Father Ted Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 If I had to choose between the two I would go for Terry, a much better centre back at this moment in time and could forge a partnership with Cahill. In reality, I would take neither as I can't stand either as people, especially as I feel Cahill, Lescott, Richards and Jagielka would all be responsible enough to play at CB. It could also take some pressure off.
Haydos Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 Those of you saying neither, you'd rather have Cahill, Jags, Lescott and Smalling? Brilliant.

Cahill needs to get international experience as he will probably be the first choice centre back for the next world cup. Richards should be starting at right back, but can provide cover inside if necessary.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 Neither, if you play the likes of Germany with there ball movement they will tear you a new arse hole..........again!
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 None, they've both had there time and let the young players have a chance!
accessory Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 Lescott, Cahill and Jagielka is a horrendously weak set of centre backs if we are actually trying to get anywhere in this tournament, in my opinion. I think the whole squad is so hard to call for the first time since I can remember. The centre backs especially, and even the whole back four really, have picked themselves without a question for the past 10 years or more. Now I reckon, bar Hart, Cole and Rooney (once fit), every position is genuinely questionable. Will be very interesting to see who Hodgson picks. Didn't Lescott and Jagielka play together against Spain? Cahill, if fit, would be a decent back-up too. On recent form,.both Terry and Ferdinand would be bombscares these days at international level.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 10 May 2012 Posted 10 May 2012 Lescott has had a better season than the pair of them, personally.
Fox in the North Posted 10 May 2012 Posted 10 May 2012 For me, lescotts done better with man city this season and Cahill is finding his feet at Chelsea, never had anything wrong against jagielka. I'd like to say both for footballing reasons but I feel that they are both too old, they've been nowhere near as solid this season, irrelevant of the back up available I think it's time we moved on and let the others step up to the plate. If it goes wrong in this tournament? So what? We've only just appointed a new manager the past few weeks. Im hoping for a six nations attitude from the team
Mack Posted 10 May 2012 Posted 10 May 2012 I'd leave both at home. Ferdinand can still make the grade but is very injury prone, Terry is past his best in my opinion and is poison in the squad with players taking sides over the racism accusations.
lcfcsnow Posted 10 May 2012 Posted 10 May 2012 I'd leave them both at home, along with Gerrard, Lampard and Cole. It's time to move on.
foxfanazer Posted 10 May 2012 Posted 10 May 2012 I'd leave them both at home, along with Gerrard, Lampard and Cole. It's time to move on. Cole is probably still the best left back in the world
Fox92 Posted 10 May 2012 Posted 10 May 2012 Terry. But my partneship would be Terry and Lescott. Balanced defence, with Lescott being left sided. In regards to the post above, Ashley Cole is probably still the best left back in the World. Top player.

In regards to the post above, Ashley Cole is probably still the best left back in the World. Top player. Isn't Terry usually left sided as well? I don't know which he prefers but he's always been left alongside Ferdinand and for Chelsea I think. Although probably not best in the world, I do think people forget how good Cole actually is (from a football point of view) rarely seen him have a bad game to be honest.
Captain... Posted 10 May 2012 Posted 10 May 2012 Terry should not be anywhere near the team. We need some experience in the team and a leader, it has got to be Ferdinand or Gerrard to Captain us in the Euros, then retire, let the next generation have the qualifiers to play together and prepare for 2014, as it is the other options are vastly inexperienced at international level.Jagielka/Lescott/Cahill/Jones/Richards will benefit from having Ferdinand alongside them, but they need a qualifying campaign together before they will be ready to take on the rest of Europe/the World.
Ozwin Posted 10 May 2012 Posted 10 May 2012 Those of you saying neither, you'd rather have Cahill, Jags, Lescott and Smalling? Brilliant. Well it's going to happen eventually so why not? Give them time in the same team and who knows, maybe by 2014 we'll have some decent partnerships. I see no gain in playing players who won't be in the squad next year.
AyewJoking Posted 11 May 2012 Posted 11 May 2012 I think Terry and Ferdinand would be furious if they were in the squad but not in the starting line up Both have had their chances anyway so Hodgson should tell them where they stand then its up to them if they want to be part of the squad but not necessarily play.
leicesterlad1989 Posted 11 May 2012 Posted 11 May 2012 Rio has past it, thats for sure. I think we are inexperience centre back wise, so I'd play Terry, providing he can find his pants after Liverpool tore them to shreads earlier this week. Terry and Cahill for me. I do think Lescott deserves a good crack now, especially after a good season. In terms of other positions I'd like Walker or Richards right back. Johnson is garbage.
RowlattsFox Posted 11 May 2012 Posted 11 May 2012 It's a difficult for Hodgson really, because if he takes both of them and we fail (likely) then everyone will be saying they shouldn't have gone etc etc but if we don't take either of them and still fail (also likely) then everyone will be saying we should have taken them.
