Lovely, I'm so glad you shared.

I've been driving for 3 years but yet to own my own car and probably won't for another couple of years so unfortunately can't do the whole thing.

Think my dream car would be a Lamborghini Gallardo.

Budgens car park mate. It was magical.

a) The first car you

owned

(not your dads) and it's demise

a white citroen saxo, bought it for £1,000 from an old couple in Aylestone. crashed it into the back of a brand new BMW on greengate lane. wrote off both cars.

b) The worst car you've owned (reliability, street cred, financial outlay etc

)

my second car was a peugeot 106 and it was an absolute ringer, took it to a garage and they said itd been written off previously and the chassis was twisted. deathtrap aparently.

c) The best car or most memorable (in positive terms... could include first encounter with the opposite sex)!

my third car was a citroen saxo vtr in cherry red and at 19 years old i was in love. thoroughly enjoyed driving it anywhere and everywhere. used to wash it every saturday i was literally in love. had a bump in it (not my fault this time) on the a6 towards birstall and it was written off sadly. miss that car

d) The car you currently own (or lease from work)

a moonstone blue (silver!) peugeot 206 gti. great car although its now 13 years old and picking up a few wear and tear issues. also some c*nt bumped into it in at asda car park and then drove off and never got the bastards on CCTV. still not got it fixed. its just a car at the end of the day. im boring like that now.

e) The car you would realistically most like to own, classic or modern

realisiticly it'd be something boring like a renault megane 225 sport or a vauxhall astra VXR (yes im a boyracer at heart look at my previous and current cars!)

but obviously i'd love something like a lamborghini gallardo or bentley continental.

as you can see i'm a big fan of french cars! cheap and cheerful!

I had a VTR in Poseidon Blue. Loved it.

Caused me a lot of grief trying to sort out an engine problem but I didn't mind.

They were such brilliant, relatively cheap little hot hatches.

such a shame that most VTR owners are dicks with loud exhausts and shopping lists down the side of it. can safely say this wasn't me, genuine enthusiast!!! loved it. would own another one in a heartbeat but a bit small for me tbh

1st Car, A Nissan Micra I brought of my mums company as it was going cheap, lasted 2 years before I wrote it off.

Worst Car, Nissan Micra, added alloys, lowered it, stereo ect, all worth more than car, looking back what a waste of time and money.

Best Car, Focus ST-2 5-door, practical for the family but so much fun to drive, performance with everyday use. Fully Loaded as well, touchscreen sat nav, duel zone climate control, parking sensors and camera, bluetooth, voice control the works I actually loved that car.

Current, A3 sportback, replacement for the ST as the fuel costs were killing me with my wife off on maternity on reduced pay. however she is back at work now so it will become her car soon.

Realistic Car, I will be buying another ST before the year is out, just for my 20 mile round trip to work. if i had the inclination to save up though I would by an RS, now i don't need the 5 doors everyday.

Yep, kept mine original! And I was careful when I bought it not to get one that hadn't been fiddled about with.

a) The first car you owned (not your dads) and it's demise:

DSCF0011.jpg

VW Polo coupe, Bought off me Mam for a few hundred quid, fitted 15's, lowered 60mm, silly other bits (worked at halfords at the time before people start :thumbup:). Loved it but was too slow (was only a 1 litre), kind of regret selling it now.

b) The worst car you've owned (reliability, street cred, financial outlay etc):

Peugeot 306 1.9td. Pile of shite. Cost me 2200 quid sold it a year later for 1000. Hated it with a passion and now will never own a french car again.

c) The best car or most memorable (in positive terms... could include first encounter with the opposite sex)!:

P3180077.jpg

My second mini. Changed the engine to a 1275 and drove from leic to porthmadog on the west coast of wales pretty much the day after. had some major issues and this was the pic I took as I pulled up at home afterwards.

d) The car you currently own (or lease from work):

Nissan Primera 1.6. Trying to sell it though as looking for a Polo Breadvan and Another mini thats sitting on the Driveway waiting to be fixed... Again

e) The car you would realistically most like to own, classic or modern:

VW Splitscreen Camper Van. I WILL own one of these one day. Even if I have to sell everything I own.

a) The first car you owned

Vauxhall Victor 2.0l Estate covered in bodged repairs, a choke permanently on and the great big bench front seat, ideal for getting up close and personal. It was like an ocean-going tanker and I adored it. My Dad had it scrapped on a Sunday morning while I was sleeping because he said it made us look like gypsies.

b) The worst car you've owned (reliability, street cred, financial outlay etc)

£50 bought me a fine Polski Fiat. Within 5 minutes of handing over the cash we drove to the petrol station a couple of minutes away. We never made it - the thing blew and within an hour had been taken away by a recovery firm never to be seen again.

c) The best car or most memorable

My Jeep 'Woody' Grand Wagoneer in Venezuela cost me £5 for a tank-full of petrol, a six-pack of beer and 20 Marlborough Reds. The aircon and stereo worked, it was the size of a house and made Toyota Land Cruisers look pathetic.

d) The car you currently own

1993 1275cc Mini Sprite - There is nothing like driving a little old Mini; feeling every bump in the road, smelling the engine through the vents, hugging corners - it's the nearest a car gets to the experience of riding a motorbike (which is an altogether cleverer form of transport).

e) The car you would realistically most like to own, classic or modern

Citroen H van It's gorgeous, dripping with character and would accomodate the family weekends away. Plus, it would make queues a mile long behind it everywhere we went.

