Daggers Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Key tip: keep him happy In your opinion, would he appreciate "fans" booing his name, screaming for him to be substituted, flicking the V's at him and so on? No? Strange. It seems to have become a very popular method of motivation at Leicester over recent seasons.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 i bet you are regretting those words Yes and No, i have always said i will gladly eat my words if he comes good eventually and to a large degree he has got alot better in more recent games and chipped in with more goals etc etc, long may that continue. However i would add as others have already stated the first half of this season he (like most of the team) was nowhere near good enough and so i dont change my opinion on what has previously happened before his current run of good form
BoneDog Posted 16 March 2012 Posted 16 March 2012 Loved his second goal the other night. The nod down he did to keep the ball moving was lovely stuff.
Happy Fox Posted 17 March 2012 Posted 17 March 2012 http://www.dailystar...maine-Beckford/ MY GOAL-DEN TOUCH CAN TAKE US TO WEMBLEY, SAYS JERMAINE BECKFORD JERMAINE BECKFORD went from shattered dreams to shattered windscreens when Chelsea showed him the door. Now the man with the astonishing FA Cup record goes back to Stamford Bridge hoping to do his own bit of ghostbusting. The Leicester striker is the man with the Midas touch in the Cup and now his old club are in his sights. Beckford, 28, goes into tomorrow’s quarter-final clash on a real roll – five goals in the competition already. He scored a hat-trick in the 4-0 win over rivals Nottingham Forest and then got both in the 2-0 win over Swindon. But his most famous Cup giant-killing act came about when he felled mighty Manchester United on their own patch back in 2010. Beckford, then playing for Leeds, scored the goal that sent United tumbling out in the third round for the first time under Sir Alex Ferguson. As if grabbing every newspaper headline in the country for that spectacular feat wasn’t enough, Beckford slammed in two against Tottenham in the next round before Leeds went out in a replay. He’s hot right now and hoping to show Chelsea just what they missed out on. Two goals in midweek boosted Leicester’s bid for the play-offs in a 3-1 win over Birmingham. Beckford spent three years with Chelsea’s academy and youth teams before being released. He combined a job fitting windscreens for the RAC with banging in goals at Wealdstone before the league scouts started flocking to games. By the time Leeds came calling, Beckford was ready to show he wasn’t finished with football . Elland Road found a new hero as Beckford built up a big reputation with 72 goals from 126 appearances. Beckford said: “I had £40 to last the month and I was only in the second week. I’ve had to scrimp and scrape. I’ve worked for the RAC, in sports shops ... all sorts.” So the glamour of a return to Stamford Bridge won’t be lost on the lad from Ealing who is at a loss to explain just why his Cup runneth over with goals. He said: “I don’t treat the Cup games any differently but I have some very good memories of the competition. The goal for Leeds at Old Trafford was obviously very special for both me and Leeds fans – and then to score twice at Tottenham was brilliant. “It’s a great competition that means a lot to everyone and the big win over our local rivals Forest means a lot to the Leicester fans.” But Beckford admits that trying to shoot big-spending Leicester back into the top flight remains the top goal. “Cup runs can be great for players and the fans, but climbing the table is the priority,” he said. And while Foxes fans dream of a semi-final trip to Wembley, some may not be aware that Beckford has bitten Chelsea once before with some real Roy of the Rovers magic. He scored what has widely been accepted as one of the all-time great goals for Everton on the last day of the 2010-11 season. Beckford stole the ball from Frank Lampard on the edge of Everton’s penalty area and left players flailing in his wake as he stormed to the other end to score past Petr Cech. It was the only goal of the game and left Goodison boss David Moyes gasping: “Roy of the Rovers lives on! It’s the sort of thing you’d read in a magazine. Unbelievable!” But while that goal signalled the end of Carlo Ancelotti’s reign as Chelsea boss, it also proved to be Beckford’s parting shot. The then-Leicester boss Sven Goran Eriksson came calling and he decided it was time to move on. He said: “Some people say it’s a step backwards, but I don’t because of the size of the club and what I feel can be achieved. “I can see this club going places. There were one or two other offers but it was the ambition of the club that attracted me. Fingers crossed, we can make it happen.”

