broughtonblue Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Now the season is over it's surely time to let this young man have some game time and gain some experience, when he played against Swindon he looked really promising. With this most likely howards last season (hopefully!) at least let Tom on the bench if he is not to start.
Tuna Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 loan him out to a conference team. experience playing competetive mens fotball will help his development. Not ready for our first team. Jon Stevenson looked promising years ago but look what happened to him.
Mack Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 From what I've read here lately on the back of a 5 minute cameo this lad will have Messi quaking in his boots about next year's Ballon d'Or.
The People's Hero Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Might as well play a bloody Space Hopper for the service he's likely to get.
Jimmy Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 may as well have him on the bench instead of Howard who offers nothing and doesn't have a future with us
Guesty Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 I dunno if he's ready yet. I think some people view our youth players with rose tinted glasses. Like Jeff Schlupp, has a lot of promise but the only good performance he put in this season was against a mid table League 2 team. But the way some people go on about him you'd think he was the next Messi. Whilst I see your point about thinking about next season I think it would be much more benifical for Hopper to be sent out on loan and not just chucked in at the deep end.
kingfox Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Yep half a team full of space hoppers and grasshoppers have a better chance of winning. Just because Tom Hopper played 10 minutes, and he's from a youth team everyone thought he was god. Personally he looked alright, but not worthy of a place in the team.
scousefox4 Posted 6 March 2012 Posted 6 March 2012 Let's do what other teams do when nothing to play for & give some of the young lads a run out in the 1st team , the likes of Hopper Taft & Moore would gain great experience from this .

broughtonblue Posted 7 March 2012 Author Posted 7 March 2012 I was at that game, and as I said at the time I'm absolutely sure I only saw him touch the ball once... Showed no nerves, a few good touches and made some intelligent runs, plus one decent effort on goal. The only way young players improve is game time against better opponents, with reference to my op, I didn't say start him every match but have him on the bench and give him half hour or so to build his confidence up. Think some people have taken what I said out of context?

Do you not think trying to work with your first team and try and improve them for next year would be a better idea, rather than chucking a load of young lads in the team? If the manager believes they are close to being able to step up then they might be involved. But there is no point in just chucking people in the the sake of it.
Thracian Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 Do you not think trying to work with your first team and try and improve them for next year would be a better idea, rather than chucking a load of young lads in the team? If the manager believes they are close to being able to step up then they might be involved. But there is no point in just chucking people in the the sake of it. And you don't think we can do both? Cos I think we can and we can also develop some "attitudes" towards working as a unit and attacking teams consistently and conviction. We need fast defenders to do this - not pedestrian so-called stoppers like Morgan - and we need to attend to the details I've mentioned on many an occasion. I'd love to talk to our owners. I'd give em a list of requirements for increasing our playing efficiency and the ways to do it. We clearly need a master tactician and supreme motivator for a start. Bristol are a fairly predictable side in terms of their capabilities and their approach to games. Yet we failed to deal with them. It's as nonsensical as picking the same team if it's winning. Each game is different with the need to deal with different problems. While I wouldn't normally advocate massive changes in personnel, because that causes problems in itself, we need to recognise a) Who we have to deal with and b) What is not functioning properly in our own team - whatever the ongoing results. Pearson tries to give the impression he's tough, and even ruthless in dealing with such things as dissent. But being tough and ruthless is about winning consistently and picking the players to win even though you might hate their guts or hurt someone's feelings. It is also about being prepared to drop your own son or brother if you believe it best. Real ruthlessness is one of the things that has made Ferguson so successful. We just don't have it, otherwise we'd have days when we slaughter the opposition. But no ... whenever we ever get in front we inevitably concede the initiative and somehow always give the opposition a morsel of hope. In the end, of course, someone takes advantage.
Kitchandro Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 I'd rather have him on the bench than Howard. We should be looking to the future. My new claim to fame is he tried to get off with my sister at Republic

Kitchandro Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 What was the previous one? erm.....I met Savage and Claridge when I was 5.... Oh and I'm pretty sure my Uncle sold Fidel Castro a machine or something, may need that confirmed.
pea Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 Oh and I'm pretty sure my Uncle sold Fidel Castro a machine or something, may need that confirmed. So wonderfully vague!
nothin2seehere Posted 7 March 2012 Posted 7 March 2012 Until it comes to the point that it is impossible to gain the number of points needed for a playoff spot, play a real 1st team. People here were writing us off after every game played after October. Even when we did get into 6th spot for a brief time, it proved anything is possible.
