Jermaine Beckford made a goal-scoring start to his pre-season programme, as a City development side got a useful workout against York City on Tuesday afternoon.

Missing from the first team's first two friendlies of the summer through illness, Beckford was one of six senior pros to get some match time behind closed doors at King Power Stadium.

And within four minutes of entering the fray as a second-half substitute, the Foxes striker had headed home a Tom Kennedy cross to peg back the League 2 new boys, who provided tough opposition in a 2-2 draw.

Andy King, Marko Futacs and Matty James were part of a four-pronged cameo alongside Beckford, introduced halfway through the second half, adding valuable match minutes to their preparations for the new season. Full-back Kennedy and goalkeeper Conrad Logan completed a full 90 minutes.

Beckford is also expected to be involved in Wednesday night's first team trip to Burton Albion, along with Republic of Ireland defender Sean St. Ledger, who has yet to feature in pre-season due to his involvement at Euro 2012.

Striker Jacob Blyth, a new addition to the development group this summer, was on-target for a young City side during the first half, but goals either side had put York into a 2-1 half-time lead.

City looked the more dangerous side in the second period, particularly after the introduction of the senior pros, with Blyth seeing an excellent header cleared off the line and Tom Hopper hitting a post before Beckford's glanced equaliser following smart build-up play from Futacs and King.

Harry Panayiotou impressed after coming off the bench and James forced an excellent save from the Minstermen 'keeper late-on, but the spoils were ultimately shared.

City will now turn their attentions to Wednesday's game at the Pirelli Stadium, before they travel to Lincoln City on Saturday.

City: Logan; Sesay (James 64), Bolger, Parkes, Kennedy; Dodoo (Futacs 64), Jones (Cain 46 (King 64)), Byrne, Larrauri (Panayiotou 46), Hopper, Blythe (Beckford 64).

Beckford is not on the transfer list (at least notyet anyway). Beckford was ill and hence played yesterday. Beckford is playing tonight also- to get him match fit. Np said so and also stated that he was recovering when the Hinckley game was layef and it was s little too early to introduce him for that game along with SSL.

If anyone bothered to listen to Pearsons interview he did say that JB would feature in the York game and prob the game tonight as part of his recovery from illness. Some of the newer posters to this site are worse than 9/11 conspiracists.
