Narborough Road/Braunstone Gate crash

Recommended Posts

Just heard from my Dad that there has been a car/pedestrian crash near the new tesco so the junction between Narborough Road and Braunstone Gate which has involved two toddlers and two cars.

Just looking on BBC Leicester it has said one of the toddlers have tragically lost their lives in the incident, while the other is in critical condition.

Very sad to here about such news not far from where I live.

R.I.P to the little boy involved, so tragic.

I was on the bus and must of got there 2 mins after it happened. Absolutely tragic. I saw a pushchair on the road so thought it would be kids hurt. Didn't know one of them had died though :(

Obviously I hope no-one else were severely injured, and RIP for the poor lad.

But I hope the council see this as a chance to drastically improve the area/s, as these locations are an absolute tip.

Sorry, but what has the area got to do with it?

No doubt the new road layout around there may have been a contributing factor, as well as increased road usage due to the newly opened Tesco. RIP to the little boy, and hopefully the others injured make full recoveries.

Was house sitting for my brother today pretty much a minute away just off Hinckley Road. I definitely saw a red mini go past the window this morning, horrible to think it might be that one.

can anyone add further details? i take it the mini left the road as that has clearly hit more than just humans/pushchairs.

rip little fella i have a 1yo boy and 3yo girl and i think i would lose the plot if i lost either of them.

From looking at the news it looked more like the Mini had collided with the BMW and then the BMW had hit the crossing with the pedestrians.

Very sad news.

BBC reporting that the second child has died.

Awful. Felt irrational pangs of fear when I first heard about it as my boy gets pushed around in his buggy in that area. I don't want to be one of these sad twats that bangs on about 'you don't know what it's like if you've not got kids', having not that long had a child myself I must admit that to an extent that things like this resonate more than they did before

I walked across that junction every working day for 12 years, it's hard to get my head round

BBC reporting a second child has now died at the Infirmary following this accident. What a terrible tragedy. It is hard to image the pain and shock caused when something like this happens. The scary thing is the sheer randomness of it. I mean, you do all you can as a parent to protect babies from things like "cot death" and choking and all the other hazards but you never think that strolling down the pavement with them in the pushchair as being a risk. I guess you can't legislate for it. It's just pure bad luck of the worst and most cruel kind....

Further information from Sky News

Two children have died after they were involved in a car crash while sitting in their pushchairs.

The one-year-old boy and girl, two, had suffered serious injuries after a collision between a dark BMW, a red Mini Cooper and two pedestrians.

Both children were rushed to Leicester Royal Infirmary where the boy died on Monday afternoon and the girl died during the night.

The boy has been named as Oliwier Baczyk, of Leicester, who died yesterday afternoon and the girl has been named as Zofia Tabaka, also of Leicester who died during the night.

A 40-year-old woman and a man, 61, were arrested in connection with the incident, which happened at the junction of Narborough Road and Braunstone Gate in Leicester at 9.52am on Monday. Both were released on police bail.

The two pedestrians, both men aged 29 and 28, suffered minor injuries.

Detective Sergeant Mark Watling, of the force's serious collision investigation unit, said: "If anyone witnessed the incident or the events leading up to it and have not yet spoken to the police we would urge them to contact us."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Leicestershire Police on 101 or, alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Tragic.

From what I know (limited) 2 cars collided, one mounted the pavement at the crossing point and hit the 2 buggies. 1st child died quickly, mercifully. Para's tried CPR at scene. No result.
