Tincy Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 Striker Didier Drogba will leave Chelsea this summer after eight years with the club. The Ivory Coast striker, 34, who scored the winning penalty in the Champions League final victory over Bayern , is set to be a free agent when his Blues contract expires next month. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18152689 Chinese super league one would think??
ScouseFox Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 One of the best in the PL era. He's won everything hasn't he? Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League. 150 goals for Chelsea, only African to score 100 PL goals, scored 9 goals in 9 cup finals. Decent. (If he didn't spend 90% of his time being a bit of a cúnt on the pitch, he'd be an absolute legend).
Corky Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 Such a shame his antics at times will sour the memory of a fine player who excelled in big games.
Finnegan Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 Gentleman off the pitch in his more mature years but a complete and total **** on it and I'm glad to see his time finally up. Undeniably brilliant athlete denied from reaching his peak by his own silly petulance and play acting.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 Such a shame his antics at times will sour the memory of a fine player who excelled in big games. I think he has toned it down slightly with the play acting in the last few years. It was a shame to see him return to his bad old ways against Barca. Also when he first came to the Prem, all he did was sulk and moan. At the end of each season for 4-5 seasons all he went on about was leaving Chelsea through one reason or another. Seemed to grow up in the last few years though and has done so much to try to improve peoples lives back in the Ivory Coast. Can be regarded as one of a handful of true greats playing in the Prem at the moment.
yorkie1999 Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 I reckon he'll go back to making dodgy soap and flogging it to the guinea government in a small factory in hinckley with his mate momo sylla http://www.shahidsheikh.co.uk/aboutshahid.shtml
Fox92 Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 Unplayable on his day... Can hold the ball up, dominant in the air, great finisher and is quick. Everything you want of a complete striker/target man. I've enjoyed watching him throughout his time in the Premier League. Top footballer, and as a football fan, you can only admire fantastic footballers.
Bert Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 Just heard on the wireless he's been there for 8 years. Couldn't quite believe it to be fair! Would love him to go to Man Utd
HEGGSY Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 What a Player. One of the best strikers to grace the PL in this generation. Strength, speed, power...He's undoubtedly a fantastic player, unfortunately ruined by his antics on the pitch that have already been mentioned It'd be a shame for him to go to Asia, he's still got a lot more to give imo.
AjcW Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 Surely he's got one prem season left? He's an 'arry signing surely? If not then PSG? Or failing that China.... which would be sad
Jon the Hat Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 Awesome. With the level of talent he has I think you have to forgive a bit of stupidity on or off the pitch. I am really pleased he won the CL for Chelsea with his last kick of the ball. What an exit. He would be mad to stay in the UK. What else is their to do? Apart from ruin his status with Chelsea. It would be like Henry playing for Utd, or Giggs signing on for Spurs for a year. Pointless and ultimately degrading.
Tom17LCFC Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 Link up with Anelka in Shanghai, experience a new culture, and get a massive final paycheck. Fair play to him, absolute beast on his day.
ScouseFox Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 Yeah I agree about him leaving. Like I said, he's done it all. Better to leave on an absolutely magical high, at the pinnacle of football than stay a few more years and slowly fade his career out making substitute appearances in a team that's finishing 4th/5th/6th. If I was him I'd probably go to PSG, although I'm pretty sure they massively hate Marseille and he used to play there so who knows. There he'd have Champs League football, probably winning the league and a massive pay cheque. He'll probably go to China though, it seems.
HEGGSY Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 Didn't Barca say they were interested? or did I imagine that?
Jon the Hat Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 I'd rather retire than move to play Chinese football. Not if you had the lifestyle of the rich and famous you wouldn't.
HEGGSY Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 I suppose I can't comment as I'm not in his position (unfortunately ) But the prospect of finishing my career in China just doesn't sound that attractive.
Guest Bilo Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 I can see him doing a year or two in China earning huge wedge then retiring to do more charitable work, or even go into politics in the Ivory Coast. He's donating serious wedge into his native country and improving the lives of Ivorians, as Finners has said the bloke is a gentleman.
GianEmmo Zola Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 Just checked out anelkas team on wiki! He is assistant manager! And their goalkeeping coach is ian walker! Haha
