Torquay v Leicester City - League Cup Match Thread

Well no, the match vs Cardiff City where Gallagher scored twice (one a fúcking sublime free kick) was followed by the comment from PeterboroFox that is in my sig, that "scoring goals means nothing" if you don't play well to go with it. And assuming neither of you are there and are just going off commentary, Marshall has been completely ineffective bar his free kick. Yet Marshall deserves tremendous praise for his superb free kick and Gallagher gets "yeah but he didn't win a header from one of Kasper's goal kicks".

Don't want to make this a Gallagher thread, just saying it's more evidence that no matter what he does, people just seem to dislike Gally for some reason, as when Marshall does the exact same thing he becomes a hero, and Gallagher gets stick.

Leicester fans are fickle, they're bored of Gallagher because he has been here for a few years now (See, Wellens, Dyer, Waghorn, King) so now there is every justification for booing him before he even steps foot on the pitch, nothing he does well can now be praised and anything he does wrong he is slated for from now on.

lol Do you get any warning points first or is it just a straight ban? :o:sweating::) (and for how long)?

Completely ineffective in an attacking sense I'm sure they meant, but that's not what Gally usually gets moaned at about. It's the other side of his game that lets him down shirking challenges etc.

Wrong, Marshall has so much more to his game. Went into a challenge tonight that I'd rather he didn't and was limping for a bit after hopefully he's ok :/

I'm not saying that, that may be true, but from the radio stream that both have listened to, he has been "ineffective" and "not involved in large parts". If Gallagher had that said about him there would be people sitting in their living rooms booing their radios, good free kick or not. Yet now it's said about Marshall they're probably jumping from sofa to sofa swinging their scarves shouting la la la la la la la Ben Marshall.

Scoreline is great.

Been listening on the radio and if there is one thing that still worries me a little it's that it SOUNDS like we are finding it difficult to keep the ball up top?

This isn't a problem against Torquay cos they sound not very good, but it will be in the league, especially away from home.

This was a major problem last season, the front two giving the ball away when we really needed just to keep it. I hope we are better at that this this season.

Fair point, but again from the radio how can anyone know if Marshall's been tracking back etc.

My point is that had Gallagher scored a free kick and been called "not involved" or something similar, there would be a lot of people saying he's not worth a place in the team just to score free kicks etc.

Anyway, like I said somehow I've managed to turn this into a Gallagher thread even though he's not playing lol.

Back to Torquay, que sera sera etc etc. :scarf:

Gallagher is a good player when we are in control of a game but when we are playing away to the likes of Millwall and Bristol City he isn't very effective likewise Wellens as well. Marshall is a winger that is why he is better than Gallagher it is pretty obvious, because that is his position he understands when to track back for example and offers more in terms of delivery from set pieces particularly corners. If Gally was deployed in the whole behind the strikers he may well fair better.

Depends on what was said and if there was provocation etc. More often than not a warning and then a short ban of 24 hours to reflect if it carries on. The more points you rack up the longer the bans will get.

We all flip now and again, I'm no saint and have had warnings myself, but his response to a valid point was OTT.

Marshall is just better than Gally. In a sort of way that Messi is better than Elvis Hammond.

But Elvis is better?

Well IMO I do think he is better, because he simply has more experience and is solid in Midfield especially if he plays like he did towards the end of last season... You seem to think James is better after watching him play one game fcking idiot.

Soooo... James is still shit?

Gerrin there! Pleased for James as a few had decided he wasn't worthy of the City shirt - regardless of the fact he'd never even worn the thing in a competitive match.