There's not a modern car I like, they all look the same and most of them are driven by wankers who m,ust have got their driving licences off the internet given that they can't reverse park, indicate, hold lane discipline or understand the terms 'speeding', 'patience' and 'lane positioning'.

I love you you grumpy old bastard, and I want that Jeep. A lot.

First Car - D reg Ford Escort popular.

Worst Car - see above! It was such a s**t heap. Cost me 50 quid, with a years tax and MOT on it. The sunroof leaked, in fact everything leaked. If it rained I had a puddle in the drivers footwell. All I had to listen to was atlantic 252, no FM on the radio and the casette player didn't work. It was 4 gears of pure power, 0-60 in never. The drivers side rear quarter panel had rotten that much around the bumoer fixings if I hit 40 it flapped in the wind, sounded like I had a hostage in the boot, knocking on the boot lid. During the winter I had more frost on the inside of my windscreen than I did on the outside. And to top it all off, it cost me 900 quid to insure it!!!!!!! After I passed my test I got stopped 9 times in 18 months by the police. One particular evening a friendly copper pulled me over, just a general check he said. Told me they had to be careful with cars like mine as they were the sort that got nicked for joy rides......... I laughed in his face

Best Car - See below

Current Car - Ford Focus ST. She's a beauty!! An absolute joy to drive, thirsty as hell, but well worth it. Especially for the look on a Merc or BMW drivers face when you smoke them off at the lights in a Focus with a Volvo truck engine

I also had a car that would fall into both best and worse categories, Citroen Xsara VTS. She was lovely too, sleek design. So comfortable and lovely to drive. But it failed every MOT I ever put it through on emissions. I changed every O2 sensor!

Dream car - Not very realistic but an AC cobra or a Jag XJ220

Dream Car

Ford Focus Sport RS Lime Green - it looks very 'chavy' but i love it, the colour is great as well

b) The worst car you've owned (reliability, street cred, financial outlay etc) - Pug 407 - I do actually really like this car, lovely ride and handling, but it tends to break, spent 2.5k on repairs in the last year on it. I still have this car.

First Car - Ford Fiesta Ghia 1.25. I liked it. It was quite old but only had about 15,000 miles on the clock when I got it. Fun car, but just rubbish for motorway cruising and I was watching Leicester quite a bit at the time and doing a lot of driving about with work. Thats not to say I changed it for something more sensible. We'll come to that. I was sort of forced to sell it when a really fat mate of mine caused the suspension to be basically fu cked. Another mate patched it up and I chopped it in and got more in value than I'd paid for it. A very rare car buying/selling TPH success story.

Worst Car - Definitely the car I shared with my wife for about 4 months. It was a peugeot 307 I think. Diesel, underpowered, unresponsive handling, stupid seating position, very high off the road, felt like a boat. Also had a stupid recurring problem with the air intake. It was absolutely horrible and everything I hate about crap cars (I'm one of those that likes driving). The ride was appalling despite the lack of handling. It did about 8,000 miles to the gallon though. There was more plastic on it, on the outside, inside, all over it than I've seen on a car before or since. When there was loads wrong with it we again patched it up and sold it to webuyanycar. They really do buy any car. Mugs. I honestly hope that car has been scrapped now. Everytime I see someone driving one I look at them with pity.

Best Car - All rounder definitely my Ford Mondeo ST 220 which I love. Still the most comfortable, best handling, fastest, well appointed and finished car I've owned and driven. I adored this car. That is high praise indeed I know, but really, for a Ford it was really good. Even the standard spec was pretty good but this had full leather, climate control, heated seats, sat nav etc etc etc. I would still like to have one, I had a silver one - but I'd go for a blue one. Sold it because it just didn't do enough miles to the gallon, petrol was getting dear and I got a good offer for the car.

Good Memories thought of my MR2, which I managed to slide sideways in to a big kerb in the wet. Awful, awful car in the wet. Carefree times those.

Current - Audi 1.6 TDi S-Line. Good. But boring. I actually sort of don't like it. Its mechanically great and it works - and delivers good mpg, is reliable and looks pretty good but its just lifeless, soulless and dull. I won't remember the car. Its a company car and apparently next up I can go for an A5 or similar, which I might - or have a Jag XF - which I'd prefer, but I'll have to look at the tax implications

Dream Car - There's a few but the one I keep coming back to is the Maserati GT. A mate of mine actually has one. And an Aston Martin DB7. Git.

I would similarly like a DB3, an old big Jag (even a sovereign!) or a fast Alfa. Actually, sod it, I'll have an old Alfa Spider.

I'd really like one of those , Trav , but they've just put wheels on a helicopter and made the rotors fold up .

The tax is the killer. I was going to go for a BMW 520d SE off my car list, but it will cost be about £16k over 3 years. For which I can buy a 5 year old 330d with all the trimmings and have much left over.

Posted

I barely earn £16k in 3 years.

But working in insurance means you get to feast on the blood of virgins and the flesh of babies.

How is a cup of vintage Ultra?

Interesting Danny. I've considered getting one of these in estate, because you can get fairly decent (on paper) ones for relatively little money. But obviously there's a reason why they're so cheap. I've been thinking about the reliability aspect because that's the main concern with them. Shame because, as you say, they're nice cars.
