Jace Posted 4 April 2012 Posted 4 April 2012 As much as I do like Pearson this whole unable to have big egos in our team is beginning to worry me. To be successful surely we need some players that show a bit of expression. We can't just get rid of a player everytime they speak up we don't want a squad full of sheep either this is a football team we are trying to build
Happy Fox Posted 4 April 2012 Posted 4 April 2012 As a midtable championship team can we really aspire to get a better striker than Jermaine Beckford? I think not. Yeah I think we can, they may not have the quality to play in the prem someone like Jay Rodriguez would be my shout, or going for Ched Evans, Jordan Rhodes etc. If Pearson genuinely feels that Beckford is not part of his plans then fair enough, but he has been playing him in most of the games (although to be fair for a lot of those games we've only been able to pick from Nugent, Beckford, Howard and Hopper) which suggests to me that he does value him as a player. I think the appropriate reaction is an "in-house" discipline/talk and a reconcillation of sorts. Pearson needs to underline what he expects from his players and Beckford needs to explain why he wouldn't follow "orders". Pearson needs to tread carefully here. As does Beckford. I honestly don't think we can attract a striker to the club that would be better than Beckford (that's not to say that we couldn't sign a good player that blossom's for us) and I think if Pearson drives him out on principle, where a clear up is very possible, then that would be madness.
Captain... Posted 4 April 2012 Posted 4 April 2012 Does anyone else think this could have been avoided by Pearson being a bit more press savvy. All he has to do in the post match interview is say: "There was a disagreement on the pitch, emotions were running high, it probably looked a lot worse than it was, but these things happen in football. It has already been dealt with after the match that is the end of the matter." He did the same thing with Mills, by trying to not talk about he made it so much worse, even if it is utter bollox and he wants to string Beckford up by the danglies, it just avoids all of this speculation, externally the matter appears closed, even if internally there will still be repercussions. Whereas now the opposite is probably true, internally it has all been dealt with, but the papers keep on dragging it up and will only serve to make matters worse and increase speculation and dissent amongst the fans.
LCFC_Peter Posted 4 April 2012 Posted 4 April 2012 Sell Beckford and get someone who gives 100000% every game like nugent!
HEGGSY Posted 4 April 2012 Posted 4 April 2012 Sell Beckford and get someone who gives 100000% every game like nugent! It's impossible to give more than 100%
beemeroo Posted 4 April 2012 Posted 4 April 2012 It's impossible to give more than 100% Even 100% would suggest they drop dead at the end of the 90minutes from exhaustion and I'd rather we didn't have any of that.
Leicester_Numan Posted 4 April 2012 Posted 4 April 2012 I'm sure it's all just a coincidence that Beckford had done nothing till the transfer window in January. We put in bids for Sharp & Vardy and he starts scoring. The loan window closes and he stops and has a bad attitude. Is it just me or does Beckford really only score when HE wants? Anyone else hear the rumour that Grant Holt is coming here in the summer?

cc_star Posted 4 April 2012 Posted 4 April 2012 As much as I do like Pearson this whole unable to have big egos in our team is beginning to worry me. We can't just get rid of a player everytime they speak up we don't want a squad full of sheep either this is a football team we are trying to build Still to see an example of Pearson doesn't like egos, it's just bullshit that pervades Everyone mentioned from Gradel through to SSL's reaction that he not the manager should pick the team, NP has been right... No one knows what happened with Mills & I'm sure Beckford's lack of willingness to go up for a last minute freekick has been dealt with I can't see the issue at all, apart from people in forums discussing what their friend of a friend of a friend, dog's cat's mother's uncle has said, and doing so so much that papers look for an easy story and write it up, this then starts the whole circle again I wouldn't say Fergie couldn't manage egos for ending the ManUtd careers of Beckham & Keane... or that Scholes & Giggs are sheep
Happy Fox Posted 4 April 2012 Posted 4 April 2012 I echo this chaps sentiments on the matter the OP off Bentleys make a good case http://fansonline.net/leicestercity/mb/view.php?id=507139 If I liked cornflakes I would have choked over them reading the stuff about Beckford. Okay he did take time to settle in, and I probably slagged him as much as anyone for that. However he has delivered since he bedded in, and him and Nugent are as good a strike force as exists in the Championship. NFP bucks the job up by playing Nugent wide for some mysterious reason and now because Beckford had the temerity to have a go at him in the dressing room he wants him out as well. I appreciate dissing the boss is not the brightest idea ever, but look at the timing. This row happened immediately after a defeat that sunk Beckfords hopes, and everyone elses, of a return to the Prem. Tempers were bound to be frayed, things would be said that shouldn't have been and would be regretted before closing time. Anyone who has played football at any level would have been there. And yet big tough NFP wants rid over a few presumably harsh words. NFP has said that he still hasn't given up on making the play offs, well if he sends the team out against Donny without his most in form striker is he deliberately trying to sabotage that hope? Look at the list over the season, St Ledger, Mills and now Beckford in dispute. What's the common denominator to all three, NFP of course. I fear the Thais will see the opportunity to get rid of a big wage earner and back Pearson on this. But I fear even more for the chances of us going up next season. You think NFP can sign good players in the summer? Then ask yourself this. Who wants to work for a bully ? Pearson OUT now.

