Corky Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 All he said was that he wasn't enjoying his football. Presumably he wanted to play more often. If he'd been playing regularly then I doubt he'd have said that.
Charl91 Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 Well, he wasn't getting game time, I don't blame him.
Ashley Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 How was he EVER captian material? For anyone who watched the pre-match, half time and post match studio talk against Southampton will have to agree he looked insecure and looked like he was about to top him self

Guest Col city fan Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 The thread should be renamed. 'Some City fans have another dig at another ex player'

LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 Former Leicester City captain Matt Oakley is considering a swansong to his career by signing for Exeter City. The 34-year-old midfielder has admitted he did not enjoy his last two years with City and said he considered retiring when he left the club at the end of last season. However, Oakley, who lifted the League One trophy as City captain, has featured in two of the Grecians' pre-season friendlies so far, and has had no reaction from the ankle injury which blighted his last season at Leicester. Now Oakley, who had a successful loan spell at St James' Park last season, is considering donning his favoured No.8 jersey for former team-mate and Exeter manager Paul Tisdale. "If everything goes well, then I would love to come back," said Oakley. "I feel good. I had a bad injury, the tendon came away from the bone in my ankle, which is quite a nasty injury, so I have to make sure the muscles around it can handle dealing without that tendon. "I have to do things in stages, so it's quite nice to play 45 minutes and not get to 65-70 minutes of a game. "I have to be patient, do it in my own time and not be silly. I have to be realistic. I am 35 next month and my body doesn't recover like it used to. "Paul has been fantastic with me and is making sure that I'm not doing anything that I shouldn't be doing, he is being very cautious with me." Oakley, right, admits all the changes at City that followed the initial departure of current boss Nigel Pearson to Hull had been difficult, but he enjoyed his initial loan spell in Devon. "I was at a point where I just wasn't enjoying football at Leicester," he said. "It was a tough time, there were lots of changes at the club and I went to Exeter and saw a different side to it. "There was a lot of structure, a lot of progressive ideas and good young players trying to play in a nice way." Oakley has a thriving wine merchant business and did consider focusing his attention on that, but said he would love to now extend his playing career if possible and added: "I wasn't looking to carry on playing. "I have just moved back to London and my girls are going back to school there, so my mind has been on that. "I had a bad injury, I had two years at Leicester that I didn't really enjoy and then a month where I really did enjoy my football at Exeter. "I love the club, I love the way that it is progressing and the way that they play football, so it was a pretty simple conversation really between me and Paul to see where I was. "Paul asked me to come down and play a few games and then take it from there." So what he should say that he was happy at leicester even though he never played really much? Both helped us back in the championship, have some respect!
Guest NGoloMode Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 If he wasn't happy why did he extend his contract another year? http://www.lcfc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10274~2323267,00.html
Corky Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 His first season as captain saw a 1st place finish. His second saw a 5th place finish at a higher level. What have the "captain material" players done since?
Harry - LCFC Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 Nice to see Oakley has followed in Donkey Howards footsteps & had a little dig at the club at the exit door ..... Millions of pounds we wasted on these 2 clowns in wages .................................................... W*********s He might not have been very good in his final season with us but that's no reason to speak about him like that, he always tried e.g. Cardiff away PO semi, and served the club well particularly in the 08/09 and 09/10 seasons. There aren't many players who play until they're 36 and I admit he wasn't good enough for the championship at that age but please don't just refer to him as rubbish or useless.

It's the way of many City fans (maybe of fans in general) to seem to want to slag ex players off. Very often those very same players who were very popular when actually at the club. It's just childish. Both Oakley and Howard were good servants for the club and if they want to vent any frustrations they might have had then they're only human.
