You won't be loving it when De Laet makes it look shit.

Honestly think we need another right-back if Peltier goes, I have little confidence on the right side of defence think De Laet will get battered by the top wingers in the league.

Based on his performance(s) when?

Hopefully he will get better/more cover as well.

How fast is Whitbread on Fifa?

Er 86 with the update from January, he was around 90 acceleration before I think

"In our situation"

If we really we wanted we could go and buy a defender for £5m....

Ok, if you say so..... I was under the impression we were trying to trim our wage bill and cut costs slightly , a 5mill defender would surely demand big wages like Mills did

and how many times have you watched De Laet play right back? also just by actually getting back into his position after an attack he'll be a massive upgrade on Lee Peltier

Everyone thinking De Laet is god's gift.

He is very very average, will be worse than Peltier.

He was shit at Man Utd, he was shit Preston and he was shit at Norwich.

You just wait and see him fook up on many occasions.

How many of the three games he played for Manchester United, and four games he played for Preston did you watch then?

Maybe it was the six games at Norwich that convinced you.

I will, but he is average.

Going by the signings so far, he is the one I have the least confidence in.

He was appaling for Norwich last season, he got dropped by them then had his loan cancelled because he wasn't good enough.

SOLID backline:

Schmeichel

De Laet - Whitbread - Morgan - Konchesky

Thats not too far off a lower Prem team defence and looks a unit. Love it.

Agreed, and 3 out of the back 4 are Pearson's signings.

Would love to hear what evidence you have to support that.

He played 3 times for United's first team, and you can't honestly compare United's first team with ours. I know how highly he was rated in United's reserve set up when he was there, i watched him countless times as i live two minutes from Altrincham, where United play their reserve games. Look how well the all the members of that team have done in the championship. Dudgeon, Evans, Stewart, Brady, Wooton, Chester, Tunicliffe.

As for the others he played less than ten times for Preston and Norwich. However he did actually play well when at Portsmouth which is the only time he played more than 20 games, yet you seemed to have not even mentioned that.

The criticism is just based on absolutely nothing, so just wait and see. He will be more than solid at this level this season, don't you worry.

I'm sick of people criticising our new signings before they have even played a friendly for us, let alone a competitive match!

I hope if you ever go to a job interview that people aren't as harsh on you!

I agree with this. I think the criticism is completely unjust. You can't make an opinion based on hearsay, and I think Pearson will bring the best out of him. He is still fairly young and learning the game which with confidence and the right coach could develop his game further.

I remain opinionless until i've seen him play.

Man Utd reserves is Man Utd reserves, like many players he failed to adapt to the first team. Man Utd fans said he wasn't good enough for the step up.

Also why didn't the likes of Preston and Sheff Utd extend his loan? Simple answer, because he wasn't good enough.

I know for a fact that he was poor for Norwich last season, getting dropped then having your loan cancelled doesn't look good does it?

I just have little confidence in him, I would prefer to see a better right-back come in with better experience, and De Laet used as cover for right-back and centre-back.

Just don't think he is good enough to start, sorry to disappoint.

He went back to United after injuries, not because he wasn't good enough.

As has been said in this thread, the only club he's made a decent amount of performances for is Portsmouth and by all accounts he had a very good loan spell there, playing Championship football. I'd sooner take their opinions than Norwich fans who have only seen him play six times:

He didn't get dropped. He got injured and sent back to United. Stop making up bollocks.

Not good enough for Man United? Then what the **** is Nigel doing signing him. :@

Fact is, Peltier was poor last season.

De Laet sounds promising and I'd be more than happy in having Moore as cack up, like Kennedy is to Konchesky.

Why people moan before basing their opinion on nothing is just crazy.

Do you intentionally just ignore any rational arguments made. Of course he didn't make the step up to the United first team, Jesus that must mean he's shit then. Neither did Chester, Stewart, Wooton. But yeah because they didn't make the step up they are obviously bad players and we wouldn't have any of them in our team. Get realistic for just one minute please.

Norwich play in the Premiership, and he was injured when he returned. I accept the fact he may not have been great there but he only played 6 times! He's played as a full back for years and so him playing as a centre half in a newly promoted team with new players. He is not expected to have been a world beater.

He is young solid full back, having gained valuable experience at United for the last 4 years.

Pointless arguing with you when your opinion is based on very few facts.

Read different things, he got sent back because he was injured, but he got sent back because he was dropped and wasn't good enough.

I was looking at the Norwich line ups and by the pattern it seemed, he started then got injured, came back then got dropped to the bench then had his loan cancelled.

If you look at the line ups you can see why I thought it.

I think this generally shows that so few of us really have much idea of what the likes of DeLaet, James and Futacs will bring to the table.

I suggest that it's as foolhardy to knock them without seeing them play enough to form a strong opinion, as it is to be bigging them up to be good enough to gain promotion.

Unless you really know how good (or bad) these players are (ie having seen them play quite a few times with your own eyes) then lets just wait and see.

Apologies to those who are able to speak about them with any authority.

I guess I could count em on one hand though?

Give him time to settle down. He's only played on loan for a few games for each club he's played for. He now has time to consistently perform week in week out now that he's settling down here in Leicester. I think he will impress you and win you over, just like the other players that you don't give a chance like Drinkwater; he was the reason why Barnsley scored let alone beat us at the KP. We shall see how they both perform in the friendlies, but don't be quick to judge them.

Yes, because not making a swift step up to one of the greatest teams in the world, 19 times champions, makes you shit.

Don't they have a Brazilian national team full back playing on de laets position already??
