met him, he was a guest speaker at one of my coaching courses. A really sound bloke, who knows exactly what a TEAM needs. Gave me some pearls of wisdom as well. (No not in the form of a necklace, before anyone says that!)