Underdog Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 Terrible performance against Chelsea No runs into space, no outlet for midfield Bad attitude again and milked his goal like he'd scored the winner, standing there arms aloft for ages soaking up the adulation Generally just pi$$ed me off all game Hopefully he's taken a look at Torres. Forget the obvious gulf in class, Torres must be low on confidence but put in a real shift and got the rewards. He tried. Beckford did not. Grrrr...frustrating!!

Haters gon' hate Celebrated like he scored the winner? Bad attitude? He pointed at Danns and showed appreciation for him making it.... Chased well, was better on the ball, always offered. Played well. Don't have a clue how you think he was terrible. See the ratings thread...

Really thought Beckford might have been up for yesterday's game, but he clearly wasn't. He could and maybe should have been taken off before his goal. Hope Schlupp gets a run in the starting line-up before the end of the season. Beckford isn't a team player (despite the pre-match posturing) and isn't going to win us promotion.

You obviously wasn't at yesterdays game then. Beckford not making runs? You mad? Beckford is a very intelligent player, he made lots of runs and was always in space to receive the ball however was the ball passed to him? No.
Charl91 Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 Beckford wasn't too bad against Chelsea, and got a goal. Can't please some people.....

21st Century Fox Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 I can't understand the criticism of him yesterday, he was always on the shoulder of the defender, but every high ball into him was cut out because we were playing a different class of defender. He was pretty much having to rely on any slip ups made by them as opposed to any creativity in delivery from us. He seemed to be playing as a lone* striker for most of the time with Nugent playing more down the left. He was certainly up for it, if you watched it on TV you would probably have missed the times he was trying to get the ball back from our supporters quickly to get the corners taken and giving them a thumbs up when they did throw the ball back. On a separate note, I was really impressed with the support the Chelsea lot gave Torres before he'd even scored, they were chanting his name with every effort he made. I can't imagine any of our lot ever having that sort of patience for a player.
Charl91 Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 He seemed to be playing as a loan striker for most of the time No, we definitely signed him!

He always put the effort in and got his reward yesterday, albeit against a weak lower-league defence. When you see Mikel of all people outjumping Beckford for aerial challenges, as happened yesterday, something is seriously wrong. And how often did he hold the ball up for us? Surely this should be a basic requirement for a lone striker? I can see why Everton were happy to get rid. Maybe we should look to do the same.

I'm not comparing Beckford to Torres in that respect, I mean our general impatience with players. Even if he had been able to head the ball there was rarely anyone around him to head to other than Chelsea players. The delivery was so unimaginative, he was basically having to rely on them missing the headed clearance and running off their shoulder. Nugent was almost on the left wing for long periods so he had no one to hold the ball up for on most occasions. I'm not saying he played brilliantly but alot of the criticism aimed at him yesterday could be applied to most of the team.

Sorry, I meant Essien.. The point was, though, Beckford made no serious effort to compete. That failing was all too evident throughout the game yesterday, as it has been for too much of his season.

John Obi Mikel - 6' 2" Jermaine Beckford - 6' 2" That is possibly one of the most ridiculous paragraphs i have ever seen from you. and that is saying something. Edit: Just read your ammendment. Even so, Essien is one of the most athletic & fit footballers in the premier league when fit. Plus Jermaines frow added at least 3" yesterday!

And got in a good position to get another during the scramble in the penalty area when Lloyd sat on the ball.
Guest Col city fan Posted 19 March 2012 Posted 19 March 2012 HE SCORED AGAINST CHELSEA! And got in a good position to get another during the scramble in the penalty area when Lloyd sat on the ball. Beckford: Good goal taker... Give him a sniff and he will typically take it. Overall game.... Remains poor. His inability to shield the ball and retain possession puts us under pressure far too often. Would I keep him? I really dunno... The jury is still out for me.. How about this? Sign someone who can BOTH finish AND retain possession AND score with his head? Is that impossible. The Saints have done it with Lambert for example. This isn't a Beckford bash.. It's merely wondering whether we can in fact, get better?