Leicester_Numan Posted 4 April 2012 Posted 4 April 2012 As i said, the Grant Holt thing is just a rumour. It came from a Norwich fan on one of the chat boards. There's nothing more to it than that from my side. I was just wondering if anyone else had heard the same thing. It'd be great if that one was true

Captain... Posted 4 April 2012 Posted 4 April 2012 Why do people keep on throwing the SSL thing in NP's face? SSL wanted first team football, NP, rightly, couldn't guarantee that, so he was placed on the transfer list, not becuase NP wanted him out the club, but because he wasn't first choice and he couldn't make him first choice just because SSL wanted to be first choice. In the time SSL was on the transfer list he wasn't frozen out or made ot play with the reserves, he was still a part of the squad and was called upon when needed. I don't think either SSL or NP did anything wrong in that scenario. So that leaves Matt Mills, we still don't know what happened there. So now Beckford, where everyone is up in arms about something that may or may not happen, and based on nothing but speculation. Lets just wait and see what happens on Saturday, or Leicester make an official statement. Otherwise you are all just getting yourselves worked up over nothing.

Errm we had to change from a front 2 due to only having 1 fit & unsuspended midfielder at the club, do you think Drinky would have come in replacing Wellens leaving a pairing of Danns & Drinky if it was possible? This would leave the front 2 intact & I think our form which saw us give ourselves a chance would have continued Your point therefore breaks down Nugent, by his standards was off the boil even in the front 2... Beckford was playing well in the 2 & continued to do so as a front 1... a role which he did well in the Prem for Everton
Leicester_Numan Posted 4 April 2012 Posted 4 April 2012 Can you get on the Orange chat boards from a PC? I've only ever been able to do it from my phone. Love to help but don't think i can

The fact Pearson came out and said "He is fine and there is no rift" and on the radio said there was "nothing malicious or untoward" when talking about SSL says a lot. Everyone knows he shuts up shop if there is a problem.
LeicesterAreGoingUp Posted 4 April 2012 Posted 4 April 2012 IF beckford, goes which i doubt he will, we should use the money to buy Ebanks Blake (wolves) or Emile Sinclair (P'boro). both goalscorers

Depends what you mean by better. If by better, you mean "bigger name", then I'd say you're probably right. If by better you mean "more hard working, less lazy and selfish, and better goalscoring rate", then I'd say you need your head examining. If by better you mean "better value for money", then I'd be at a loss for words. If you think 8 league goals from 33 matches is good enough, We could easily find a striker who could match that for peanuts compared to Beckford's rumoured £35k a week. And what else does Jermaine give you? He can't hold up the ball, he never challenges for headers, his control is poor, he'll try and score himself when he could set a teammate up for an easy chance, and this is all when he can be bothered, which is about half the time.
The Snooty Fox Posted 4 April 2012 Posted 4 April 2012 Beckford couldn't give two hoots about Leicester. There's better strikers out there that will actually have some passion for the club. Get Waggy back quick......
Charl91 Posted 4 April 2012 Posted 4 April 2012 Why do people always say "league goals"? Is it because if they mention all the goals in the season, then they realise that he has a similar rate to nugent, and that it makes their argument look stupid? Why is it that if JB doesn't score then he's "lazy" (untrue - as mentioned before, he ran all the way back to defend") and a "prima-donna" (Based on nothing much....), yet while JB has had a bad few games, Nugents bad run of form has continued much longer then that. Most of the criticism aimed at JB is all conjecture, where people have formed an opinion because he doesn't look to be showing "passion". People were bumming JB when he went through his scoring patch, but a few rough games and the fickle fans come out of the wood-work again. Yes, he sucked at the start, but his scoring rate has been fine since 2012. He's also one of the only players we have that is good enough to get us promoted. People are just determined to hate him, just like they were with the Yak last season. Leicester fans can be infuriatingly stupid and so very fickle. I really hope he does leave and scores for fun somewhere else. can't hold up the ball, he never challenges for headers, his control is poor, he'll try and score himself when he could set a teammate up for an easy chance, and this is all when he can be bothered, which is about half the time. I'l agree that his control is poor. The rest is bollocks.
