Leicesterpool Posted 14 June 2012 Posted 14 June 2012 Not at all, banter's one thing. But wanking off like it's the happiest day of your life because Ireland lost to the best side in the world isn't banter or rivalry it's just you being a sad little ned. I like to see England lose but even as a Welshman I'm not tinpot enough to cry tears of joy and start going "YESSSSSSSSSSSSS **** OFF ENGLAND!" every time you lose a game. I haven't got much against the welsh, well except in the rugby! my only problem was when I went to swansea a couple years ago I didn't half notice the anti-english shirts/signs around market yet there's nothing anti-scotland there! If welsh made the world cup in 2014 I'd wish them luck but wouldn't support them.
Leicesterpool Posted 14 June 2012 Posted 14 June 2012 oh by the way this is the northern ireland flag
Finnegan Posted 14 June 2012 Posted 14 June 2012 Finners, if you look back through History, virtually every country has a reason to hate one other. The fact is that there are no Irish people still alive who would have suffered in any real sense at the hands of the English. The last major incident in which we treated them awfully was the 1916 Easter Rising. And trust me mate I know how badly England treated Ireland centuries ago, because I studied it at A-Level. But why is it still relevant now? On the other hand, Irish republicans have caused casualties in NI and England through IRA terrorist bombing much more recently. So if anything, the English should hate the Irish now. Anyhooo, I am indifferent towards Ireland, but I do feel at least a little pride that the mighty Leicester City have a player who's played (and scored) in this year's Euro's. A few fringe nationalists from Northern Ireland may have committed terrorist acts against the United Kingdom but the British government actively occupied and oppressed Ireland for a large period of their history, treated them immensely awfully and only begrudgingly granted them any independence in the last century, after a bloody exchange. We're not talking the sort of medieval grudges that the Welsh and Scots bemoan to this day, they may not be that many still alive who remember the Easter Uprising but let's not make out that it's ancient history. I think the Irish as a whole are largely well mannered about the English and most see you as just slightly arrogant neighbours but if some still do hold contempt or resentment then, I'm sorry, I think the British collectively just need to accept a little ownership for past misdeeds and let them get on with it. That's not to say we should all become apologists, not in the slightest, but fobbing it off and being dismissive is still a faux pas.
Daggers Posted 14 June 2012 Posted 14 June 2012 oh by the way this is the northern ireland flag Oh, by the way, it isn't.

Daggers Posted 14 June 2012 Posted 14 June 2012 If welsh made the world cup in 2014 I'd wish them luck but wouldn't support them. I wasn't aware they rotated manufacturing rights.
Finnegan Posted 14 June 2012 Posted 14 June 2012 Oh, by the way, it isn't. And hasn't been since the 70s.
Asha Posted 14 June 2012 Posted 14 June 2012 Wait, so, he's wanking himself silly over Ireland losing because he has some bizarre, irrational hate for them. Yet he likes Northern Ireland because of 'their flag'? Which, amusingly, he can't even seem to identify.
Guest MattP Posted 14 June 2012 Posted 14 June 2012 oh by the way this is the northern ireland flag Bout 30' years out kid.

People seem to have forgotten the impact the troubles in the North have had on people in the South. The Easter Rising may have happened early in the 20th Century but Bloody Sunday took place relatively late on in 1972 and that's not a wound that has healed as yet.

Personally, as punishment, I think his poll-creation rights should be revoked.

I am Rod Hull Posted 14 June 2012 Posted 14 June 2012 Irish hatred towards the English should be aimed at politicians and wealthy land owners of the 19th century, ho, and a special mention goes out to our one and only republican leader, Oliver Cromwell..... My conscience is clean.
Guest Bilo Posted 14 June 2012 Posted 14 June 2012 Any excuse. By the way leicesterpool, Alan Partridge is wrong.
Guest MattP Posted 14 June 2012 Posted 14 June 2012 40. Just checked that and you are right, for some reason whenever I mention something in terms of time now that goes back a while I'm at least 10 years too late, presuming it's a sign of me getting older. I got into an argument the other day on when Oasis brought out Definately Maybe and I said it was "no more than 12/13 years ago" - imagine the embarrassment when I looked it up.
foxfanazer Posted 14 June 2012 Posted 14 June 2012 oh by the way this is the northern ireland flag Are you smarter than a 10 year old?

If welsh made the world cup in 2014 I'd wish them luck but wouldn't support them. And in Stirling you wouldn't find much anti-Welsh. The Scots and Irish don't really care that much about the Welsh, or vice versa. The three do however have a problem with the English due to the way the English have treated them at certain points in history (the Scots a hell of a lot longer ago than the Welsh or Irish mind). What's your point?

The Doctor Posted 14 June 2012 Posted 14 June 2012 The Romans built that wall for a reason, you cattle stealing, French loving, hairy, skirt wearing gits.... What cattle? All I see are Scotsmen in their winter-coats.
Fox in the North Posted 14 June 2012 Posted 14 June 2012 Without sounding too young/inept/forgetful, what actually is northern Ireland's flag or don't they have an official one and it's the union jack instead? X) just need a history lesson before I make any opinions

Clearly didn't pay much attention then did you (Bloody Sunday) Be amazed if someone else hasn't pointed that out already like, have to admit a compulsively reply to complete stupidity without reading the rest of the thread. There was still serious tention when Labour came to power in the mid 90's. If you don't know what your talking about, which you seem intent on proving over and over again and a number of different subjects, pipe down
samuel Posted 15 June 2012 Posted 15 June 2012 Tension my friend, tension. I love it when folk get all above themselves and knock others with some attempt at puerile derision, only to get the basics wrong. Fail Pablo .
