Not sure about anyone else, but I thought the atmosphere was an improvement today.

Singing wise it was crap, but there was that buzz in the air.

That must have been one hell of a curry if it kept you busy for a few hours! :o:whistle:

Mrs M makes a very decent curry, comed from living in foreign parts so we had to learn to make our own. Back in the eighties we lived in Sydney, we had to drive 973 kilometers for a good curry, Gaylords in Melbourne........ :o

Takes a while to compose his list of negatives.

Can't all have your rapier wit, Babs, some of us like to think for a moment before opening our mouths......

Anyway the only real negative in our performance today was the reluctance of either our back 4 or our central midfield pairing to get really involved during a tedious first half...... :(

Second half we were much better, though the early goal helped a lot......

Quite impressed by Vardey and Drinkwater in particular thou there were other solid performances...... :)

Failed to contest the midfield? There was nothing to contest, they passed it around their first third and just kicked the ball out of touch every 3 minutes. Ball retention up top and support needed to be better first half, not a contesting issue at all for me. James and DD were comfortably on anyone of their players bothering to actually pass the ball into midfield.

That's better, at least your second part of the report points to a few positives. We did win after all.

Edit: bloody iPhone.

Be at least another 3 tomorrow

Strangely our home made efforts are remarkably easy on the stomach (and parts further south).

fresh ingredients seem to be the key......

Fair enough, but I thought neither of our central players got forward quickly enough to support our attacking players and with Dyer and Marshall operating on the periphery our front men got nothing like the service and support they needed....... :dunno:

I'm a big advocate of having our central midfield pair sitting in front of the back 4 and dictating play, but our whole 'back 6' were way too deep first half.

Might be NFP's conservative style or new players coming to terms with their roles, time will tell....

I think we a) showed a lack of experience in midfield and lacked a leader to show the kids what to do and b) we missed a Danns or King type player from the start who will support the forwards.

Still I think the team needs time to gain an understanding and when they do I think we will have a very good team and chance this season indeed.

Three points from the first game, no goals conceded and two goals towards the 85 or so we're going to need....yes, an encouraging start and with a whole lot of incidental pluses to be thankful for.

But, for all that, Pearson continues to leave me well short of excited. We killed off Posh rather like a giant python might - by slowly squeezing the life out of them. It was clinical rather than rousing.

But we actually killed off posh, which is a improvement on last year in these types of games.

Probably mentioned somewhere else in this thread, but I thought Knockaert looked good, he has a lot of potential. Every club needs a out and out winger who will run at players, he also exciting to watch and runs around a lot!

Dyer looked more threatening today, and neither had any end product.

Hopefully he can be the difference against some of the bus parkers

Let me just start by saying I'm not knocking the lad, however there is a difference between running at players and running past them, the majority of the time he was muscled off the ball and had to turn back on himself. His tricks are great to watch and it's nice to have a player like that, but I'm not sure if he's the kind of player Pearson would want on just yet if we're not sure of a win. He's an exciting young prospect who has a lot to deliver to this team, he can also deliver a decent ball, but he really did no more than what Dyer gave to the team.

Yesterday was the curtain raiser, a lovely hot day and we were playing against one of the weakest teams in the league.

Knocky looked good. Let's see what he can do next week away in Lancashire.

He didn't really have enough time to make an impact, but I thought he did ok. I noticed he was always wanted the ball.

I think the big positive for me is there are players on the bench this year that can change games and add something different, particularly when Futacs is fit as well. Knockaert is a bit raw at the moment, but when he settles in he'll be very good. Against better opposition last week (Sunderland), those who doubt he can beat defenders obviously didn't attend.

Very impressed that Nige finally dispensed with his old guard to start the game - perhaps a penny has dropped somewhere?

In the pockets of the new guard?

I actually noted that almost the entire first eleven were Pearson signings. Schmeichel, Konchesky and Beckford the odd ones out. He likes his own men, that's why quality players like Nugent and Danns find themselves benched, but it's not necessarily the worst thing in the world.

I thought the most positive signs were the variety in attack, the purposeful forward passing and the clean sheet.

Just the 1 point out of 6 last season.
