Jordan Posted 26 June 2012 Posted 26 June 2012 Who knew staying awake for 11 days in a row would be poor for one's health? http://espnfc.com/us/en/news/1114008/reportfatigued-chinese-fan-dies.html
MrFox781 Posted 26 June 2012 Posted 26 June 2012 Read this few days ago. God knows what he was thinking. RIP.

acooling08 Posted 26 June 2012 Posted 26 June 2012 I don't understand why he missed sleep to watch the Euro's when each 2 games were on different days.
stix Posted 26 June 2012 Posted 26 June 2012 I don't understand why he missed sleep to watch the Euro's when each 2 games were on different days. The games were on at midnight & 2:45am where he lived. The article says he went to work after the 2nd game so i am just presuming he worked long ass hours then came home & got leathered ready for the games. My eyelids would be pulling about 4g's after the 2nd day.
foxfanazer Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 I didn't think your body would actually let you do that?! I struggle to stay awake for the football league show
Fox92 Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 It's obvious something like that would eventually catch up.. especially if he was staying up and then going to work. The body needs enough rest.
ScouseFox Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 I don't get how he did it. After, let's say a night out and an early start for school/work and about 3 hours sleep, as soon as I get home again I just fall asleep sitting down. I didn't think it was possible to just not sleep for 11 days.
James. Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 I seriously doubt he didn't actually sleep at all for that period. I don't even think it's physiologically possible to stay awake for that long unless ingesting a serious amount of drugs and even then the body's natural urge to sleep will probably overcome everything else. I imagine he probably had some very light/short naps but obviously not enough to avoid seriously damaging his health. Still slightly surprised that it killed him though, you would have thought he would recognise that something was going seriously wrong before that point and act accordingly (i.e. stop watching fúcking football and get some sleep).
Guest MattP Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 Complete and utter bollocks. He could have slept for 5-6 hours a day after work and no way would anyones body allow you to go 11 days, whatever killed him was probably nothing to do with this.
Webbo Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 If he was watching Spain, he's probably relieved to be dead.

Actually you can go for that long without sleep but it does, to put it scientifically, really fvck you up. But interestingly you can recover with seemingly no long term health issues afterwards. I learned all about sleep in Psychology (inc. sleep deprivation) and it was fascinating. One study I remember involved denying lab rats any sleep at all to observe the effects. All rats died eventually, but only after between 13 and 21 days. 2 human examples you can take a look at are Randy Gardner and Peter Tripp. Gardner stayed awake for 11 days and was fine afterwards but had these symptoms throughout the 11 days: (looked back at my textbook): - Moodiness and extreme paranoia - Hallucinations - Lack of co-ordination and extreme physical weakeness - Memory and concentration issues - Slurred and sluggish speech - Extremely blurred vision. Anyway back on topic, I doubt that this man actually lasted that long by himself without sleeping, obviously the studies required people with them 24/7 to keep them awake.
Guest Bilo Posted 28 June 2012 Posted 28 June 2012 Maybe he was half Scottish and waiting for one of his teams to make their tournament debut?
Guest MattP Posted 28 June 2012 Posted 28 June 2012 Maybe he was half Scottish and waiting for one of his teams to make their tournament debut? I doubt it, anyone I knew who was "half-Scottish" before this tournament was "a quarter Irish" by the start.
Guest Bilo Posted 28 June 2012 Posted 28 June 2012 I doubt it, anyone I knew who was "half-Scottish" before this tournament was "a quarter Irish" by the start. Even the Rangers fans?
Guest MattP Posted 28 June 2012 Posted 28 June 2012 Even the Rangers fans? I think most Bears are pre-occupied with other things at the minute.
FoxyPV Posted 28 June 2012 Posted 28 June 2012 I think most Bears are pre-occupied with other things at the minute. Twinks?

We all know the fact you studied something at school doesn't nesc mean you know much about it.
Corky Posted 29 June 2012 Posted 29 June 2012 Maybe he was half Scottish and waiting for one of his teams to make their tournament debut? One of his three teams: China, Scotland and Anyone Playing England.
Parafox Posted 29 June 2012 Posted 29 June 2012 I didn't think your body would actually let you do that?! I struggle to stay awake for the football league show And then they put 3 mins of the Leicester game on after about an hour in...
