Nuneaton Away

Beckford is going to play a big part this season, it's nice to have some competition upfront.

Vardy, Nugent, Beckford, Futacs, Schlupp.

Nice options that all offer something different.

Anybody who went tonight give some brief player ratings?

Just seen the pictures and Futacs is an absolute tank!

I also have a feeling that Waggy could be on his way...

Well well well, Futacs & Beckford up front and they both score. Hate to say I told you so about that partnership and I know it's only Nuneaton but......

.....but.....but it's only a friendly against Nuneaton.

Interestingly, (to me alone, I fear), I thought Futacs and Nugent looked like they were going well in first half at Shrewsbury until Futacs took a knock. Maybe he just is the sort that our other more 'attack-minded' forwards will enjoy playing alongside ?

Player ratings;

Logan - 6. Dealt with most things well but seemed to be all over the place for their goal and was easily rounded.

Sesay - 6. Didn't think he was bad in fairness.

Bolger - 4. Weak link of the team. Mistake after mistake but got better the longer it went on to be fair.

Parkes - 6. Thought he was better than Bolger.

Kennedy - 6. Not too bad.

Drinkwater - 7. His ball retention should not be under-rated, he very rarely gives it away, got an assist too.

Danns - 6. Started well but seemed to go missing.

Knockaert - 8. MOTM for me. He's going to be some player if he can produce this kind of stuff against decent opposition, not scared to take people on, full of tricks, keeps the ball well most of the time, has a cracking touch and something which is rare of a player like him - his work rate's phenomenal, I hope he's this energetic all the time because he really was everywhere, 8 bordering on 9, lovely assist too.

Waghorn - 4. He needs to be sold. I literally cannot remember the last time he didn't look out of his depth. Cut our losses and forget it I'm afraid, one of the least technically gifted players I've ever seen.

Beckford - 7. Quiet game but scored twice, fair play, that's his job, I was convinced his second was offside.

Futacs - 6. Scored but wasn't majorly impressed, ended up running onto hoofed balls from the defence most of the time though.

Subs;

Panayiotou - N/A

Byrne - N/A

Taft - 7. Thought he looked good tonight, looked shit at Loughborough yesterday but played at left back today and looked far better.

I agree, missed a few minutes of the Shrewsbury match but from what I saw Futacs actually looked pretty good, nice first touch and looked willing to get involved as well (Not just a 'big lump' as some have described him), think he could do a good job for us.

I did indeed.

I'm trying not to get carried away at it's only a friendly against Nuneaton but it's safe to say if he can reproduce that kind of display regularly in the league then we'll do very well to still have him by February.

It was a very poor first half. Against a decent outfit we could've been out of the game at half time.

Bolger was very poor first half but he did improve, Parkes was certainly the better of the centre backs. Danns and Drinkwater seem to work quite well together. Waghorn offered very little and so did Futacs to be fair, even though he scored. Got caught offside a hell of a lot too.

Beckford seemed to be playin quite wide for most of the game, but scored once he moved central. Two good finishes, a composed first from a good through ba and a cheeky back heel which came out of nowhere.

Knockaert looked eager, worked hard and isn't afraid to get stuck in. He's going to be an asset for us and already looks to be settling in well.

Shane Byrne and George Taft didn't look out of place when they came on.

One key thing is that the team spirit looks very good. Overall, a decent workout for some key players.

Did Futacs look fit ? My slight anxiety about him is that he looked quite a way off where everyone else is at, although in fairness, he's probably never going to cover the most km during a game !??

I think one player that has really flown under the radar in our youngsters is Shane Byrne when he came on tonight I thought he played well and I know that they rated him at Bury when he was on loan there. He seems to be one of the youngsters that we've got that never gets a mention; taft, hopper, panayiotou, laurrari etc all get talked about but this kid looks really composed and technically sound for somebody of his age and I wouldn't be surprised if he goes on loan to a higher standard of football and really tears it up this season.

What position is he?

He played at right back. But I'm not sure his position. Look very composed though, got stuck in and helped attack.

Usually plays in central midfield. But did a good job at rb.

I was surprised when he came on at right back but was even more surprised by how well he played because when on loan at Bury they had him as a central midfielder and also thats the position he played for Ireland under 19s, I really think the kid has got some future. I'm so excited by some of the talent that is coming from our academy I don't think its unrealistic to say that there are at least 5 players that all in time could make the step up (Laurrari, Hopper, Panayiotou, Taft and Byrne). Things really do look bright for the future and the now in my opinion.

It does sound like Waggy ain't the player he was?

I werent there tonight but if Dan gives him a 4 I'll go with that.

Really can't see him featuring much this season as things stand.

Pleased for Beckford and Knocky does sound like he could keep Dyer out?

I think Dyer would make a great impact sub. Could tear worn out defences down with his pace.

Did we really pay 3 million for waghorn lol. Isn't that about the same as beckford. His confidence has just been knocked completely. He was obviously disheartened at Sunderland letting him go and I get the impression he hasn't really settled in Leicester. Send him on loan to Hartlepool to partner Howard up front in the north east !

The thing with waghorn is he never will have great technical ability, and what made him a good player before was his amazing work rate. Were not seeing so much of the work rate anymore so he is just looking awful.
