jock2612 Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 I think the most important lesson learned form last night was that against a non-league team the defence was hopeless (Logan had some good moments) and again with ZW not playing and his injury record a loan/transfer at CB is vital,if not I fear it could wreck the good start we need!
LCFC FOX Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 We must storm the league now with Futacs shooting ability

marty78 Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 Clearly deliberate from our lad Futacs. Ha ha, yeah misdirection, he is a magician that bloke.
Dan Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 I was surprised when he came on at right back but was even more surprised by how well he played because when on loan at Bury they had him as a central midfielder and also thats the position he played for Ireland under 19s, I really think the kid has got some future. I'm so excited by some of the talent that is coming from our academy I don't think its unrealistic to say that there are at least 5 players that all in time could make the step up (Laurrari, Hopper, Panayiotou, Taft and Byrne). Things really do look bright for the future and the now in my opinion. If you'd gone to Loughborough you would think very differently. I mean maybe it was just an off-day but they looked awful even at that level, I'm aware it's probably a harsh basis but it was almost a reluctance to ever try and play football. Hope I'm wrong though and I'd love to see us bring through more players regularly.
tylesta Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 bloody hell just seen the picture special don't waggy look like a bloated maradona
TheUltimateWinner Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 We must storm the league now with Futacs shooting ability I keep looking at Futacs assist and saying, Thats got to be intentional... Surely? Please?
tylesta Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 If it was beckford that miss kicked it, we would have another 14 pages
Mark_w Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 If it was beckford that miss kicked it, we would have another 14 pages You've mentioned him, that means he's getting another 14 pages anyway.
Grewks Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 The one factor I like the most about the images/clips is the actions of Knockaert(?). He has just moved from to a country where he speaks relatively little of the language and has little to no help, yet it is clear with the beaming smile on his face that he feels welcomed. Obvious signs that a team spirit is starting to form, and to buy into that already is great signs for us as a club. Futacs also appears to be buying into this aswell, getting involved in celebrations. Togetherness and team spirit is more important than performances and results in pre-season, and it is nice to see some emotion from players already, rather than seeming to be kept 'on a leash' like last season.
Dan Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 It does sound like Waggy ain't the player he was? I werent there tonight but if Dan gives him a 4 I'll go with that. Really can't see him featuring much this season as things stand. Pleased for Beckford and Knocky does sound like he could keep Dyer out? The thing with waghorn is he never will have great technical ability, and what made him a good player before was his amazing work rate. Were not seeing so much of the work rate anymore so he is just looking awful. I agree with this, the work rate is nowhere near what it was IMO. I think it's easy to say that Beckford is miles better than Waghorn. I'm no fan of Beckford but he's a far better player, that's for sure. I actually think value for money Waghorn's been even worse than Beckford, he seems to get worse and worse. It's a shame because I really liked Waghorn when he was on loan but in classic Leicester style, it's like as soon as some moneys been chucked around for him he's immediately turned to shit. Like most things for us.
Mark_w Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 He just hasn't had a chance, under Pearson, be it at Leicester or Hull he has not done at all badly.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 We've got Knockaert and we'll go up again and you're never gonna keep us down
MGLCFC Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 He just hasn't had a chance, under Pearson, be it at Leicester or Hull he has not done at all badly. The league Waghorn played in when he first signed is nowhere near the standard of this year's Championship Our team at the end of that campaign was Weale, Morrison, Brown, Hobbs, Berner, Oakley, King, Wellens, Dyer, Fryatt, Howard subs Logan, Waghorn, N'Guessen, Adams, Dickov, Gradel, ONeill Who would you swap from that team, from our current likely 1st Eleven and subs - for me no one Schmeichel, De Leat, Morgan, St Ledger, Konchesky, Marshall, Drinkwater, Danns, Knockaert, Nugent, Beckford Subs Logan, Whitbread, Moore, James, Dyer, Futacs, Vardy. This also omits Wellens, King, Gallagher, Kennedy, Schlupp and Waghorn + any other signings. This is the problem - this squad is far stronger, but may only finish top half of the league. Waghorn is from a team that was decent 2 years ago, but he has regressed.

The difference is that we were a proper team then on and off the field, last year we were not. I think if we've got that right then you can put Waghorn in and he'll perform just as well as he did that season. The quality of the defences that Waggy would be facing in the Championship really hasn't improved significantly.

I've heard some excuses for the failure of this group of players but that is something new I'll give you that.
marty78 Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 If I had a pound for every time someone said the "Championship is tougher this year". I have heard it pretty much every one of the last twenty years whether we are in it or not. It is always tough, every year.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 Futacs miskick and lazy speculative backheel from Beckford that luckily went in................
fleckneymike Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 If I had a pound for every time someone said the "Championship is tougher this year". I have heard it pretty much every one of the last twenty years whether we are in it or not. It is always tough, every year. You'd have £20? Always baffled by the way 'old' football suddenly becomes rubbish. That Pearson squad over achieved thanks to uber organisation and momentum from their league 1 campaign. I also think Oakley's contribution in that season gets over looked as he is less prone to the flashy pass. Still fondly recall the way he dragged us to a win at Hereford in division 1.
MGLCFC Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 I can't believe that people don't see the Championship as being stronger 3 years on. Why? Just like any sport, football has improved, players training techniques, physical strength and speed are all improving in the modern game. However, there are two main reasons why the Championship is stronger - more teams are getting financial backing - when Mandaric took over at Leicester we thought all our Christmas' had come at once with his millions. When he left his wealth wasn't really that great compared to other owners in the Championship. These rich owners are growing and will continue to do so and will invest in better players. The Premier League is being infiltrated with more and more overseas players meaning that many decent Premier League players are having to move to the Championship to get regular footaball. Man for man our squad looks much stronger than 3 years ago, in reality it may not achieve any more. There are better quality players playing in the Championship than there were 3 years ago.

But I'm not saying we are going to fail (I suggested we may only finish top half, we have every chance of top 6 if we gel)- I'm suggesting the quality of the league is better than 3 years ago, yet Waghorn has regressed so he is unlikely to have the same impact as 3 years ago.

Well if it has improved so have the players and clubs so relatively is probably not that much in it. Especially for us with a massive outlay over the last couple of years. We've played lots of seasons in this league over the years and not found it easy too often.

Yes it is relative - the point I was trying to make if you read back a few quotes was in relation to Martyn Waghorn. The standard has generally improved, but Waghorn IMO has gone backwards, so therefore will not make the same impact as he did 3 years ago.

He is certainly below where he was a few years ago but is still young enough to pull it round. Big questions marks against him are fair enough but we could give one more year as a first team back up, with maybe a cup match or two before we give up on him. Another poor year would be his last I would imagine and we could always loan him out mid-season is he still looks way off pace.
morris1234 Posted 8 August 2012 Posted 8 August 2012 Not sure why people are getting on waghorns back? He's been on loan , had to return the area etc , had an uncertain future under Sven and a serious injury. I don't think there'd be a single player out there who would hit the ground running straight away can we not keep finding somebody to have a go at please? He's proved before what he can do and as much as some say it's no excuse...if he hadn't done it then you'd be whinging that he's never proved himself for us before anyway so he can't win. He's at the club, if he's good enough, fit, and suits the system the management will play on the day then waghorn will play. Get behind him not on his back
