Cringeworthy headline: "Big spending Foxes defeat Posh"

http://www.theposh.c...est-319556.aspx

We've spent next to nothing this summer, but looks like we can't get rid of that tag from last year. Oh well...

We have probably made money with the players we have sold....

We have spent a lot more than most, add to that signings last Jan, think of our pre-Thai seasons in the championship when did we ever spend around 6 million, even taking into account the sales that is still a net spend of about 4 million, yes we've cut the wage bill, but we are still big spenders in this division and especially compared to posh, why do you think we are up there with the favourites for this division, we have spent the most, we have not over paid for anyone, I don't think, and we have not thrown silly money around, but we have still, comparatively spent a lot.

Just got back from the game, Shite first half more to do with Posh's negative tactics and we found it difficult to get the ball off them, second half we were very much in control and created opportunities thought Beckford did alright won the ball a couple of times, Vardy when he was closer to him the opportunities came to fruition. More to come in terms of performances but to get a win and clean sheet their isn't too much you can ask for.

Got back a bit ago.

Not looked at other comments, but the first half was poor and very frustrating, we pressured them well enough and forced them into many mistakes, but we needed to get hold of the ball more but we just couldn't, the midfield didn't dominate, even though James looked impressive.

Second half we played really well, went up about five levels. Everyone looked good, De Laet looked far better than he did in the first half, Drinkwater, James and King won balls in midfield and passed it better, Marshall looked more dangerous and Vardy looked sharper.

Good performance today, not the best in the first half improvements needed, but second half if we keep playing like that im fairly confident about our chances this season, but of course it's early days.

Got the game plan spot on today, sat back and let the Posh defence have it first half and pressured when the ball moved past the halfway line, then just upped it in the second. After Morgan's goal it was nice to see us push on and try to score more, that just didn't happen last season. We were a bit complacent after our second and they got through a couple of times, but overall it was a very good performance, Moore was extremely solid at CB and Drinkwater ran the midfield from the 40th minute onwards. He's put on a bit of muscle, got on the ball and dictated play, clearly pre-season has had a great effect on him.

Absolute peach by King.

Good that. Knocky is my new favourite player ever n Vardy was quality. King's goal was class.

Happy days.

According to one paper i read, we were the biggest spenders. That said, most of the league spent hardly anything and we did recoup over half of it.

All true, but regardless of who we sign or sell, we've players on contracts big enough to make them chose us over Premier League clubs

Mixed performance, good scoreline! Some good stuff out there today, some not so good stuff...mainly in the first half. Can't complain too much though as the scoreline makes nice reading. Beckford and James were not really in the game for me. Dyers composure in front of goal was shocking. Vardy played well, did great for the goal. Good to see Andy King back on the scoresheet too! I would probably start King/Danns, Nugent and Knockaert next match though.

Beckford really did well today if people in the past have complained about his work ethic it was very much spot on today, for me Vardy and Beckford should be starting every game they are gelling well and when they click the goals will come. Second point is Dyer why is he starting yes I appreciate he can run at pace but end product is never forthcoming with him if Knockaert isn't starting ahead of him at Charlton away it would be a waste of his talent Dyer's days are long gone as a starter on the bench is his place imo.

Fabulous start. Let's not get carried away, but let's enjoy that there were so many positive elements to that performance. We're not going to become a top team overnight, it will take work. But I feel genuinely encouraged by that performance. I think I want to have Knockaert's babies ... first two 'engagements' are a cute dink over the full-back and a crunching, sliding tackle. Loving the attitude of the man.

Great performance, even when Peterborough were trying to ruin the game we pressed and made things difficult for them. Second half we bossed it. A very high tempo energetic performance and hopefully a lot more to come.

Scrappy first half. Peterborough just didn't want to do anything with their possession, it just went side to side and back to the keeper.

The game was much improved in the second half. Beckford had a good game and looked interested. He tracked back, charged down and got himself in to some good positions. I was a little unsure on Moore as I thought he got caught out of position a couple of times, but he did however, come in with a few cracking tackles and interceptions at vital points.

Wes, well what can I say - plainly a foul for the goal but hey, hey many did we have go against us last season? Another solid performance from our new captain - vast improvement on our former captain - naming no names....

I think we linked up well and spread the ball nicely, if I have a criticism then it would have to be, sometimes and only sometimes we seemed to switch off and allow Peterborough to get in to a few dangerous positions and threaten our goal, though thankfully to their totally inept shooting, Kasper had very little to do - minus a very good save.

On a side note, was it me or did L1 seem louder? I stand in L1 and it seemed a tad noisier than I remembered last season - what do you Kopites think?

P.S. Bless that poor little Posh fan chirping to the family stand..... :giggle:

It's about balance, you have to pick the best team, that compliments each other.

I think it's mainly for the hard work & tracking back, helps the midfield duo out more than two 'flair' wingers might do.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking best players on paper make the best team.

Although I heard Knockaert tracked back & weighed in... So you never know

Peterborough were woeful! I can't believe that we will see many poorer sides down Filbert way in this seasons championship.

I thought that LCFC soaked up any of their attempts and I can recall KS making 1 good stop in the second half. That said in the first half they seemed to have more possesion than LCFC and thats pretty unacceptable IMO. I guess that words were said at half time by NP & we seemed to find more composure on the ball and expose their overall lack of quality all over the pitch. We found some success on the wings which was pleasing to see early on in the season.

The first goal was a good cross & header, nice for us to be scoring the set peices & not conceding them :)

The second goal was good play but the first time finish was unstopable & worth the entry fee.

For the other championship clubs to see our options coming off the bench is scary & clubs such as Posh will look at our bench as an example of LCFC's riches & see how a 2v0 result is a realistic result that we should expect, but not result that will come easily & the work rate needs to be upped on a consistant basis. Hopefully NP will use the strength of the squad as a tool against complacency within our squad which I believe has dogged us in the past few seasons.

All in all a good result, no complaints, & I'm encouraged for sure, but I hope this is just the first step in a string of good results.

Perhaps too critical but that first half was as bad as some of the stuff from last season. Matt James looked shaky but better second half before being brought off. Second half was much better. Good goal by king nice work by vardy to set it up. Beckford must be shattered cos he didnt stop today.

Thought he had a good game...

Really enjoyed today's game, and it's a long time since I've said that!

As soon as I heard the team news, I was pleased. I was happy that Gallagher wasn't in the squad, and I was pleased Pearson didn't select King (although King did do ok, and scored a terrific goal when he came on). All the new signings looked good, and I was impressed with Moore. In particular, and in terms of new signings only, I was pleased with De Laet, Matty James (who I thought was excellent) and Vardy. Vardy is a typical former non-league player; always trying and chasing balls.

I hope this match is a good sign of things to come (which I know it will be). We looked like a unit, good at the back, we looked together and as a team, we were consistent throughout the 90minutes, every player tried and every player got stuck in. I haven't seen this since the last time Pearson was in charge.

I cannot fault a single player today. Excellent. I'm not going to Charlton, but I'm going to Blackburn next week, and already looking forward to it.

Was impressed by Vardy, wasn't afraid to get stuck in nor to challenge for a header. Good turn of pace and didn't look out of his depth, though I guess we have to wait and see what he's like against a better defence.

NP said on the radio that apparently James was quite unwell before the game and did well to make an hour.

Just saw the highlights on SSN and King's was a superb finish, I doubt many others at the club could've put that one away. Arriving late, side foot into the top corner
